DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

Dropped into Lingor Island this morning. I found it to be a nice change of pace, but not nearly up to Chernarus in quality standards. The enterable buildings and easy access to loot was nice, but it felt somehow shallow to me. I didn't feel even a little scared. This is a big generalization without really anything but my gut feeling to support it, but being in Lingor (for just an hour or so) felt like playing a game mechanic while being in Chernarus feels like playing a story environment.

It is nice having other players who don't always shoot on sight and to have some variation. It is SUPER nice not to have to worry about cheaters nearly as much. Still, unless a I'm playing w/ a group who wants to go to Lingor, I think I'm sticking in Chernarus for the time being.

Thanks to Hannibal and Magic for being good guides.

Just wondering if there's a bug that changes your login location. We logged out just North of Cherno, logged back in about same latitude, but West of Komorovo( I think. The one with the train bridge just west of it). Almost as West as you can get.

It took a bit of wandering and using watch and sun to figure out which way to go. I was way into the bush.

Ran into survivor up in a deer stand there. Not sure if he was armed. I didn't have a mic on. I have to restart the app to get it to work mid game with dayz. I did the careful through the trees approach, stopping and looking. I thought I spawned the zombies. I suppose he could have been prone in the stand. He never drew, and wouldn't or couldn't chat. I got him to answer that he saw the chats by standing up and down a couple of times.

I don't see how you guys are still playing the normal hive. This game is so hacked it's not funny. Doesn't it get old constantly wondering if the person who just killed you was using a hack?

That's gotta be some kind of mental block at work since even Rocket has said how bad the current map is for DayZ and he can't wait to build an actual official like DayZ map with all enterable buildings and stuff if i recall right. The official map is terribad and even rocket knows/admits it.

If a lingor server filled up to 40 people it'd be even more deadly than chernarus imho. If deadly is your concern.

On the other hand, lingor feels like a REAL environment, and chernarus feels fake as hell with almost none of the buildings even being enterable. Whole towns without an enterable building but zeds everywhere.

Lingor is a much more realistic, life-like, environment to play in.

If/When they rebuild the chernarus map for standalone and complete it (map should become full at about 4x current size with around a 200 player cap) with enterable buildings and a lil more balanced layout, then it may be able to compete with lingor again, but a lot of work is needed.

The ambiance in lingor is just awesome.

Sniped on us583.

DayZ needs a robbery engine.
I know I had nothing of interest to those guys. Saw them too. Just couldn't get away in time. They missed 3 shots, then I had to try to move to the next cover.

But I managed to recover and have functional gear back.

It made me want to start something like the RRF.
After being sniped and reading online that the RRF made themselves targets of hackers/bandits, just by doing nice things. Also, that they themselves may be hacked, unless it's possible to aquire hacked-in weapons from targets.

I was contemplating:
Defensive Anti Sniper Team & Emergency Rescue Division

or

Defensive Anti Murder Squad & Evacuation Legion
Anti Sniper Service & Heroes About Town?
Sniper Mitigation Operation & Rescue Effort?
or something less awkward.

The idea being. Make it dangerous to sit on a hill in a ghillie suit and pick of noobs trying to find starting gear.
Or, drop military weapons in starting towns with some other benign objects which are an obscure calling card. Call the unit, Redwood and leave a chemlight and firewood with an AK in low level residential drops. This one would be much less rewarding though.

I feel like the game needs factioning, or custom uniforms. Some way to know your team. I really hope that becomes a feature.

Not knowing if you can trust anoyone is significant to the zombie universe. Assuming that it's better to kill survivors than risk that they're going to kill you is somehow broken. You need to assume trust and suspect deceit.

When it becomes better to kill survivors than to loot drops, there's a problem.

Maybe a synergy effect would help. Somehow lend grouped and allied players an advantage. Though you'd probably just end up with ultra powerful sniper groups.

There has to be an answer to the question, what (in stories like Walking Dead) tips the balance enough that people group and help out, and work against the zombies, more than hunt each other? How do you make that work in the game? It's probably humanity, which in games is lost in, or on the other side of the uncanny valley.

Maybe it's the threat level of the zombies? Though balancing this for new spawns is going to be hard.

Right now, it's not long until zombies are not a threat, and boredom leads to survivor hunting.

What if there was a system where, if the survivor death rate is increasing on the server, random zombies spawn around grouped survivors? The creates a player interest in keeping survivors alive. A kind of surrogate for humanity. It benefits you to keep new players alive, and help them out, and discourages murders. This with the increase in zombie efficacy might work.

That's not fair for the folks though who dont want to help others. This is a survival game after all not a communism 2.0 sim.

Communism 1.0 was a huge letdown. I hope Comm Sim 2.0 is better.

Either that's my point, or we have divergent ideas of survival.

Individual survival, or human survival?

The tension in the walking dead universe, when they meet survivors they don't know they can trust like the pub scene in the farm season, that is something with is really effective in this game. I've met an random survivor, who kind of surprised me. It turned out he didn't shoot me. The adrenaline rush, followed by the next few seconds of Mexican stand-off, followed by some sort of comradare was an excellent experience.

Kill everyone creates tension but no uncertainty, which limits reward.

Man, so tired of tents eating my gear.
SVD and 10x mags
M240 and 3x box mags
Those two were my fault, forgot to save fuzz's tent.

Set a new tent of my own, definitely saved this time.
L85A2 + Mags
DMR + Mags (thankfully one popped back into fuzz's tent)
M4 AIM SD + 10 SD Mags

Thankfully I found another M4 AIM SD on the next run through the prison and the 10+ SDmags were back in fuzz's tent.

I believe certain servers simply do not save tents. I know that UK226 has some persistent tents that have been able to save at least once with the 1.7.2.5 update. Spreading stuff between servers is probably the best way to find one that saves stuff.

We're playing on a lingor server with a private hive. Not sure what caused Red's tent to eat items, but i havn't had any of my items get et yet. So far my 3 tents have all seemed to work exceptionally well for myself.

So you can't really spread sh*t on multiple servers. That said, Lingor absolutely doesn't lend itself to tent cities, nor is there any need to stockpile with the spread out availbility of pretty decent gear.

Finally found my first heli crash site last night, just south-east of the NWA. Hooked me up with a Bizon and a couple of clips. Now I need to find another site to get some more ammo for it! (presuming that Bizon ammo only spawns at heli crash sites?)

I treat the Bizon and FN FAL as disposable weapons. I've never found ammo for either that didn't spawn w/ a weapon. So I have to go against my preference to horde and use them until they're empty and then drop it.

I think you're right. I'll probably just use it in situations where stealth would be best (it's not the most powerful for taking out zeds either.. I can imagine it's pretty useless in PVP) and then ditch it when I run out of ammo. Besides, I still haven't found the military backpack yet, so those 8 slots it takes up in the Alice pack could really be used for something more useful.

I watched a rabbit run into a tree and die.
I was going to take a shot, to get the meat, and thought, I'd sneak up before it ran away again. It was rather easy.
Seemed like a glitch at first, but there it was on the ground dead at the base of the tree.

M. Night Shyamalan?

To me Lingor buds:

Be "Vigilant" around 55x58 keypad 7 and 4. It's "addiction" to find so many great guns ghillies and night vision.

I weareth a SVD, AS50, Mk 48, NV, rangefinder, GPS, and ghillie atm leaving behind at least 3 of each.

The incredimap for Lingor:

http://map.dayzlingor.de/

Both my keys now have AS-50, AS50 special ammo, MK 48 w ammo belts, NV, rangefinder, GPS, ghillie.

And i'm checking out sniper perches and setting up to overwatch that camp from a distance and slaughter the miserable puppies when they come home this evening hopefully.

Hmm, I'm down to play some Lingor tonight. I've been hoarding high level weaponry on the normal hive servers lately, but don't am too worried about losing it. Hope that'll change on Lingor with easy loot availability.

With how easy it seems to be to break bones in this game, the rabbit's skeleton probably shattered on impact with the tree.

Tell me about it, I just vaulted through the floor of a house and broke my legs running through the walls.

I may or may not have ran across those coodinates you left in the other post. I also might have pretty much the same loadouts, minus the AS50 ammo. Had to run back to our tent to grab some standard M107 rounds.

So what is the low down with the AS50? Looks like it has a fixed scope zoom? I liked that the DMR had a variable. Also the rangefinder doesn't seem to be ranging any key I need to depress to get it to give me a number?

Dunno on the rangefinder.

On the AS50, and maybe the 107, i forget atm, the scope is zoomed with the numpad + and - keys. This is because breath is held with the RMB for a steady shot. Seperating zoom from hold breath allows you to shoot accurately from either scope position. This would allow you to shoot from extreme distances beyond the zeroing ability of the rifle using the mil dot markers on the unzoomed scope, but GL with that in DayZ. It's very handy for mid range or close range sniping with the AS50 though since you dont HAVE to zoom to get a steady shot.

All that said, i'm done with DAyZ, again, till at least standalone probably. Getting waaaaaaay too hacky for my blood even on Lingor. Last two days everything was fine for me in the daytime with just a few regulars on, but come later afternoon towards evening a few more folks get on an inevitably some crazy wierd sh*t happens and it's night night via hack for me....tired of it. Was lying prone in a house for 30 minutes+ during a rainstorm with abosultely no visibility to me from anywhere, and a few new people login, suddenly i hear "SMACK SMACK SMACK", like bullets hitting the house close to me, 1 at a time a second a part. I changed to a crouch position to look out and instantly took one to the face.....from further away than it was possible to hear the gun.

It's just so blatent. There's no way i can come up with to do something like that other than with a "ESP Wallhack" Odds are he had a box on me via an ESP and when i stood up, the next shot fired without even being able to actually see me just went through the window instead of hitting the wall between me and him that he probably couldn't even see...he prolly just had a box showing "hey, player here at 1500 meters" or whatever. The sad fact is, battleye will never catch those either:( Nothing can prevent those apparently, they're available all over the hacking sites on the net and people use em all the time in games like Battlefield and CoD on PC too. You can be sneaky as hell and all it takes is 1 super simple easy DLL injection to ruin your 3+ hours of work in the case of the last two days.

I tried it back in BF Bad company 2 before i quit, its easy and it works, and you can tell a ton of people are doing it when you try one sometime...if yer a doubter, try it sometime.

I've had more than enough. I'ma stick to better actual games than murder simulators and i got plenty to do with D3, LoL and coming up Borderlands 2.

It occurred to me that someone could have sniped it to mess with me, but I wasn't killed so, I doubt it.
I was in a really low value area, in the middle of the woods.

I think my next goal is to try to get my humanity up to 5k. That means I'll have to administer some first aid.
I raided a hospital and have some medical supplies.

Do you hardcore guys uses real military tactics like overwatch, and individual movement? Does this help stay alive? Is it worth learning about?

Vs normal players (non-hackers) it will often at least lead to a revenge kill, if not a first kill and save. And yes, always use if you got a group of at least 3.

I have killed a guy for the heck of it when he shot a goat in the middle of a field from the trees, alerting me to his presence, then he ran out in the middle to gut it...i left his and the goat's corpse there together....

It sounds like the Vigiliant Addiction admins have been working on banning scripters, but I am not sure they are able to detect the wallhacks. Have you tried asking them about it?

For the record, I highly doubt Justified is hacking in his own gear, despite his perfect load out the other night when I killed him. Yesterday he was on and had managed to fall into the water and broke his legs and was stuck, needed help re-spawning himself where if he was hacking gear why not give yourself a morphine injector.
