EDIT: Did I miss the info for the Vent server? I looked for it but couldn't find it.

Look at this thread.

I'm in, this is gonna be great!

Well if managed to get on for about 10 minutes before it was booted with a "lost connection" message.
Too bad. Before this last patch it was really stable.

So I'm a bit lost and need to find some sort of game guide. I killed some people though, found out how to spawn. I quit when the game got dark. The dark is so dark I couldn't even see the ground so I could walk. I got stuck in a valley unable to get out cause my screen was just...black.

Man, sometimes I hate whoever designs these website systems. I had not logged into the SOE in a long time so I didn't even try and remember my password and instead reset it.

I did that perfectly fine only when I went to log in on the site it didn't recognise the brand new password I had inputted correctly three times. So, I thought "maybe it's a bug" and reset it again - only to find you can't do that again within 24 hours. So I try to contact "support" as it's telling me to... but they're only frickin' available between mon-fri 9-5.... PST PST? MON-FRI?! This is the EU website idiots and it's a bloody 24 hr MMO. Both of those ideas/implementations are ridiculous!

So, I try to open a support ticket.... Station account login required. WTF?! Am unable to log in.

Third option: Phone support... Hmm....

Phone Support - Technical, Account and Billing help is available at 858 537-0898, Monday through Friday from 7:00am - 7:00pm PT (excluding holidays).

WTF? American phone support for an EU server and billing system? WTH?! I'm not phoning half-way across the world and spending more time and money in a queue system then I will have spent after half a year of playing the game.

Last option is to create a temporary account if all else is failing. I click the link and it's a 404...

Well played Sony.... well played...

I can't see my way past this impasse right now... maybe I'll be able to get it sorted, maybe not.

The server was running into some problems Saturday night, it hasn't been anywhere that bad the last few weeks.

Hockosi, as long as you are in full screen mode, you can adjust the brightness. Doesn't work in windowed/fullscreen windowed.

Some new features they just added:

* Hit N to access the control panel for any vehicle you buy. From there, you can Deconstruct the vehicle (no clue if that returns any resources, probably not). And you can lock/unlock the seats in the vehicles, full lock or squad only or anyone can board. Warning: There is a bug where unlocking seats fully unlocks the pilot seat, so anyone can fly off with your pimped out Galaxy. Just keep that in mind.

* New hud: 'centralized', moves your health/shield/ammo displays into a central circular HUD.

* Invert your up/down when piloting, now with 'doesn't mess with your gunner's turret' feature! There is now an option that just inverts the turrets, no clue why.

* New armor features, boost your personal shield, your resistance to explosions or just to damage overall. Fair warning: you can only do one of those at a time, so don't buy all three thinking you will be a tank.

Oh, and putting an antivehicular heavy machine gun on your ATV does let you shoot tanks, but they tend to shoot back. At least its useful for strafing parked galaxies, but they shoot back too.

Is there a suicide button? I've also found myself trapped or stuck somewhere I don't want to be and unless I can find a high enough ledge to jump off of, I'm usually stuck.

In the original planetside you could immediately redeploy back to your home Island from anywhere in the map. I'm presuming there's something similar in PS2.

I swear I posted earlier. I plunked down $40 for Alpha Squad.

just type "/suicide" (no quotes) to kill yourself if you get stuck. It might get removed later, because it's faster than Redeploying.

The classes are pretty balanced, not sure about the factions yet (currently Reaver (NC) owns the sky).

JOYSTICK SUPPORT ISN'T IN YET
Although the airplanes have some controls that won't map to a joystick anyway.
You're really in a super advanced hovercraft.

I only have 4GB of memory at the moment (a 2GB stick died), if I want to run the game, it more or less needs to be the only heavy-duty application running. With my settings, it does use 2GB of memory (I love that! Wonder what game developers around the world could do with 8 GB).

It takes a while to get into action sometimes, and joining a squad doesn't help unless they actually know they're in a squad and act accordingly.

Because flying and moving a turret are very different.
I don't understand how people fly without 'inverted'.
Just remember to never let these people take the stick if you're in an emergency on a real plane.

Just hit your return key then type "/suicide"

Jumped on for a short while today. Had a great experience where there was a huge push by a coordinated TR group with infantry, armour, and light air support on a VS position. I happened to be there for the initial repulse and shortly caught a bullet. I decided to grab a Gal (which I haven't really fooled with), dropped a personal waypoint where I wanted to drop it, and then flew in via some mountain valleys to avoid air-to-air attentions. In the meantime, the VS troops had repelled the original TR assault, and were making a push against the big TR base, which was just around a ridge. Unfortunately, resistance there was very heavy, and little progress was being made, as the VS troops were hampered by having to slog over to the TS base, while the defenders simple spawned-in-place. In an inspired moment (by which I mean I managed to put the Gal in the right spot without crashing it), I dropped in under fire and positioned the Gal such that the gunnery positions could fire on the tower without the Gal being too exposed. I jumped out and began a non-stop repair as my bird was getting hit pretty much constantly. Happily, the positioning was such that my Gal shielded me from direct fire. Another engineer sheltered-in-place with me and helped with the repairs. Suddenly, my Gal became the nexus of the entire assault. I watched as an unending stream of spawns came from it, and the minimap was a stream of blue arrows heading from my position to the objective. At a guess, over the next 15-20 minutes, I probably had somewhere in the region of 100-200 spawns. Even though the earned xp from that is pretty underwhelming (I'd get as much from a single base-cap), it was hugely satisfying to act as the lynchpin for what was ultimately a successful assault involving probably more than 50-60 people on either side.

Then I got cocky and tried to do a hot-LZ landing on the still defended platform, and promptly blew myself up. Oh well.

You can suicide by hitting escape, selecting the map, and the Redeploy button can be found on the lower right. If you are stuck in place and need to suicide/redeploy/instant action to get out, submit a bug report first, and mention where/why so hopefully they will fix it.

Sending a galaxy into the right place to turn the tide of a fight gives you a warm feeling, but at 5 exp per galaxy spawn, you aren't getting much of a kick back. Still, fun to do.

No, I have no clue why you would want to invert up/down just for manning a turret, but if you want to, the option is there now. Splitting the two options is a good thing, I tend to man a turret far more often than I do piloting, and it was annoying having to toggle that off every time I swapped jobs. Not to mention that trying to fiddle with menu options while hopping back and forth between the turrets and the cockpit was a sure way to crash.

I unlocked the cert to drop a spawn beacon but I have no idea how to drop it! What do I do?

I have a new strategy, I just go toward whichever territory has the Auraxium, the stuff you buy with it is expensive as hell.
Also, each time I repaired a generator, I noticed I got +5 exp and +1 Auraxium!

I too found the joy of an empty galaxy placed at the right platform. It was fun because there was another Gal on another platform close by so I got in my Max and I even had a whole team of engineers fixing up my bird while others continually assaulted the vehicle, then of course they spawned in and shot at my bird, etc. It flew away just before getting destroyed though. One time I tried ramming my Gal into a parked NC Gal. I went up in flames but I have no idea what happened to the other one.

I hope this is just a display bug and not the truth, but several times when playing as a Vanu Max with two Comets (I find them good enough against infantry), I shot many many rounds into an engineer-less tank and when I died, as I was destined to do in such a situation, the death screen showed that the tank was still at full health! This happened with both TR and NC tanks.
On the other hand, MAX > Lightning, seriously, just get one distracted so he isn't firing at me the entire time and he's toast in two or three reloads (dual Comet again).

The VS Sniper rifle isn't so great of a sniper rifle but does work as a large pistol. Right before I logged out tonight I actually got my Engie turret set up in a good position, I was able to kill a guy, then kill him and another guy and help with a couple of others when the medic revived them. It was hilarious.

I feel like I actually achieved something Beta-like, as when I first hot dropped I fell through the level and was slid around and popped back out onto the road.

Then I deployed out of a galaxy that was on the ground and simply fell through the level.

On the whole this reminded me of how much I hated Planetside 2. Also: man, Vanu were getting their asses kicked by the New Conglomerate.

My best moment so far: hot dropping from a squad beacon and landing on an NC galaxy. That's how you make an entrance.

It took 24hr for one of my accounts to reset.

Of course my primary one was done instantly so who knows.

I hope they make the unlock system a little bit easier to understand. I don't know about most of you but it took me quite awhile to figure stuff out.

One of the biggest annoyances that I have is right now, you can spend cert points in items and weapons that you dont even own. So you think when you spend the cert points it will unlock it. You actually have to spend the auraxium, THEN improve that unlock with the certs. It's just not very clear and not well laid out. I think they need to simplify things a some more.

I know this is going to be a F2P game but I think they should give you auraxium faster. I think Tribes and LoL has the time/per XP gained right. It just feels too slow in PS2.

If I have time tonight I might try to learn Ventrilo. Thanks, Coldstream, for linking to the thread, though I'm still not 100% certain how Ventrilo works. Is it like IRC only with microphones?

Who created the GWJ outfit? I tried to make it so I could get everyone invited but it says that the name is already taken. If you made it and aren't going to invite people to it could you hand the reins over?

RolandofGilead wrote:

First, equip it at an equipment terminal. MAX can't. Since you haven't equipped anything yet (probably), most of the other classes should have an empty slot you can put it in. Select the class, select custom loadout, select that empty slot (engineer, select the ammo pack slot) and then select the spawn beacon, then buy some (like buying a grenade). From that point on, as long as you have some spawn beacons purchased, when you resupply, a spawn beacon will be in your load out.

To place it, select 4 (probably, whatever the number for the slot is, if nothing else, scroll wheel through your options), and left click to drop it on flat ground. A pillar of empire specific colored light goes up, and you are good to go - for about 5 minutes, I think.

I have a new strategy, I just go toward whichever territory has the Auraxium, the stuff you buy with it is expensive as hell.
Also, each time I repaired a generator, I noticed I got +5 exp and +1 Auraxium!

It should be 1 Auraxium per 25 exp earned, at a territory that gives auraxium as its resource.

I hope this is just a display bug and not the truth, but several times when playing as a Vanu Max with two Comets (I find them good enough against infantry), I shot many many rounds into an engineer-less tank and when I died, as I was destined to do in such a situation, the death screen showed that the tank was still at full health!

What you saw was the health for the driver/gunner of the vehicle, not the health of the vehicle. Which will normally be at max health, unless they were hurt prior to embarking.

Does anyone else have Station Cash but see your balance in game as 0? I'm assuming that is because they don't want people spending their cash on items until the game is "released"?

By the way, is anyone else unable to find a resolution they really like? Every time I load up or look at the menu things seem stretched out, but if I choose the other resolutions I end up having letterbox at the bottom.

The game definitely looks like it is rendered at a lower resolution and then upsampled. Either that or a post-process effect they have is downsampled but then applied too liberally back onto the main buffer, making the game look pixelated.

So I gave this another try last night for an hour or two. I have to say, I'm really torn on this game.

I dropped into the middle of a large battle that was awesome. Tanks pounding each other. Aircraft swooping in to deliver ordinance or to bust tanks. Infantry swarming over the ground. It was incredible...what I imagine real combat to be minus the fear, terror, and (probably for me) urine-soaked pants.

But when that battle concluded, I dropped randomly into difference places with no clear direction of what I should do. Once I dropped into a Galaxy. I got to shoot down a fighter (yay!). Then we landed at a random complex, everyone got out, and I ended up wondering around the upper part of this complex by myself. I really need to dig into the tutorials to get this game.

Another beginner's guide:

That's why I want to get on Vent next time and even if we're not all in the same outfit, get together with GWJer guys. Organize a bit, and possibly communicate. I'm so used to gaming with a mic on Xbox Live that when I was killed by a sniper I didn't think to open the console and say "Sniper on the North side of...the...building."

The video was very well done! I knew everything he was teaching but he explained it pretty well.

Since "Gamers with Jobs" is already taken as an outfit name and I have no idea who created it; Would you guys be against naming our outfit "Goodjers"? Suggestions will be helpful and I will create it tonight.

GloriousPCGamingMasterRace with Jobs, with the sister outfits ScruffyNerfHerdersInBlueandYellow with Jobs and WannabeOppressiveRedandBlacks with Jobs.

Or, just to be boring, Vanu with Jobs.
