NFL 2012 Week 2 Thread

Sadly I forgot about this thread until now, so I missed my chance of going a perfect 0-9 through two weeks.

I didn't see the Chiefs game, but I'm not surprised they tanked. I can't believe some pundits picked them to make the Super Bowl. Nice backs and some talented players, but a mediocre at best QB and maybe the worst coaching staff in the league (at least at the top). Here's Mo Carthon's playbook from his time with the Browns. The fact that it's on the internet probably didn't help the results today:

Damn does Chris Palmer know the Titans offenese playbook is online?

Man, send out a search party for Legion. No posts on this thread in over 24 hours. This place is the Bermuda Triangle for OPs!

I dont know if it's just because I live in NYC but a lot of people are talking about what the Bucs did as the Giants were taking a knee with 4 seconds left in the game. I don't think it was right to risk player injury for a jackpots chance that there would be a fumble. I never seen Caughlin flip out like that to another coach. He is usually pretty respectful.

They're talking about it in Houston this morning. Matt Schaub (Texans QB) is on the radio Monday mornings and they asked him if that was a violation of an unwritten rule and he said yes.

I think Dan said it all.

I'm clearly a huge Bucs fan, and even I think Schiano's a giant douchebag for instructing his team to hit a QB on the final kneeldown of a game. I don't care if it means you have an infinitesimal chance of winning if you do so; it's a crappy move, and he should be ashamed of himself.

Maybe he's still waiting for Gabbert to complete a pass before posting. See you next week, Legion!

Yeah, that was absurd. As a former lineman I winced imagining the possible injuries of even the line. Ankles, knees, etc.

My other 2 cents for the week - The replacement refs are so-so, but they're really terrible ate keeping control of a game. I thought the Philly / Baltimore game was going to the into a brawl.

Yesterday was the first game I really saw Trent Richardson, he looked pretty good. He had some moves kind of like Adrian Peterson, more powerful but not quite as shifty. I was impressed, I think he'll be great as long as he doesn't get injured.

Another young running back that has looked good is Dwyer in Pittsburgh. He just bowls people over, like a bigger younger Bettis. If he doesn't get too fat I think he'll be good too.

For replacement refs yeah they are letting players get away with a ton of stuff. The games have been much more physical as players have figured it out. They are also very imprecise, the calls and ball placements are sloppy. They also never explain anything, like on challenges they just say the play stands or the play is overturned without explaining why, kind of annoying. I don't think they are doing a very good job and I think as each week goes on the players are learning they can get away with a lot more.

I'm in favor of a big raise for the "real" refs and getting them back ASAP.

Speaking of running backs, Ben Tate had a hell of a good game yesterday. He's been in Arian Foster's shadow, but he could easily be the starting back for this team, or any team.

Yeah both Tate and Foster had a huge game yesterday. Part of me thought about picking up Tate to protect my Foster investment in fantasy, but yesterday you could have played them at RB1 and RB2 and been awesome.

I said in the top post that I'd be traveling this week and would miss Sunday's games. I haven't seen a football game this week yet.

From the ESPN notifications to my phone, I think I'm OK over missing the Jag-Texans game

Titans and Jags will battle it out this year to see who can be the worst team in the NFL.

Nah. I guarantee by the end of the season, other teams will be far more hapless than those two.

Miami and Cleveland come to mind.

The Titans and Jaguars have the Colts in their division, which will help keep things--and I use this term incredibly loosely--"competitive". In related news, the Texans have already won the division, right?

I'm still tired from travel, I'm just not ready to deal with the Guy Whimper situation yet.

Holy crap, that's Golden Tate.

I love to hate the Cowgirls!

Someone on Twitter did joke that Houston was the first team in history to clench their division after week two. I assumed it was an exaggeration.

C'mon, Legion, you can't be more tired than this guy.

Well, they still have a ways to go to clinch, but I can safely speak for the rest of the AFC South when I say we're all quite clenched.

Chris Palmer is such a f*cking joke. If the Titans don't get rid of him soon I may have to find another team.

Also, Locker is not ready...sure the O line is terrible and his pass protection has been garbage but when he does have time to pass he throws high. He's going to get someone killed like he almost got Nate Washington. I think he's a great kid and probably a stand up guy, but in the NFL you have to have accuracy. I really hope he can turn it around when he actually has some pass blocking and a run game but I'm not feeling good about it right now.

Speaking of the O line, yes it's f*cking terrible with a capital T. They can't run block or pass block, BUT there is so excuse for Chris Johnson to be running the way he is. He could fall forward every play and get more yards than he's getting. For whatever reason he's scared to death to run between the tackles anymore. The year he got 2000 yards he was running between the tackles on most plays. He would usually get 2,3,4 yards a play but you always knew the big one was coming. I noticed it really picked up after Hermidinger left so I don't know if it's the blocking scheme or what but there's still no excuse.

The Titan's front office are also morons. You let Finnigan leave because you don't want to pay him, but then you turn around and give Michael Griffin the worst safety in the NFL a contract? WTF. I don't miss the constant flags from Finnigan, but I turn on the highlights and see he already has two picks so yeah there's that.

Angsty Gumbie is way more fun than Smack Talk Gumbie. I hope your chosen team always sucks purely for this.

Hypnotic in how completely f*cking awful that hit was? If that guy doesn't get a suspension for that, then the NFL is full of sh*t when it comes to getting rid of bad hits.

lol did they actually just say that coaches have been asked by the NFL to control how they deal with these replacement refs?

heres an idea.... dont have replacement refs. sigh.

Jesus, these refs are the only ones in America that didn't know that ball was tipped. Freaking pay the real refs, Goodell.

Why? Guy is running along, another guy blocks him from the front in his chest standing on his feet. He did not launch himself, it was not a defenseless player, it was not helmet to helmet, it was not a block in the back. What is the problem with this play? I thought it was a good physical block and the Cowboy player should have been paying more attention.

Now the refs have no control.

The NFL needs to deal tomorrow, and get this sh*t fixed for Sunday.
