Self indulgent parent thread

My son turned one today! Being a dad is super awesome and there is nothing like it. One year ago I held him for the first time. Tonight as I rocked him to sleep I held him a little longer than normal to look at his sleeping face and rub is not quite as tiny as it used to be body.

Sharing some of his new puzzle pieces with daddy.

Hey happy birthday little man =)

So when someone asks your child where he grew up, he gets to say "In a castle!" That's awesome.

4 days 'til 1 year for my guy.

Very cute little boy you have there, MonoCheli. Happy birthday to him!

Hi guys, long time lurker, first time post-er-er. (EDIT - first time posting in this thread, I mean...)

I'm 41 have two adorable kids that I'll be posting some pics of shortly.

I have a question - do you think it would be appropriate for me to start talking about vasectomies here, where I know there are a buttload of dads to talk to? Should I start a new topic? Or is there a topic about that already that you've seen that I should work a lot harder to find? (Normally I wouldn't ask this question because I'd do a search... but I can't seem to find the search for this forum.)

There may be other threads but I don't see a Vasectomy Catch-All. Maybe start one!
No topic of conversation is taboo here, as you probably already know.

Yeah he will. His cousins are already rather jealous of him and asking questions like "Why does Leland get to live in a castle and we don't?"

Enjoy that little bugger mrtomaytohead!

I don't know that it clicked till I was rocking him how much he has change and how much he has changed me in the last year. I enjoyed spending some time with him yesterday, I wish I could have spent more but castles don't just run themselves.

Perfect, thanks... will assume there will be no problem with me bumping it. Appreciate the link. Is there a search in here somewhere I'm not finding? (I know this is when Dr. Sarcasmo says "Google.")

Bump away. Look on the left-hand side of the page. It is a small box right underneath the site logo, right above the popular forum threads list.

Don't worry. Not even the GWJ search function could find the GWJ search function.

*still can't find search... thinks for a minute... switches from Safari to Firefox.*

Oh. There it is!

This is my son Ian... he's almost one year old in this image, but is now five. I saw somebody else posted a Yoda image, so I thought I'd share mine as well. I'll share more in a bit.

That made me laugh more than it should have. Thank you, I needed that today.

Since I haven't shared any pics in a while... My little guy started walking more than a few steps at a time yesterday!

Also, check out his onsie. Mommy bought it for him.

I'm still thrown by the fact that he's not orange. Cute little fella, though, and well done mom for buying him a transformers onesie!

Spoiler:

That's the transforming part

Now all I can see is that bunny.

Funny thing is my wife says we've got a bunny mafia in our neighborhood. They're everywhere all the time and we don't see many squirrels. And the cat that stays outside from next door never seems to do anything about them, but left us a dead squirrel on our doorstep a few weeks after we moved in when it still liked making our front porch it's daytime resting spot (it gives shade all day after mid-morning) and the previous owners used to give it food and water).

Even though he has no idea who they are, seeing my 3 month old with Finn and Jake makes me smile!

My oldest just started sixth grade. Just got a note from his math teacher, saying that he's doing well, and "He has shared great ideas through active participation."

May not seem like much, but that's huge for my shy/introvert kid. It's something we'd been working hard on in elementary school, and fretting about with the move to a bigger school with lots of kids he doesn't know.

And a recent picture -- since the indulgent parent thread lives on pictures -- in NYC after a bike tour with Dad:

They went about 200 miles, Albany to Manhattan.

Teagan and I just played peek-a-boo! She was the one that kept covering her face with a cloth and then "surprising" me! Best feeling in the world. She is a little bit over 5 months and she keeps doing stuff developmentally ahead of the curve; crawling with intent, peek-a-boo, etc.

Since I work at a place that tracts development it has my peers astonished.

oh and a picture form my awesome photographer friend.

Congrats! I look forward to seeing some pictures. Our baby girl decided to come one day after her due date, but the joke is on her because she is could have had her birthday on St. Patrick's day.

While putting Lilly (4) to bed tonight she asked my the earth spins around.

Tomorrow we are going to be making the solar system out of playdough!

Spoiler:

And yes, there will be a Pluto damnit!

Just to chime in, not related to kids, but my wife was born on St Patty's Day. Her name is Patty which works out great. I'll never forget her birthday!

Spoiler:

or her name!

T-minus 8 days for my wife and I. I tried looking for the "Holy crap I'm about to become a parent and I'm scared to death" thread but couldn't find anything. If it doesn't exist I'll create it so the parents who have gone through this can talk us noobs down from the ledge.

Will there also be a Haumea, Makemake, Eris or Ceres too?

Thank you! I like Pluto as much as the next guy, but it is not a planet, dammit, Janet!
