one-handed gaming

You Don't Know Jack only uses the 360 face buttons to buzz in and that game is a riot (even single player). You also use the trigger to "screw" other players, but I never used that much even with two hands.

I'll Nth that. I think YDKJ would be right up your alley, humor-wise.

Which hand do you have that works? Any other details about movement limitations that would help us narrow it down? Are you sticking with RPG's like beep, or do you want advice on other genres?

Left hand works. I hurt middle finger of right hand, but I have to be careful of all digits on the right. I tried holding a 360 pad with both hands, but the right was uncomfortable. I tried various positions in order to use buttons and trigger.

Games in which joystick and button/trigger presses are in discrete phases would be ideal. That way I can use left hand most of the time.

I will be like this for at least another week; I already had a week without gaming because of it. any genres welcome. The issue has coincided with a desire to play games with random/ procedurally maps with a mix of classes, abilities and exaggerated physics.

So a turn based/interruptable DiabloTorch with the Euphoria engine would be ideal. (Ahem.)

When my youngest was a baby, I'd sit in a recliner with her nestled in one arm, while my other played Carcassonne. That was a very comfortable experience for me, as it's basically left stick to move around, 2 face buttons for confirm / back, and one trigger to rotate tiles, if I recall correctly. Turn-based, so no need to worry about running out of time.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to buy spelunky. I played it one-handed for a bit, then figured out a caw hold that allows for a bit of two handed play. I will probably flit between the two.

This may be tough to track down, but WarioWare Twisted on my gbasp was the absolute best use of my free hand when I'd banish myself to the back porch for a cigarette. All it used once the games started was the A button and the orientation & motion of the game boy. Hmmm... makes me wonder if anybody ever made a smartphone compatible rom. To the internet!

So i am now also in the one-handed gaming position. Thank god for my ipad, but can anyone suggest some good one handed pc games? I feel like Civ 5 will work - any others?

Point and click adventure games. Machinarium, Botanicula, Gemini Rue, and so forth.

Zuma. It's on Facebook now, too. Not sure how I feel about it.

Civ works very well. Which hand can you still use -- mouse or ASDF? That makes a difference on suggested games.

Mmm. good call. I beat gemini rue (and loved it) but wasn't grabbed by machinarium. How do Syberia and Loom play one handed? I have both in my pile. How about Gabriel Knight 2? I ask because some adventure games use the keyboard for movement and stuff (grim fandango, dreamfall)

Syberia is P&C (that'd be point-and-click) but I don't remember about Loom; might use WASD.

If you loved Gemini Rue then you really owe it to yourself to pick up Wadget Eye's new one, Resonance. They also made the Blackwell series of games which I haven't played but have received middling to excellent reviews, depending on which game in the series you're looking at.

Then to Civ let me add Plants vs Zombies, Pixeljunk Eden, and Audiosurf. Point and clickers like Lume, Tiny Bang Story, or maybe Ben there, Dan that!

90% sure Loom uses just the mouse.

Botanicula was great and perfect for just a mouse hand.
