Downton Abbey Catch-All

Did you watch the Christmas episode? You should find it and watch it.

You watched them all in under 2 days?

There is no possibility you aren't speaking with a genteel British accent.

I loaned the second season to my brother/sister in law and they didn't realize that the Christmas episode was the finale after getting through the main episodes. They were so happy when I informed them of that. I remember getting to that episode and being "Oh crap, if this isn't a real episode, I'm gonna be pissed."

It was nice that they actually put a little bow on top of Season 2. Season 1 ended painfully abruptly.

I'm not surprised. I watched the 1st season in an evening and all but 2 episodes of the second in an evening. It's so hard to stop. Whenever you finish an episode, you just want to hear the opening theme music right away.

I also just watched this as well, although not at such a fast pace- I averaged about 1 episode per day. While some parts of season 2 made its soap opera influences way too apparent, I did enjoy it overall and look forward to seeing the next season asap.

Oh my god - thank you! I just finished it...I was rather depressed/angry at the end of the second season, and the past 1 1/2 hours completely made up for it. So glad I didn't have to wait until Season 3 for these developments!

I know how you feel!

I know what the show is about, but every time I read its name I think it's 'Downtown Abbey', a show about a preacher trying to make a difference in the ghetto where he lives.

Maybe this will change your mind.

I'd like this version better.

I got the soundtrack on CD a few days ago. Ripped it to FLAC, and it is superb. I believe the soundtrack spans the first 2 seasons because the CD had some art from the second season. Most of the music was reused anyways. John Lunn is the man!

Agreed on the soundtrack. I was pleasantly surprised to find it on Rdio last week and I've spun it a few times since. The music is very well done and - as usual with TV/movie soundtracks - I was taken aback by how much it contributes to the overall feeling of the show.

I was unaware of John Lunn's other work before now, and was surprised to find out he was a member of the great 80's avant pop band Man Jumping.

And then there's Downto(w)n Arby's. (Yahoo video)

Finally watched season 1 on Netflix. Even though it's only 7 episodes, I'd been avoiding it because I knew I'd rip through it like it was Buffy, LOST, or Dr Who. And I did. Now I just need to visit home to borrow my mom's copy of season 2.

One of my favorite parts about Austen novels is the weird class structure. I never did figure out where Mr. Darcy's money comes from. Or anyone else's. They don't do anything! So this show is right up my alley. Especially since that silliness is starting to collapse and put into focus with the middle class Crawleys. "A job?!"

"What's a 'week-end'?"

I really need to watch the second season. I don't think it's on PBS' website anymore. That's where I finished up Sherlock too. But I'll hopefully catch up before season 3.

He was of the landed gentry. They made their money from agricultural rents.

Huh, didn't realize there was a thread for this show. I too burned through both seasons in a hurry. Though, it seems I may have missed this Christmas episode.

I'm assuming it wasn't the one with

Spoiler:

the Spanish fever and death of Lavinia?

So, Season 3 will be on iTV1 Sunday September 16, but won't be airing on PBS in the US until four months later.

Katy, that's the same thing that happened with Season 2. Painful, but... so far worthwhile.

If you haven't seen the Christmas episode, Dyni, you've missed the best episode of the series so far.

I have a feeling it will be airing all over the US much sooner than that. Call it a hunch.

The last half of the Christmas Episode is airing this Sunday. I've really enjoyed Season 2, despite the soapishness.

Spoiler:

Amnesia? Miraculously healed 'broken' spine? Eh, not great but I'll forgive it.

True. But I'd rather do what I did with season 2 — pre-order it on blu-ray, which came out days before it was broadcast in the US, and then watch it in a marathon weekend.

Actually it comes from his wife. Sure he makes money on owning all the land around the Abbey but he couldn't keep his lifestyle (upstairs/downstairs) without his American wife's money.

Dude... I thought we were talking about Downtown Abbey.. not Pride and Prejudice. I forget names. But Mr Darcy did not sound too familiar. Should have looked that up before posting.

Ok fine, I'll watch the show. (tagging for when I get caught up)
