Changing the rules of the game after it's started. A classic Certis Dick Move. (grin).

This is a change in your favour I think. The $500 goal would definitely be reached. Shifting it from there to the $20,000 donation level makes it much harder I think.

Certis said "pair well with" not, "instead of just $500, you have to hope the community raises $20,000 as well". At least, I hope he's not saying the latter!

You are all jerks.

Honestly, Rabbit, I really view this as a chance to give some attention to a game and developers that have been largely ignored by mainstream media as being too niche. This will be a great ego booster to a crew of men and women that worked hard to bring the world a seemingly well polished game. I look forward to your in-depth analysis. It will be a nice change from the coverage of Assassin's Creed 3 and Guild Wars 2.

Count me in for $25, payable next Friday. :p

Oh if you asshats pull this off, I intend to take it very, very seriously.

I'm in for $25.

So has anyone given any thought to stretch goals for the Kickstarter?

Misleading as his handle may be, Rabbit is still a human being. Let's not be too monstrous.

What would make it extra worthwhile for me would be if Rabbit wrote the article very seriously, but prior to posting it, gave the community an intense, profanity-laden backhanding in an after-credits segment on an episode of GWJCC for putting him through such torture.

Hee hee. I'm all flu'd out, and confused! Where's the donate button? I'll throw dollars at this.

Edit: I'll throw $25 dollars, to be clear.

Grumpy, any updates?

So let me get this straight.

If we have yet to donate for the drive, we can donate here, and that gets Rabbit to write a ponies review, and we still get all the tiered rewards from the drive, or do we need to donate in the drive, then top it up here?

ie,
$5 in the donate thread, gets you your icon.
$25 in this thread towards the Rabbit $500.

$30 total, gets you the $25 reward from the donation drive 'Kickstart' rewards.

Or
$30 in this thread, gets you your icon, plus the tiered reward, from the donation drive thread?

Either way is fine.

Yes.

Yes.

I'm waiting for my bank account to be confirmed by Amazon. I suspect not much happens on the weekend. It's like this is a real business or something.
Once that is done, then the project will be reviewed by Kickstarter. There's definitely still a chance that they won't approve it. I don't think it's exactly within their usual model.
At least the tax paperwork is done. (Taxes? What have I gotten myself into? )

I'm sorry if the delay is sapping enthusiasm but this isn't a quick process. I've done everything I can do but now it's time to wait on everyone else.

Edit: Here's a preview link. It's still a work in progress, obviously, so at least there's a silver lining to the paperwork delays. Any suggestions for text improvements or anything else that will get it past the Kickstarter gatekeepers is more than welcome.

Love that $20 tier, I am so in this...

Thanks for the clarification too chief, appreciate what you're doing to pervert the course of pony justice in favour of a rabbit riding a ponycorn.

I would remove the reference in the last paragraph to PayPal. I would also put something in the beginning of the description letting people know what he will be doing. Include a link to the game and, if possible, a link to various reviews.

Good point. Thanks for the tips. At the moment, it's just a copy-and-paste of the OP of this thread. I definitely need to fix it up.

Nice work Grump! I would remove the reference in the last paragraph to PayPal. I would also put something in the beginning of the description letting people know what he will be doing. Include a link to the game and, if possible, a link to various reviews.

I know that once it goes live, I will be tweeting it and pimping it out heavily. If I ask nicely, I can probably get PirateCat to let me pimp it on ENWorld.

Edit to add:
Also, and I don't know if this would be acceptabe to our benevolant overlords, but perhaps an indication that any donation towards this also counts as a donation towards the GWJ Donation drive.

A thousand times yes. The purpose of Kickstarter has at last been realized!

If I had known there would a be $100 tier to name a sparkleponycorn I would have waited to donate to the drive.

Another thing for the Kickstarter page: links to samples of Rabbit's work. If you can get some features that he has written on games, that would be even better.

shoptroll wrote:

Unfortunately (and inexplicably), you cannot rename your sparkle ponies in the game. But this should be the first question Rabbit asks them in the interview.

The second? "How the hell you gonna make a Sparkle Pony game where you send your ponies off on quests and literally WATCH A TIMER COUNT DOWN?"

That would be trivial to do if some of those publications still existed

It works for Progress Quest doesn't it?

Boo! Guess I'll drop that tier for now. (Edit: Done.) I guess that's the point of having "a draft shared by Grumpicus for feedback" so yay! Feel free to suggest other incentives, though I'll have to run them by Julian so keep it realistic.

Perhaps a tier where Rabbit will, at the end of the podcast, after the outro, read each name and swear at us...

It's not related to the article, but I would gladly pony up $50-100 for a 6 pack of Rabbit's home brewed beer if such a tier were an option.

EDIT: An extra $50-100 on top of that tier should allow someone to name the batch and/or choose the style.

It warms my heart as much as it must make Rabbit nauseous to see this dream come, step by step, closer to reality.
Thank you again, Grump, for stepping up and finding a better way to handle the money. Your name belies a kind soul.
If I may make one grammatical correction to the kickstarter template, you left in the * but did not include the footnote.

I like the idea, but the cost and time for him to prep and ship the package might not be feasible. Who knows though...

Good point. It would probably only make sense for local(-ish) people or those who are willing to wait until PAX East. So maybe not the best idea...

Well, the name would be Shalalm Baskbrew, obviously.

Are you certain? a little Friendship Is Magic Ale might be nice.
