So Long, My Wii — Now Playing: ?

That was the other part I forgot to mention about Trauma Team: it gets challenging, but it's nowhere near what I've heard Trauma Center is like.

And House of the Dead Overkill was one I would have really enjoyed except the last scene in the game really kinda tainted the whole experience to that point.

Really? I thought it was a pretty hilarious punchline.

Not my style of humor, I guess.

I'll second this. The overall difficulty for "normal" is noticeably lower than the past games. Once you beat the game you unlock a higher difficulty which is more in tune with the rest of the franchise.

Also it's a great co-op game and they put some effort into making co-op a team effort unlike First Blood. Plus, it gave Demyx and I some great in-jokes for when I had to go into surgery for a broken ankle a few months after we finished the game.

So a bit of an unexpected development.

I'm afraid my Wii might be developing some hardware issues. It's only come up a few times, but once with Rayman Origins and a couple times with the Metroid Prime Trilogy it's seemed to have trouble reading from the disc. Rayman just flat wouldn't load, and Metroid Prime 2 loaded the game but the doors wouldn't open when you shot them, meaning the next area wasn't loading. It's hard to tell if the drive is making weird noises when it spins up since the drive is always somewhat noisy.

Anyone else had hardware issues with the Wii's disc drive? Is this a common thing? I'd hate for my last, most beloved console to die on me.

"I want a Wii U" does not count as "hardware issues."

No disc drive issues with my launch Wii. Only some green artifacting in Goldeneye 007 (multiple single pixels across the screen) and Skyward Sword in the area's with the time shift crystals / one of the related bosses.

I've used my Wii mostly as a Gamecube (and Virtual Console machine), but I've not had any issues (knock on wood). There are Wii failure rates, but they're very low, especially compared to the pre-slim 360's

I've had issues here and there. Game doesn't load and comes up with a load failed screen. Have to pull the plug on the Wii because it won't power off. A couple of other weird things, maybe it was SSBB? that would make some loud clicking while loading.

But I think most of those issues were when I first got it and used to run it horizontal. Since I moved a couple years ago and got a bigger TV stand and been running it vertically I can't remember any problems.

Oh wow, this is what I do at work - diagnoses problems on Wiis and fix them. Just from what it sounds like, it's the disc drive. Are you using it lying down or vertical?

Awesome! Vertical.

I've had my Wii for 3 years. It died this weekend. I'm very sad.

Still playing Skyward Sword and thought the first dungeon was so slow. I'm have more fun doing dumb stuff like chopping signs like in samurai movies.

I just got my LG rawdump compatible drive and successfully dumped Skyward Sword! I'm getting back my disc of Murumasa from my old roommate today which I will proceed to rip. I still need to get a wireless bar and bluetooth adapter, but after that I'll be set. It'll be nice to play Murumasa upscaled to 1080p and with a 360 controller.

My Wii is still up and running, but I've barely played anything the last few weeks. My personal life has been super busy, so poor Samus Aran has been stuck just about to the spider ball for what seems like ages now.

Although as much as I'm loving Metroid Prime 2, I don't know if I'll hang on to the trilogy collection when I'm done. I can't really see myself replaying Prime or Prime 3, especially with so many other games to play. What's the going non-ripoff rate for it? Anyone know?

It's called you mother f*cker I'll buy that sh*t off you because I can't find it anywhere under sixty or seventy bucks.

Though I also haven't searched lately.

But yes, I'll buy the sh*t out of your Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Hey Dom, so, like, the Wii U comes out soon. What can you do for me?

If Dom is taking care of ccesarano, does that mean that I can buy your Metroid collection, Clocky?

We don't get the Wii U early, or at any significant discount. Actually, my discount really only covers tax.

Awwwww yeah. I dumped Murumasa today and fired it up. I got my 360 controller all set up, and it is awesome. This is such a great game. I did some crazy upressing and antialiasing, so it looks pretty decent for a Wii game. There are a few goofy looking things, and in spots like the anvil section it slows down to 30 or so fps, but for the most part it runs at 60 fps and looks great.

I'm still waiting on my monoprice purchase of a wireless sensor bar and bluetooth dongle to show up before I can play Skyward Sword. The bundle only cost me about 5 bucks. Anyways, screenshots!

Ooooh, I just picked up an external LG BluRay player. I wonder if that can rip Wii games... I completely forgot about that.

Muramasa natively played on the Wii on a 48" screen looks gorgeous enough for any platform, period.

Oh fine you guys. Spoil all of my fun. at the very least, I didn't have to buy a Wii and clutter up my living room.

Personally, I'm extremely excited for the Vita version with extra content. This game will be perfect on that system and on the go.

Oh, I was just quoting ccesarano ironically. But it is pretty much the best looking Wii game bar none. Even I wasn't complaining about aliasing all over the place. The 2d art was just that well done and already had some AA applied (I think).

Yeah, I'll bet it looks especially great on a Plasma. It looked pretty darn great with the Wii on my 40" LCD.

People play games on LCD TVs?
