Games Soundtrack Appreciation / Discussion Thread

I just got the latest Humble Bundle, including the Machinarium, Botanicula, and Samarost 2 soundtracks. Them's some tasty tunes!

Let's not forget the entire 7th Guest / 11th Hour soundtrack

Hehe, I played it yesterday in the turntable.fm room.

Edit: I'm back in the room again if anyone is interested...

If you're looking at older games, you really need to know about Turrican II

Going through with the bulk player today and I have to say this track is frikken cool.

Dyni: I love that music! It's always stuck in my head! I was thinking about posting it then got distracted and forgot.

Latrine: That Actrasier symphony is pretty sweet. Wish it was longer though.

kyrieee: I used to blast that UT music when I was in HS. Loved it.

Indeed. Currently listening to them at work! Actually going to fire up Botanicula this week I think.

This song makes me happy and it has a wee bit of a Pikmin vibe (or the songs I've heard from SSB Brawl) I think.

The gameplay and music remind me a lot of Ilomilo, which reminds me that I still need to complete that game as well.

I think CastleVania SOTN had one of the best game soundtracks of all time and it was one of the first game soundtracks that I actually bought. It really has a wide breath of music types. Here are some of my favorites:

Wanted to add a few more:
Rock out with F Zero X

I admittedly haven't played this series at all, but as far as theme songs go this one is a classic

EDIT:

And here's the goofy music video put together by the devs

I haven't heard any of the Ilomilo music, but that Botanicula track is as close to a direct copy as possible of the vibe of Jonsi's solo album.

If you guys haven't seen this before, it's kind of the video game music motherload:

More Unreal Tournament love. I miss playing this game... We played this in our college computer lab WITH 3 of our professors. So much fun.

Thanks, Gravey, those Ilomilo tracks are adorable.

I never got into Machinarium (I know, let the hatred commence :p) so I wasn't that interested in Botanicula when I saw it was the same devs. But I have to say, that one track has me at least a little interested again.

One of my favourite soundtracks in recent years, up there with Bastion. According to the Youtube commentary (and thus taken with a grain of salt) the second track was a joke, made to sound like a cheap 90s dance song, and of course everyone loves it.

Haha, really?

Yeah, of course it sounds like a cheap dance song. But it's a good cheap dance song.

Oh man, how hasn't [Baba Yetu] been posted yet?

Good question. Thank you for correcting that error.

Game wasn't great, but still one of my favorite soundtracks...

Woah, that is good. After the reviews for Alone in the Dark 5 it wasn't something I had any interest in playing, but it seems I may have to look up the soundtrack.

How many excellent soundtracks got buried in terrible games I will never play?

Alternate Reality: The City. Theme starts at 37 seconds.

Alternate Reality: The Dungeon.

And Ultima 3 had good music but I only know the Atari version of the music and it seems the only rips online are of the Amiga/Apple/C64 versions.

Closing credits to Homeworld:

FYI the current Humble Botanicula Bundle just added extra cds of music from both the Botanicula artist and the Machinarium artist. If you already purchased this go download the added files.

Awesome. I think I listened to each of those soundtracks at least once a day this week.

Whoa! That was cool of them. Zorya, by Floex (Tomas Dvorak of Machinarium's soundtrack), is incredibly good. Botanicula maps and art books are there too! The music I don't have is HU by DVA. They even have a FLAC version! They also added the Amanita Designs experimental music project/game Osada.

This is my favorite piece on Zorya:

Sonic was always a big part of my Video Game Music heritage...

Sonic 3 Credits music:

Marble Garden:

Launch Base:

Sky Chase:

Scrap Brain:

Labyrinth:

Mystic Cave:

My favorite Green Hill Zone Cover:

And my preferred version of To Zanarkand:

I loved the music that played while you sailed in Wind Waker. I felt like I was on a freaking mission.

Since some folks also really liked Jeremy Soule's Morrowind soundtrack, I would point out that you may have overlooked his Guild Wars soundtrack, which was pretty awesome.

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, Epic games is making freely available a collection of 20 tracks from their games over the years.

They can be found here. There are some very good songs here, a few of which I've actually posted in this very thread.

Enjoy.

Don't know if it's worthy of this thread, but I had this track on loop for good couple of hours.

Trials Evolution - Midnight Ride

I wish Tribes Ascend music was this good:

My kid and I played some deBlob 2 over the weekend on a whim. I thought, "What a fun soundtrack this has." I started looking and found that it's freely available for download. I don't know if there are multiple locations to get it, but Gamespot has the entire OST as a single download. The only catch is that you have to login to their site (free) to get it.

Definitely not your traditional OST, but a fun listen especially at the price.

+1. Currently going for platinum trophy with the game (it's quite easy to do).

The full Double Dragon Zero soundtrack is available for free. Jake Kaufman is the badass who composed it and made it available. It is, how shall I say, epic.

Oh, cool!

DD Neon you mean?

And wow that is awesome. Makes me want to fire up the NES and play this new soundtrack instead.

It's actually not free exactly. It's pay what you want. I'll probably buy it for 5 bucks when I get home from work. Rockin the stream still at work. The music varies quite a bit, and all of it is awesome.
