Borderlands 2 Catch-All

And if the enemies that are being attacked by the Thoughtlocked enemy do not attack it

But if they do, Thoughtlock is great. Another will turn into an ally, and another, and another, and no one ever attacks you until it wears off.

This is what I'm thinking for my support Siren but it feels weird not maxing out any trees.

I don't think that Thoughtlock has a 100% success rate though. But yea I agree that it negates the usefulness of the other one a bit.

What makes you say that? I don't see anything in the description implying that, not to mention that would make Thoughtlock, a top-tier skill, even less useful than it already is (negating Sub-Sequence).

On the other hand, if you focus fire on the controlled enemy and let it tank for you it'll take damage from both enemies and from you and die faster... and then jump to another enemy, and repeat. Hard to say until we see it in action.

Good point, which makes me wonder if Sub-Sequence's transfer aspect is limited to transferring only once per Phase/Thoughtlock duration or if it will keep transferring to enemy after enemy until the Phase/Thoughtlock duration expires. For example, if your Phase/Thoughtlock duration is 10 seconds and the original Thoughtlocked enemy is killed after 3 seconds, it transfers to enemy #2. If enemy #2 is killed after 3 seconds, that's 6 seconds used of your Thoughtlock's 10-second duration. If Thoughtlock only transfers once, you've wasted 40% of its duration by attacking the Thoughtlocked enemies, unless it can be transferred more than once.

Indeed, but it's fun to theorycraft.

By the way, here are my builds for 3 of the classes, excluding the assassin, which I'm not interested in.

Not quite. The amount of points to unlock the next tier of abilities is cumulative for the entire tree. So if you put enough points into your abilities higher up on the tree, you'll still unlock Thoughtlock.

Looking at Maya's Motion skill tree, the last skill, Thoughtlock, transforms her action skill, Phaselock. Instead of locking down the enemy so it can't attack or move, using Phaselock causes the enemy to attack other enemies. In order to get Thoughtlock, you must put 5 points into Sub-Sequence, which does the following:

When an enemy dies under the effects of Phaselock, there is a chance for your Phaselock to seek out and affect another target.

This got me thinking. If you Thoughtlock an enemy, you want it to stay alive for as long as possible to maximize the benefit of it attacking other enemies, so you won't be attacking the Thoughtlocked enemy. And if the enemies that are being attacked by the Thoughtlocked enemy do not attack it, then there is a good chance that the Thoughtlocked enemy will not die before the effect wears off. In that case, Thoughtlock essentially negates Sub-Sequence, which you have to spend 5 points on in order to get access to Thoughtlock.

Conclusion: I expect very few players to use Thoughtlock.

I don't follow.

I read it working like this.

1. thoughtlock applied
2. opponent starts attacking his mates
3. opponent is killed
4. sub-sequence causes thought lock to grab next opponent
5. 2nd toughtlocked opponent starts attacking mates.

I didn't see anything that said that they would not shoot back when their mate turns upon them. Did I miss something?

I stand corrected. I still think Sub-Sequence is a must-have skill, regardless of whether you get Thoughtlock or not.

To avoid retyping lots of words, see my reply to Hypatian in my previous post (2 posts above yours).

tl;dr - we don't yet know enough to say one way or the other.

Yeah I think thoughtlock will only effect one enemy at a time. And once and enemy is thoughtlocked I think the obvious tactic is to attack the other targets. So I see saving thoughtlock for the tougher lieutenants with minions like say the bruisers or the giant flaming guys with axes and watch them create havoc in the enemy ranks as you take potshots at them. If anything, it will make taking down tougher opponents cake.

Doesn't the siren also have a skill that heals allies if you shoot them? Hmm....

I don't really see myself taking the healing bullet skill. I play solo too much.

I really hope (and doubt) that Steam makes this available for pre-load. Servers suck so bad on big launch days.

On a related note, does anybody know if Green Man Gaming sends codes early so you can preload?

Depends on when they get them. Some games they've had them early, other games they've screwed up keys so that not everyone gets one immediately.

I just consider that a potential part of getting such big discounts.

Greenman Gaming refuses to take my money. I've tried multiple cards and I'm getting very annoyed. Is anyone looking to unload a copy from a 4 pack?

Probably your card company. They tend to be nervous about foreign stores.

I had to call mine to get them to approve it the first time I bought from them. Since it's been fine. So you might call your bank and ask why they're not getting approved.

Why would be there be any doubt? Borderlands 2 is the most pre-ordered game ever. That's so cool for Gearbox. It's always nice to see great things appreciated.

Just realized I was never in the GWJ Borderlands 1 group, so I'm not prepared for 2! Please throw me an invite.

Done.

From my limited experience (because I don't buy a lot of big games day one) Steam is inconsistent at offering preloads for games. I've had to wait and been unable to play games on day one before due to this deficit. I could be wrong- it could just be my experience- but for that reason I am not confident that this will be available for preload.

Ok, I understand your delusion, but it's still illogical.

Agreed, I got delayed mid post and forgot to check before sending it on the way. Is what I get for posting from work.

My bad.

6 more days !!!

Regarding the Thoughtlock/Sub-Sequence question: Pretty sure that Thoughtlock will move if the target is killed and it's still active. The most recent Weekend Confirmed had the writer for BL2 on as a guest, and he mentioned some mechanic that sounded vaguely like what you guys are asking about when he was playing debug versions.

Can I get an invite to the Steam group please?

Argh! Work just informed me that I have to be out of town for 3 days starting next Monday evening!!!

See, thats how little I use the Steam! I need to hang out with you guys more

Anyone know of the best pre-order deal? Amazon is like $6 cheaper than normal, and I'm just looking for a digital download. Also, if I buy from Amazon, can I load that in through Steam or is it a separate thing?

Green Man Gaming with the 25% off coupon. It's on their site.

It will activate on Steam no matter where you get it from.
