FTL

It's always been Tomorrow, Tomorrow.

So close! I'm all ready to buy direct. From what little I know if a developer offers a Steam code, that code has been bought and paid for already. Valve doesn't generate them on demand. Direct is always the best way to give the developers the best cut of the sale anyhow.

According to the website direct and GoG sales open at 7am EST. That's 4 in the morning for me. Valve opens a little later at 11 EST.

Holy crap. If I had known it came out at 7 I would have gone to bed before now so I could get up early. Night guys!

Had some stuff keeping me awake so I decided to wait. Just bought direct and redeemed my Steam key a few seconds ago, downloading now.

EDIT: aaand done! It works!

Bought direct (used Amazon payment option (don't have pay-pal)), cost $9 *\o/* .

Stuck @ work. Locked registries and all that .

$9 at GOG. I dunno, if I were a Kickstarter backer, I'd be quite annoyed that I paid more for it than the actual selling price. People who give you money before your game is even finished are super-special customers, and they should get better pricing.

Not sure, they got it at the price the game eventually released at. This is just a one week special price. Paying early guaranteed that price regardless. I am in the Planetary Annihilation Kick Starter - 20$ but if it sells for less ultimately I won't be concerned - i've paid the price I feel is right for supporting the game.

Any impressions, i've purchased the game but have 3 hours before I get home

Yeah, give me my dollar back! I'm so mad I could spit!

People who give you money to make your game are sponsors or patrons, not customers. They can take satisfaction that they helped get the game made in the first place, and were able to enjoy early access to the game via the beta, but Kickstarter isn't a store, and backers are not customers, even if they feel like they are.

I paid for the kickstarter and got a code for Steam and GOG.com, so I received two copies for $10, no complaints here!

Aaand here goes my Friday productivity.

Were those in the same email? I got my Steam code last week, but I don't recall getting the GOG code.

I just checked my email and saw another kickstarter update post.

Backers and the $10 and above levels can also redeem your DRM free builds for Windows, Mac and Linux. Use the this link and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter account. You will then receive an email with a unique link containing your downloads, the previously given Steam key and your new GOG.com key.

The email that you get from that contains a link to humblebundle.com where you can either download it directly, or click to get Steam and GOG product keys.

Hey guys, if I may pimp a little bit, my review of the game is live:

Thanks!

Looks like this is $9 on Humble Bundle or GOG DRM free. At least the Humble site seems to also give you a Steam key, not sure about GOG.

Has the Humble Bundle site started just straight up selling games individually like a store before, or is this new?

Purchased through Humble Bundle for $9.00 this morning.

Loaded up my steam key, started the game, choose easy mode, jumped to the first system, hailed the planet with distress signal, was promptly attacked by a Hostile, boarded by 3 attackers who systematically tore my ship apart and killed crew. Dead within 2 minutes of launching the game.

Now that's a Rogue-like!

A couple of things:
1. Space bar = pause (can still issue orders)
2. Gang up on intruders
3. See #1
4. Rotate injured dudes to sick bay
5. See #1
6. Did I mention you can pause the game with space bar?

Yeah, even on 'Easy', this is not an easy game. I got to the fifth sector on my third try, unlocking an Engi ship, but then died after my first hop. My little peashooter just didn't cut the mustard anymore. I managed to kill off the intruders, but the ship was too damaged to fight effectively anymore, and eventually got vaporized.

In a way, it reminds me a bit of the Hamster Space Program-type games, where by losing repeatedly, you unlock what you need to actually win.

I'm very fond of it. After a couple of hours, it seems just about as good as the thread had led me to believe. LOTS of depth.

Sounds pretty similar to Binding of Isaac, except with fewer naked filthy children crying in dark corners. Well, at least until you unlock the Event Horizon ship.

I've made it to the end boss twice now and I have only one gripe about the game.

The interface gives you an option to automate the firing of weapons. But its an all or nothing deal, you can't individually select which weapons are automated. Some weapons are designed to be spammed like EMP guns, they have super short recharges in the region of 5 seconds. But if I turn automation on I can't stop the game from also spamming all my missile weapons and wasting limited ammo.

That's true, but you can discretely stop the firing sequence on a given weapon (don't remember what the in-game terminology for this is -- disarm? I don't mean deactivate). So if I have autofire on, my missile weapon has just fired, and it is charging to fire again at a designated target, if I press the hotkey or click the weapon to arm, and instead of choosing a new target I simply right-click, the weapon will be disarmed. It will still draw power and continue to charge, but it will not fire automatically.

Awesome idea! Powerful ship that happens to also drive your crew insane and murder them.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of typing that out.

Steam key thing working for people who bought it off the FTL web site? I purchased, got a link in the e-mail to the Humble Bundle site that offers the direct download link, but clicking the "click here for Steam key" jobbie doesn't do anything (appears to be a hyperlink to the same page I'm already at).

Is it possible to sell missiles at a shop? If I had known how to offload my 20+ missiles I may have beat the game I got the farthest on (ran out of scrap to repair my ship and buy drones.)

Nope! I think we're not sure whether it's an interface-streamlining decision, or an intentional choice to make your builds more brittle, but you can't sell missiles, fuel, or drone parts at stores. .

Just launched for the first time. No idea what I'm doing...

Yonder wrote:

Not at a shop. Sometimes you will come across a ship willing to buy missiles or drone parts off of you, but you can't count on those. I usually want to be able to use missiles by the 6th sector, since so many ships have pretty heavy shielding at that point.

You can't sell missiles at shops. There are however random events where you can sell a certain amount of fuel/missles/drone parts.
