MechWarrior: Online - Catch all

But that would mean interfacing with *gasp* pubbies!

Actually the "pubbies" are generally considered to be the people who aren't using the TeamSpeak server and just queue up randomly. The only way to play is with a group in the TeamSpeak server. The C3 might be nice, but right now everyone is still using TeamSpeak to form up groups.

I'm often found on there as "MechGorilla". Some of you may know me from SWTOR as Gut'wif.

Hey Gut!

I'm still ranalin in MWO as well.

Got my beta invite last night, looking forward.

Just FYI, they dropped the "can't say you're in the beta" part of the NDA, because all the founders have beta access, and have their special badges on the official forum.

I'm totally in the beta that I wasn't in before.

I haven't played in awhile, though. Kind of weird, I gorged on the game for a week, paid $30 for the low end package, then haven't touched it. So many games.

Another note: I think they extended the Founders package availability. Surprise, they still want your money.

Major difference is if you end up losing a lot you'll end up using some trial mechs instead of your intended. The repair costs are CRAZY!

If you are making an MMO, I never understood why you would have it in the NDA to not say you are in it. Also, I have never gotten flack for breaching that aspect of an NDA on a MMO Beta. Bring on the Acronyms!

Anyhow, I parked KingGorilla as my name. should be up and running tonight.

Query. Do I need a stick to play this?

Yeah, the repair costs I think got added the week after I wandered off from the game. Keep meaning to go back, but with Armored Kill, Borderlands, Planetside, Blacklight, etc, I just haven't.

Now I'm also in the Alpha 2 on Hawken, whenever that starts.

I've been taking a break from it anyway to give them time to iron out the kinks but... That does not bode well for my future with the game. I can see that getting really frustrating really fast.

Sounds like they're trying to follow what I've read about World of Tanks' model.

I'll add you to my list tonight (knight templar). I don't use a stick. I think mouse and keyboard are fine.

Yeah, they are taking real money for MC now. I did one quick battle last night with my Founder's Atlas. I earned like 77,000 C-Bills (unfortunately I had to leave the battle to put my son to bed and probably screwed the whole team in the process...bad timing). I was able to repair but not fully re-arm. At least I got to brutalize another Atlas with my AC-20.

Also, don't forget if you plan to major modifications to mechs you buy, you can sell out the parts you won't be using for cash.

The other night i was in a match and won 2 million credits and had 3 million banked. We won the match and i survived, but between rearming and repairs i was left with 700k credits.

double post

I don't know if they changed it recently, but if you don't fix your "modules" they will often get fixed in the game. It is the modules that cost a lot. So, don't "auto-repair". When you go to repair, untick the item that costs 2mil+ to fix, and you're golden. Your structure is fixed--which is all you need. Dismiss the nag screen when starting a new game, and you'll see you're no worse off.

They haven't implemented analog devices yet. I just tried and forum post confirmed it. I tried mouse control and it just didn't work for me so I gave up and uninstalled.

Just happened to check my spam mailbox today and looks like I got sent an invite yesterday. Might be the thing I need to break my DayZ addiction.

Got in as well. I'll have to wait and play with some of you folks since I have no idea what I'm doing

I didn't either. But it's not that bad.

Most important thing: Stay with the pack. Preferably behind the biggest mech.

And use the arrow keys along with Ctrl to set up your weapons group so that you don't fire them all at once and over heat.

So it is tickling some of the old feelings. I have a question. Is this going to be a somewhat less than massive online shooter that I will pay a fee for? I was rather hoping to see the Batletech MMO I have dreamt of in secret hoping none of you bullies would kick sand in my face while I read Thoreau.

It successfully makes me fee like I am playing MW Mercs, chunky movement, tank controls, overheating like a menopausal granny in the Florida sun. Just not sure if I want to pay more than 50 bucks to relive that.

Getting dangerously into review territory. It is just I do not know the youth of this build.

So I am in the beta because they screwed up and sent me an invite by mistake but to make up for it allowed me in the beta anyways:) Haven't had a chance to play yet though.

This isn't an MMO. It's going to have different game modes with probably more mechs on the field at once, but it's still skirmish battles.

The "pay" part I assume will be to buy currency to spend in the game, buy faster XP earn, buy mechs, cosmetics, etc. Maybe custom servers, but they haven't mentioned that. Most of that stuff will be doable for free, but with a lot more grind.

I think they're trying to follow the successful model of the World of Tanks. Which honestly didn't interest me that much. But I had enough fun that I threw $30 at them anyway, and I'll see how it goes.

I'm really still more excited about Hawken. It seems more action, less depth. But then I'm not coming from a huge background in the tabletop or PC background of mechwarrior (I think I played Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries, and that was it.).

Sorry to all the new folks but if it was possible with the new changes just put in place i'd love to get my money back.

I'm quickly losing my calm and about to just say 'f*ck it'. Frustrating because this was becoming a lot of fun. Right now i'm hoping they'll change their minds again since this is still beta.

If you got in please put your name into the spreadsheet in the OP.

One note I found interesting in the lastest Beta update:

Combat Score:
• New Combat Score system rewards C-Bills to players for specific actions.
• Win 100,000
• Loss 75,000
• Tie 87,500
• Capture Win 5,000
• Capture Assist 2,500
• Team Kill -15,000
• Component Destruction 500
• Kill 2,000
• Assist 2,000
• Spot Assist 2,000
• Damage Done 10X Total Damage Done

Spotting counts as much as a kill. I like that.

Ya this set of changes will bring me back to playing some.

One of the last couple of updates made it to where the game would crash out after I logged in. I tried a lot of stuff from the forum to fix it, but nothing worked. I was down to needing to do a complete reinstall/registry dive. Looking around in my files and error messages, I think something happened to actually delete some content files the game needed for assets.

I'm hoping this patch fixes me, otherwise I guess I'll need to uninstall. Right now, it seems the servers are still down.

Mannish, something similar happened to me. By any chance, did you mess around with config files?

Anyhow, subsequent patches didn't help me, until I did a complete and total uninstall/wipe. Then reinstall fresh after a patch came out. That and only that fixed it for me.

But I do have a nagging suspicion that it was a user config file that was causing me issues.

MoonDragon wrote:

Nope. And doing all the config file changes/deletions/etc that they recommended didn't do a thing for my problem, as the error messages clearly point to assets that don't exist any more in my install.

This install did seem to have some dialog about fixing corruption, so we'll see if the servers ever come up.

I have been playing quite a bit the last week or so. Looks like they brought the econ a bit more into line with yesterday's update. I sent out some invites to ranalin and Mannish (wasn't sure on everybody else's name, add me Kamakazi010654).

The new modules thing looks like it could be cool, have to see what all they roll out as modules though. Interesting way of doing the RPG elements of your "pilot".
