Planetside 2 Catch-All

I wish if you bought the Alpha Pack promo, it would go away from the loading screen. Argh!

Also, I cant believe it's already been 4 years since I made this thread. Where has the time gone?!

If you are planning on spending some cash on this game (but maybe not the full $40 for the Alpha Squad) there is currently a deal going on. If you buy a Station Cash card from EBGames or Gamestop and redeem it by September 16th, you'll get double the Station Cash amount.

So for $10 less ($30) you would get 6000 station cash vs the Alpha Squad's 4000 for $40. But you'd miss out on the camo, 12 guns, and XP boost. And title stuff. For $5 more than Alpha, you'd have 9000 station cash.

I bought it mostly for the 6 month 10% XP boost. Thats a pretty big deal.

If we knew what pricing was for stuff, you might be able to figure out if you could match that via purchases with station cash to get the XP boost. Like in Tribes.

The game was pretty solid last night. At lot less lag and no hitching that I noticed. I did see a "tweak guide" on the PS2 site that might help people still having trouble. I'll link it below. One of the things I notice is that they advocated deleting or renaming your "UserOptions" file every time there is a significant patch.

This is a VERY different game when you're playing as a group. With the recent changes squads are going to need medics and engineers now more than ever. The sheer rush of attacking as a group and trying to keep everyone alive it is pretty awesome. It seems to me from the changes they're making (ie removing terminals) they're trying to force people to play as a group. Whether it's a successful strategy remains to be seen but it does seem to me like the devs really are listening to player input.

PS: I also noticed a rather lengthy discussion on the forums about improving IFF and making the game more user friendly for colorblind players.

I think the MAX changes suck.

Sometimes when I play this game I just get wowed. I was attack a small outpost deep in enemy terrirtory when I look up and see this massive wave of blue. I'm talking at least six galaxies with a 2-3 escorts each. I was damn lucky they ignored me. But man was it pretty to watch.

I made a ton of certificate points. I just realized that you get a certification point for every capture and defend. I wound up defending this one base over a dozen times in a short moment. Got myself C4. Although c4 seems pretty weak.

Really fun today.

It is weak.. useless against tanks unless you get two right in the rear of a lightning. Good for MAX killing, one C4 kills a MAX. That is about it.

I won't mind the changes if the game allowed me to change the layout of the gear. If I am going to be an ammo monkey on the engie I want to get rid of the turrent. Is there any way to do that now?

Get rid of the turret? Why? Hit 5, hit B, and instead of making a turret, the ACE will make an ammo pack. Switching back and forth, an engineer can always make a turret and drop an ammo pack, while carrying C4 or a spawn beacon or a prox/antitank mine in place of the default ammo pack on 4.

I am getting the sh*t kicked out of me when I've got someone on my tail in my Scythe, which happens a lot since there is no radar.
I'm a decent pilot in videogames and now that I'm more used to the controls I can fly through canyons and under natural bridges and around the edge of a biosphere without hitting anything.
Having to continuously move my mouse means I just can't make a sustained roll-then-pitch-up turn.
The afterburner doesn't usually help me outrun them.
I would slow down to try to make a tighter turn but somehow they're fire is so damn accurate I get torn to shreds in just a few seconds.
Aiming for me is still a freaking nightmare.

Flying in a Liberator is awesome. I think the Lightning is actually my favorite vehicle, it's super fast and the explosions are very impressive even if they don't do much. I can drive and aim when going in reverse but it is so stupid that the controls reverse direction when gong in reverse.

Yeah any advice for pilots would be great. I try to fly a scythe and I generally get owned all the time. I can't really shake people and the gun feels weak. I can't kill anything with the default gun, it feels like it can't shoot down anything. Any tips would be great.

One time though I found a weakened galaxy loaded to bare, that was awesome. I think i need the missiles or something.

I figured you would have to change the layout on the weapons terminal to do that. Thank you for the tip.

May be a dumb question, but did you turn the vehicle sensitivity up? Once I did that turning has been so much easier.

After looking around for some tips I found this:

Seems like I need to change how I control the plane better. I don't rotate the mouse enough, and probable should increase my sensitivity even more.

Also found this, more for beginners but it's usefull.

I had no idea that there was a "Free Look Mode" for the Liberator?? Is that still in the game and if so, how do you use it?

I didn't know that about the Prowler being able to go into siege mode.

Any vehicle you use the middle mouse to free look.

There is a great interview on PC gamer:
PlanetSide 2 beta: Galaxy spawns to be nerfed and other “things we’ve learned in beta”

I hope you didn't get too attached to your characters!

Per RadarX:

In order to progress Beta testing, during our update later this week all character data including names will be wiped. Please keep in mind this will not be the final wipe in the testing process.

We also have exciting news! All available servers will be been given new names which will feel more appropriate for the PlanetSide universe.

Stay tuned for more information this week.

Nooooooo all my certs. Well not surprised really certs is something that probable has to change a lot still. Perhaps we should change fraction? If it is gonna reset multiple times we might as well try all three. Plus NC get better in game music then Vanu...

master0 wrote:

I'm partial to 5/8th's myself.

Screw That! Vanu 2/3rds all the way!

master0 wrote:

This would be a good time to do it. I have no qualms about changing over to NC or TR for the beta... I want to see what a 40% pop NC zerg feels like from the giving end.

Sign me up. If we are gonna try another faction, my vote is NC.

So that makes 3/5 NC. Although I will say the Vanu seemed like they could generally hold there own regardless of pop. Now the TR, well they're just everyone's whipping boy. Plus the default sniper and scythe weapon is too damn weak.

I wouldn't mind trying another faction. I hope the certs get cheaper.

I was thinking TR next. I've fought so many NC and those damn Reavers are annoying and I wish to down more of them.
Also, their tank has a siege mode which sounds kinda awesome.
Still, Lightning is my fav.
Also can't wait to see how totally ineffective it is to attach a weapon to a Flash.

I have seen some funny sh*t in this game.
There's an armor column of two TR tanks and one TR Lightning climbing up toward a base,
I'm in the rocks beside the path and walk out with my rocket launcher and nail one, damaging it.
All of a sudden, plane wreckage falls from the sky, lands on a tank, and blows it up!
I stay out of cover so I can watch this and do die for it, but it was worth it.

Last time I played, we have Allatum and I decide, what the heck, let's go through the teleporter that takes me to the enemy owned objective!
In front of me are no less than three NC MAX's, two Engie turrets, and half a dozen assorted foot soldiers. Literal LOL.

Nope, ain't gonna happen.
Least of the reasons is that they wish to enforce teamwork and have decided that limiting your role and specializing is the best way.
More importantly, microtransactions.

Dear Lord, I never played Halo but heard it's awesome so I'm just assuming.

I pray that you should get Halo, Section 8, Dust 514, and Planetside 2 in the same room and get them drunk so that they have crazy sex and produce a baby Sci-Fi FPS so that that baby will have
Halo's smoothness of gameplay,
Section 8's feeling of power, (and sniper rifle and jetpacks and lock-on system, and well, everything)
Dust 514's intrigue, (and forge gun, and multi-missile launcher, and proposed Commander gameplay)
and Planetside 2's scale and teamwork,
and when that baby's growing up you feed it a bottle full of
motha-f*ckin' beam cannons, space sim combat, and giant-ass spider tanks,
so that it grows up purdy and strong.
If you do I think I shall love it forever and ever.

I have attached a weapon to a flash, the machine gun, and it is basically useless. I have scored one kill with it I suppose. Still it makes loud noise which is fun when your traveling long distance. I want the flash to carry two people that be nice.

As for the certs right now I think there are two issues with them. One you don't seem to get the points offline like your supposed to (or I don't). Two playing defensively will earn you way more cert points then offensivly.

Example. Three hours going out and capping stuff about 8-10 points.
1 hour defending a point that is constantly under attack letting you recapture it easily. 8 points.

Of course now they are changing this. Cap times and influence are changing. Cap times seem like they are going to be much longer, especially without influence. Back capping deep behind enemies lines is going to take much longer now. Of course they also said they want to roll out hacking soon which should affect all this I think.

Yeah guys really want to change? I guess since it's only for the beta what the hell.

Also, since I got the Alpha Squad and I was already in the beta I have a beta key to give out to any non coffee grinder/office linebacker. Send a PM
