LOTRO Goings On

Giving this another spin until I can rake up the money for Guild Wars 2. Forgot I had a 40 something dwarf on Landroval from a few years back. Starting fresh though and am giving a Loremaster a try to see how it fits.

Is it just me or is there some information overload during combat? All the buffs/debuffs/sounds (there's a weird ding during combat sometimes that I can't tie to anything) is a little much to keep track of.

Successful blocks/parries have an audible chime, at least with my Guardian. There's a lot going on in any given battle, and I have no idea how morale/might/and all that stuff factor in. And I don't really care. I play cautiously, craft solid armor, and pay attention to whatever special attack icons light up.

Oh, and Landroval is a fantastic server. People are friendly and helpful, allaying the fear I had that douche-bags would ruin the immersive aspect I was looking for.

The flank ding on a lore-master is something to get used to listening for (and watching for in the form of two sets of pink arrows that will briefly appear around your target); two abilities open up from it, a very nice heal, and a heavier hitting staff strike. The eagle (level 45+ quested pet) gives pretty reliable flanks, so much so that you can work the heal and improved staff strike into a rotation and take down things in melee combat that other cloth wearers would wisely run from.

Edit: Link to the lorebook section on flanking

Hey Shyn thanks for the lorebook link! I knew about flanking but didn't know about wizards fire giving me a sweet heal. I always wondered why it didn't deliver on that promise- just seems I was using it at the wrong time.

Yeah, flanking is a very distinctive "ding" that took me forever to identify.

Riders of Rohan expansion launch date has been delayed to October 15th. Also, the NDA was lifted. If anyone has questions not answered on the forums, let me know.

And for our "trouble," everyone with a pre-order gets 500 TP and a goodie bag.

I've gotta get at least one of my characters to 75 before release... With all the good games lately, my "little break" has turned into a LOTRO-free summer.

Good. More time to finish leveling my Burglar. 4 more levels to go...

Dinged 75. F-U SARUMAN! Just said the heck with it and grabbed hour-long 100% ep boosts with the points I had to grind it out.

I've been in the Rohan beta, since about 2 days after the delayed the release. The bad part I can't actually play because their damn Lotro Community (in beta) is broken and won't let me log in; so I can't copy my level 75 char over to try the new stuff.

I put in a Support ticket and haven't heard word one back from them after the emailed me that they got he ticket.

Character Copy was disabled for NA so the EU folks could have a shot at it for a couple of rounds. When Round 5 comes up next week, NA will supposedly be able to copy. But E&G is almost as fast anymore.

Yeah, I got an email about Eyes and Guard tavern this past week. I had no clue about it when I initially got into the beta.

If they had closed the NA Char Copy, they could have had the forethought to tell us about it. OR maybe not tell me I could Copy my character over in the email.

I still don't know how the E&G stuff works; I haven't bothered logging in, in a few weeks. My duo'ing partner and I, are taking a break from Lotro for now.

I am unable to log into ANYTHING, other than My Turbine account and the game. Everything tird to their Community is all screwed up. The Community stuff itself is in beta since they switched to using game log ins instead of a seperate username/pw.

Riders of Rohan expansion goes live today. Release notes here:

And it's up and running now.

Tried to buy a 6th inventory bag. Unavailable to my character. Are they level-locked or something?

Not level locked but you'd need to have the 4th and 5th bags unlocked to be able to use it. I see this thread on the forums; looks like they pulled it to work on a bug.

Problem comes down to those of us who played pre-F2P and anyone who created characters while a VIP and automatically received the 4th and 5th bags, rather than those people who have explicitly bought the 4th and 5th through the store. The 6th bag was only showing as purchase-able for those who had bought the 4th and 5th in the store. When they do fix the bug with its store availability, expect intriguing forum discussions re: pricing

It's going to be 995 TP, account-wide.

I don't suppose there's a dedicated Minstrel player on here, is there? I'm Lvl 14 and trapped on a server apart from everyone here (I'll transfer at the first opportunity!), but unlike in WoW, I'm pretty lost as to what I should be doing in terms of preparing myself for dungeons, etc. Where's the best place to buy and upgrade armor and weapons? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

The best way to upgrade your armor and weapons is not in a shop, but with another player. You're going to want to find a tailor to make you new armor, a metalsmith to make you a new shield, and a weaponsmith to make you a new weapon. Have you picked a profession yet? You might be able to make some of that stuff yourself. If you haven't picked one yet, I'd recommend Explorer. They can make their own light and medium armor, and can harvest and sell wood, ores and the scholar materials they occasionally get from mining. If you really get into the game you might want to consider starting a few alts so you can craft your own gear.

I don't know what the atmosphere is like on your server but if you ask around, someone might be willing to get you sorted for a small fee (or free, if you're lucky).

Or you could start over on Landroval. Shouldn't take too long to get back to level 14, especially with someone helping you out. I'd be happy to set you up with some new equipment.

And as a mini, play it pretty much however you like. After their last revisions, they solo very well; still the best healers in the game though, so you'll never find yourself LFF for long if you're doing instances. Only thing I can recommend on the healing side is team up with folks in the outside world to get used to how the heals work and their timing etc, and practice; very traditional in many ways, big heals with long casts, small instant heals, some big heals that instant cast but have long, long cool downs. Power management as a healer gets trickier as you go up, but potions help, and you'll find captains and lore-masters are your new best friends

For guides, beware as many were written prior to the big revamp the minstrels underwent with Rise of Isengard; best I know of that's current can be found here.

So if you don't have the expansion, does the FTP give you a taste of mounted combat/questing?

From what I've seen in my brief look at it, you can't use mounted combat until you get to the new areas even if you own the expansion. I can't even customize my warhorse, though I've unlocked a few cosmetic options for it from having other mounts.

You pick up the warhorse as a quest reward at the end of a quest chain in the first little town in Rohan. Quest level is 75 and you don't even need to own the expansion to do it. F2P is fine too.

Thanks for the advice LobsterMobster and ShynDarkly! I'll see what I can do!

Thanks LM and Spanky. I'll take a ride over to Rohan and start the quest.
