NFL 2012 Week 1 Thread

Collinsworth is such a dumbass.

"Expectations are sky high here in Denver now that they've beaten Pittsburgh"

Um... surely beating Pittsburgh in the playoffs last year was a bigger win than beating them in week 1 right?

It's like whatever happened yesterday is just completely forgotten about... the moment is all that matters. Like this is the biggest win ever for Denver or some nonsense.

For a min there I actually feel pretty bad for Tebow.

I'm a Steelers man, but there's no foolin': Peyton is still smart and ready to go; and freakin' Tracy Porter is for real. Porter and Bailey on the same secondary?

NFL football is back.

He meant Joe Montegna.

And there's the bad you take with the good with Troy Polamalu.

Over-aggressive strong safety = short hot-read throw turning into a 70 yard touchdown.

I've been down on him since late 2010. He's just not making many correct guesses anymore. He should probably stop doing that.

I just spent a few minutes screwing around with my new NFL Rewind subscription. No All-22 yet for yesterday's games, can't wait. Still, spent about ten minutes screwing around this morning rewatching bits of the game, just to be able to stare at the line play. Defensively, Gerald McCoy was even better than I thought; it's like Carolina didn't even have an offensive line. Offense? Carl Nicks was worth every penny. Wherever he wanted to move somebody, that's where they went. Tampa consistently ran behind him, and it was quite successfuly.

I want my All-22.

On Akers 63 yrd kick one of the Packers was dropped back in the endzone and I saw him jump to try to block the ball going through akin to goal tending of basketball. Is that even legal? I never heard of any rules on that.

I would think as long as you don't lift yourself on, or touch, the goal post in any way it should be legal? The problem is only a small % of kicks is going to be in that low range, just a foot or so above the bar, where someone could reach it.

Although I thought he was more trying to catch the ball for a return? Which is usually legal. But I guess not if the ball bounces off the crossbar first?

It's been done before by R.C. Owen (Colts and SF wide receiver) while he was a Colt. Of course this was back in the 60's but I don't think they changed/added any rules about it since I think he only did it in 1 game.

It wouldn't be any different from them blocking it at the line of scrimmage. But, I would assume he was there more as a punt returner like Stele said. I seem to recall somebody (Hester maybe) returning a missed field goal for a touchdown a few years ago.

HUUUUUUUUGE day for the Panthers.

By "huge," I mean "gift wrapping a game for the Bucs." Blech.

Foo. That wasn't a gift wrap game; Tampa kicked Carolina's butt fair and square. Tampa's d-line lived in Carolina's backfield (Gerald McCoy was a monster), Freeman was dink-and-dunk efficient, Martin got just enough yards when he needed to, and Ronde was just plain Ronde. Give us some credit, that was a solid, legitimate win.

Instead of using the phrase "gift wrap," I could have said "rolled over and played dead." Effect was the same.

And as for giving a divisional rival an ounce of credit, two words: Hell, and no.

OK, OK, Doug Martin looked really good, Josh Freeman looked really thin and the Bucs D took full advantage of a rookie left guard who played like a rookie. So ... a begrudging congrats.

When the ball touches the uprights, it is a dead ball. Happens on kickoffs semi-often.

The only exception is that the ball can continue traveling through the uprights on a placekick, so the ball is not blown dead until it comes back down to earth.

As a Broncos fan, it has been a rough few years. I am looking forward to a much more fun season...

By "a few years ago", I mean six years ago.

I remember that. The shot of Feely sitting on the ground, head hanging in dejection was quite memorable.
I'm a little biased but that has to be one of the greatest moments in football in the last decade.

I think the fake return that got called back was waaaaaay better.

The Ravens no huddle offense is looking good so far. Perhaps it'll get a little more tight in the future, but then again so will the game tape.

That TD catch by Boldin was pretty impressive.

Also that incomplete call on AJ Green was pretty terrible. Catches the ball, takes 3 steps, gets tackled, and the ball comes out when he hits the ground. Shouldn't even be a fumble, much less incomplete pass.

Dalton looks quick at reading blitzes. Wish Flacco was that quick, though he does have the better arm.

Exit: Ed Reed. It's crazy how he's always there to snag the ball.

Coolest kick I've ever seen.

David Akers... FROM LOUISVILLE!

Phil Dawson has the coolest kick I've seen. Low quality video, but here it is for anyone that's interested.

I didn't see much football thanks to being out of the house, so I'm downloading the Browns game now. With 8 INTs and a general meltdown on the Browns board I may just rewatch that kick instead.

So, like last year, when the Ravens crushed Pittsburg in their Week-1 matchup, Baltimore showed that they're the force of the AFC North. The only team in the division to win this week.

The Boldin TD hit the ground, it shouldn't have been a TD. Yeah the Green call was total crap. So was that roughing the passer call on Baltimore.

Oh god, Berman is announcing the second game? Not sure I can listen to this, especially after three hours of Gruden.

Fixed.

He did one of the Titan's preseason games and it was a f*cking train wreck.

Got called a td, not enough to overturn. Roughing the passer was definitely a bit iffy, but I'm all for killing the QB.

And yet, he's still not as terrible as Phil Simms

Hey, I'll not have you talking about a Fresno State alum that way.

Thanks for the bad memory Pants. I had completely forgotten about that and was perfectly happy with forgetting it

Hey, I'll not have you talking about a Fresno State alum that way.

He went on and on and on about his man love for Matt Hasselbeck and how he got really depressed and in a dark place a few years ago and Matt called him and told him to snap out of it.

It got really weird really fast.

I somehow missed this thread until now. I think the advent of college football may be to blame.

Anyway...Go Texans!
