Fitocracy Catch-All

Btw, here are the current standings on our latest challenge. There are two days to go:

Nicely done folks. I fell off the wagon for a while, but I look forward to the next challenge.

Wait. There's a Fitocracy app?

My plan had been to go hell-for-leather on Saturday, the closing day, with a monster bike ride. However, the weather gods are against me it would seem.

Still might put in a silly last-minute effort anyway. Maybe I see if I can't rinse out a ludicrous multi-hour swim instead.

Cod and Taer, if you find salt and pepper on your heels, that's just me seasoning them before I start nipping at them!

Time to put on my lutefisk socks!

The new design is yuck. That said, I need to log in more often to give everyone props. Logging in and seeing so many updates from GWJer's pleases me greatly.

Also, I think I might have accidentally signed up to the challenge but my bike needs an overhaul and I think swimming aerobically is silly (and I'm a navy vet).

I use the LG Tone HBS 700s. I love them. They sound great and have not died due to sweat, yet (I sweat a LOT and already killed a set of Motorolas and a set of rocketfish. They don't feel heavy and stay in your ears pretty well. I really like the neck band. Much more than I thought I would. I like them enough that when I thought I lost them I ordered a new pair from Amazon the next day before looking around the house very thoroughly. Now I have two.

I got a pair of these and I'm really liking them so far. The only issue I've had is they bounce a bit when I'm running, have you dealt with this at all?

The bouncing doesn't bother me. Mine don't bounce much at all. I have a thick neck, though, so it may not affect me as much as others. My biggest issue with it is when I do bench presses. It almost always falls down and pulls the phones out of my ear. I tuck it under my shirt for that. You may try that if you don't mind having it right next to your skin.

yeah I'll give that a try. It actually slightly bruised my collar bone

I suppose it IS time for a new sig.

Hah.

Hey, I'm getting ready to create the next challenge, with a window of at least a week, so that people have time to include themselves. I just want to poll, once again, for what people would like. I think the idea of weights-points was floated earlier. I just saw a 'how many pushups can you do' challenge. That might be fun.

Has everyone seen the menu of options?

No - where is it?

Hi all, pardon my jumping in. I'm a long-time lurker, not-quite-first-but-might-as-well-be poster here on the GwJ forums, but I'm very active on Fitocracy. Feel free to give me a follow over there!

I'd been putting this off, so I figured what the hell - let's just get something going. Apologies for the flakage.

I finally created a new challenge. It starts in 13 days, which ought to give everyone a chance to join in, especially as it's free for all. This means: anything goes. Just grab some points. They're like Mario Stars, only they don't jiggle quite so much.

Hey, cool. I need to be better about logging then as I've slacked on putting stuff in.

Depends on how you're earning them...

Man, I've not gotten back to Fitocracy in forever. I'm still working out when I can; but we had a series of weeks where either I was injured or Boy was home sick...and I dunno about y'all, but I cannot make it to the gym after a 14 hour day, I just can't. (Well, that and I can't see in the dark, so I don't drive at night.)

That said; I've been making it to the gym pretty regularly lately, but I keep forgetting to make time to track it or even log into Fitocracy. I promise, after this month of camps, travel, and houseful of 9 year old boys, I will get back to tracking stuff. I miss the feedback, and I'm always motivated when I see how hard y'all are working all the time.

I just joined the group and the challenge.

I wish my net access here in the suck was more reliable, I haven't been logging on fitocracy for the last six months and I'm sure I'd be at least double my current level if I had done so.

Now that the net is more solid, I'll log daily and I'm looking to take a top spot in this challenge!

Remember, you can work out in all kinds of places. I do stuff at home pretty regularly and also do no-equipment workouts at Taekwondo. Take a look at bodyrock.tv and alkavadlo.com. Al does a lot of stuff on the playground and I'm sure 9 year old boys besides mine like the play ground. I did a workout this weekend in our back yard using a swing set, trampoline, and a set of dumbbells. Pull-ups on the swing set, reverse pushups on the trampoline (a desk works as well), one-arm push-ups, standard push-ups, dumbbell squats, and dumbell stiff-legged dead lifts. I worked the same muscles I work when I have access to the gym. Just not as much weight. I did a circuit of those three times and then went jogging. Minus the jogging it took me about 20 minutes. Take out the play sword fighting with my kids and it only took about 15.

My problem at home is lack of routine. I do pretty well when I am working out over lunch at work. Now that we've started our summer hours and I only have 30 minutes for lunch (not enough time to workout and shower) I am much less consistent. I need to get into a routine (time of day) so I can get back to consistent workouts.

Similar problem here. Except the Texas heat is sapping my will. Need to start up in the mornings again, but I like my sleep.

I know that feeling - only time it's below 90 here is before 7am or when I'm underwater. I think I'm going to have to try & gear up to ride/run to work a few days each week.

Now when you calculate points, it gives you a little thinking robot splash box. To click accept, you have to hit the "I'm Awesome!" button.

It amused me.

I was awesome today!

Spoiler:

Right before I opened a big bottle of Anderson Valley Brewing Co.'s Brother David's Double Abbey Style Ale. *BURP!*

I have joined. Witness the fitness.

*Momentarily de-lurks.*

Just wanted to give a heads up that I've just joined the GWJ Fitocracy group (username: Streusel_Zero) in the hopes that having folks to measure up to might help motivate me. I'm not in the same league (or even sport, to overextend the metaphor) as it looks like everyone else is, and have never been what you would call "in shape." For what it's worth, I've never been hideously, grotesquely out of shape either, instead maintaining a steady state of "meh" to "bleargh" on the shirtless scale.

Anyway: the point! I'll be tagging along behind the power curve for a while, but encouragement, moral judgment and mockery as motivation techniques are more than welcome. Thanks for letting me be a part of the community!

*Goes back to lurking.*

You and me both, Chuckles. I'm tagging you as a target

Happy to be targeted. With an ounce of luck I can provide a little motivation, too :).

That all sounds awfully familiar

I've got a gym membership for the first time in ages, and have begun, slowly, my couch to 5k again. Last time I got more than a couple of weeks into it, a car ran me over and bunged up my knee

This time I'm also trying to add in squats & a little lifting.

Ouch, I remember you posting about that. My C25k takes place around a park where the only danger is one of the many Staffordshire Terriers being taken for a walk at that time of the morning.

Perhaps one of the esteemed adonissians in charge could set up some new challenges for us hideous examples of humanity to strive towards.

OK, it got bumped to the popular threads, I made the mistake of clicking, so I'm going to give this a go.

I'm not sure how this works, or even if it will work for me, but I have to get something going.

Between breaking both my arms, and buckling my spine in a MC accident 4 years ago and being on medication that 'promoted' appetite as a side effect for the last 18months - 2 years I've added 17kgs more to my frame than I wanted (or needed) to.

I'm not sure how much I can do in terms of heavy lifting given the structural damage (lost 3cm off my height from the bends in my spine and neck), but between this, the MyFitnessPal app for tracking intake, and linking in with the UbiSoft Your Fitness app (and actually doing something) I intend to have less of me around for the kids to enjoy.
