Android Games Catch-All

I've had a bit of a play with Shogun now. It's quite neat, an interesting take on an RTS.

You collect resources, create buildings and train units. The battlefield is simplified - a hex field in which your troops and the enemy advance towards each other, with some ability to maneuver. From the first few missions, there seem to be a fair variety of units to choose from.

It looks very pretty and performance is very smooth on my S3.

that looks fun, kind of like xcom or ghost recon on the DS.

I've been playing game dev story which is a oldie but I just picked it.

Are there any games like privateer? A game where you can buy and sell goods to different planets and fight space pirates or be a space pirate?

Galaxy on Fire 2, but you need to have a Tegra based phone.

There are a couple 2D games like that but their names escape me atm. Dark Galaxy or something like that.

Edit: Dark Galaxy is basically a Facebook game. Star Traders is the game I was trying to think of.

Star Traders had a good concept, but the execution was pretty sloppy, confusing and annoying. I really should just write my own, as I love that style of game and really want a good one for my Android.

Yeah, I agree it's far from perfect, but the free version gives you a ton to do and the devs are really good people who put a ton of work into their titles and engage with the community. Definitely worth a look.

Star Trader looks to be a remake of a palm game that might have been called space trader. I was kind of surprised at how poorly this game handled trading. The game doesn't track the prices you buy or sell products. Dopewars which came out in the age AOL did price tracking. There should be a screen that does nothing but track prices for different planets. The game should also tell you if you are buying and selling at a loss or gain. Need to put some more time into it.

I have a transformer prime and am looking for an entertaining rpg or story driven type game to keep me entertained while flying around this month. Any ideas?

Sorry I just now got to this, but Tetris is the free game on the Amazon Appstore right now.

You've got another 2.75 hrs to get it!

Big Google Play store going on. $0.25 apps and games. I haven't seen a "hub" at Google Play, but here's a rolling list from Android Central.

As of right now, the list includes:

Angry Birds Space Premium
Asphalt 7: Heat
Draw Something
Granny Smith
Let's Create! Pottery
London Bus Checker
NFL Kicker 13
Ocean HD
OfficeSuite Pro 6+
Tasks

Puzzle Quest 2 is cheap (if you're committed to one character class, you can get the entire game for $1.99) and has quite a lot of content. The story isn't anything to write home about, but there are some surprisingly funny bits of dialogue/side quests sprinkled around here and there. It plays well and looks great on my Nexus 7.

Adventure Bar Story (Sort of like Recettear: An item shop tale) is interesting, and there's a lite version to try.

I really enjoyed Battleheart.

Are they changing the deals over the course of the sale? I read somewhere that it's running for 5 days.

Pocket Planes is out for Android now.

Well, f*ck. There goes my afternoon.

EDIT: Anyone know if flight crews are cross-platform?

Wonderful. Thanks!

Yes. 5 days, new stuff each day.

I think they might be. I joined the gamerswithplane flight crew and somebody had been making some progress in the last event. Not 100% sure though.

#Pocket Planes:
Ate my battery and uninstalled it.

#25 cent sale:
Nothing all that interesting, but I always love sales!

Pocket Planes is really not well optimized yet. It takes forever to load and as Sku Boi mentions it completely eats my battery. Plus, this isn't the sort of game that interests me anymore it seems. Tiny Tower didn't and this is hardly that compelling.

The final day of $0.25 apps and games over at Google Play is upon us! Here's a full list (via Android Central) of what is $0.25.

I already picked up Great Big War Game. Nice to see a pretty new title appearing on this list!

I bought Bejeweled 2 a year ago, but apparently it does not work on my new phone. Tell me what the best clone on the android market is.

#Bejeweled Alternative
Smiles HD is my favorite. I think it's superior and more interesting to look at than Bejeweled.

I picked up Rayman Jungle Run through the Amazon Appstore a few days ago. $2.99 on Amazon and Google Play.

I've only played a few levels, but it's running very, very well on my Kindle Fire. Good mechanics, beautiful graphics, and whimsical.

Here's a blurb on Joystiq about it too, if you want more information.

Anyway, it's worth checking out. Probably best on tablets as opposed to phones, but I could see it working. Enjoy!

Beastie Bay is a new Kairosoft game, and it's free. There's an ad-bar at the bottom, but I haven't found it overly intrusive.
(I think you can pay a few bucks to remove it.) It has a bit of a Pokemon angle to it, and you can equip armor/weapons/accessories that grant skills to the monsters you convert.

I got it on my Fire HD and it's very nice. Graphics are beautiful just as you say. Gameplay is fairly simple, though. It's sort of a platformer on raills. I have done the first several jumping levels and it has been a lot of fun.

Once you discover the school, we can start sharing the codes for some of our higher level instructor-monsters.

So being the football nerd that I am I tried out Big Win Football which is basically a facebook game where you pick player cards to make up and team and you can watch the simulated game. They give you a little bit of silver coins for free to purchase card packs after games and you can buy gold coins. A small gold booster pack is 10 gold and a player pack is 10. It costs $20 to get a couple thousand gold. Here's the thing: I started out with 17,900 gold! This must be an error! Does anyone else know if this is how the game works?

As a type this it errored out and I am having trouble getting back into it, but thought it was a little crazy.

Hott. How are you liking the Fire HD? I'm waiting to hear what the verdict is on the 8.9" edition before upgrading. Amazon is accepting trade-ins of the previous model for $83, so I figure it's well worth the upgrade to one of them.
