Minecraft

Heh.

No, the problem is I've installed it. Dammit.

I blame my nephew.

Well, just remember his advice. You'll need it eventually.

Fired it up again this weekend, for what was my first real experience ... since beta? It's not as bad as I thought, though I did run into a problem when I was new and an Enderman appeared in my mine tunnel. I had to pause and look him up.

Just don't look away!

Yes. Like bears and inappropriate uncles, the (Sl)Endermen demure from direct eye contact.

I just played some shoegaze on iTunes. It was cool.

Lindenlabs is working on a minecrafty game called Patterns. Polygons instead of of cubes. Objects have physics and tensile strength. Looks interesting.

Alpha will be available in early October.

I bought it a few weeks back (I blame my nephew)

I'm really enjoying it. I've not constructed any great monuments to the gods or anything but I've got a little cottage farm going and a nice big abandoned mine / cave complex I'm exploring.

I'm trying to figure out why they had to make it have even worse looking graphics than Minecraft. Sequels and spin-offs are supposed to improve on the original, no? And yes, I realize the focus is on the physics, but come on.

I will still probably buy it and have tons of fun playing it.

I'm yet to develop a decent response to creepers.

Although some ocelots have started hanging out nearby so I've caught some fish in the hope of taming one.

Just one mind, cos living on my own with multiple cats in an imaginary world is the first step on a road I'm not psychologically equipped to travel.

My response is "F*CK YOU CREEPERS! YOUR MOM IS A BOOGER"

Maq wrote:

Step one. Build a wall at least two blocks high.
Step two. Torches. Torches. Torches. If everything inside of the two block high wall is well-lit then the creepers stay on the outside.
Step three. Oh crap! Spiders! Raise the wall by two more blocks and add a crenelated parapet along the outside edge. (edit: remember to keep the top of the wall well-let as well, otherwise bad things can happen. Darkness is the enemy. Guard against it!)

I just snarfed coffee all over. I don't have cats or dogs in game, but it's because I don't need something else in my life to sit on my stuff, make noise, and ignore me when I tell it to do something.

My creeper response technique usually involves running. Screaming like a little girl is optional. Especially since I haven't had time to get to the chucken farm in this world and get feathers for a ready supply of arrows. I'm still working with what I scavenge from skellies I kill.

In single player, I've found its not too tough to run up and whack it, then run backwards until it stops sizzling. The additional latency, as small as it may be, makes this much tougher in multi-player.

You aren't talking about the GWJ server are you? Because there is an arrow spawner. X -1156 , Z 953. I tried to make it pretty simple to use. There is a portal to it from the Nether and the POI should show up on the overview map.

Oh. I haven't had time to get there, either. I'm in the middle of moving IRL, so my time is shot to heck, and I'm in the middle of moving stuff from my initial hovel to Cordelia.

Oh, I remember the days when it seemed like there was a lot to do in vanilla Minecraft. Then the Technic Pack happened.

Ok seriously... I tried to play that, and loved it, then it crashed a lot. Now MINECRAFT is going to be the cause for my next computer upgrade??

Despite its seemingly simplistic look, Minecraft is a beefy sucker, mostly because the engine runs in Java and is hardly as optimized as it could be.

I have dreams about how well native versions of this game could run. Truthfully it runs amazingly well considering it is java based. But jesus christ java really?

One of the reasons I want to upgrade is Minecraft. I want to be able to see panoramas in full-screen.

Do it. Give in. You don't know the true power of the Minecraft until you are running it on a system that points and laughs at Crysis 2. High-res textures + fancy shaders + automated machinery modifying the world around you = happy times.

At the moment my Son is playing the tablet version of this on my Android tablet and has asked for it on his PC.
does it ever go on sale or should I just man-up and buy it full price? Are there any coupons? Deal, sales going on now?

I have purchased numerous game licences for Minecraft for young relatives because it's SO MUCH BETTER than pretty much any other game for a >16 audience IMO.

He's sold over 7.5 million copies at the current price. When things start to slow down I'm sure they'll think about a sale.

So i'm guessing that's a no.
They only sell through their own site then?
