Torchlight 2 Catch-All

Yay for getting the game in a month. I should have had enough of the initial GW2 rush by then to take an occasional Torchlight2 break.

I think I have too many games to play once again at the end of the year.... What is wrong with developers/publishers?!

Just means I have to prioritise the games and not buy the others. I guess it's better for me as I'll pick up some games cheap later on but that's bad for the developers...

Don't you mean "what is right with developers/publishers"? It strikes me as some kind of wrong when we complain about something good, trying to make things less-good can only be a bad thing.

Also if your conscience is troubled and your wallet is weighing you down, there's nothing stopping you paying full-whack for everything if you want to.

No, I meant what I said. Releasing a load of games in a short time window means you have to compete for mindshare and limited funds for that period in your consumers.

I don't know of many other industries that do this (movies are an exception) because it kills sales...

My wallet isn't weighing me down I just spent that money over the summer on other things and I'm not going to pay full-whack for a game I'm not going to play right there and then. Maybe that makes me stupid?

What's with all of these restaurants making good food every day? Don't they know I can't eat pizza, tacos, pad thai, ribs, and chili every day? I'm mad at them.

Classic carrot.

Who told you this? You need a new dietary advisor.

Bearing in mind I'm not affected or annoyed by this release schedule - as I said, it benefits me - how many restaurants do you get in a small village on one road that manage to cater to less than 5,000 people? Certainly not more than 5-10. (I should know because I lived in a village like that) Yes, restaurants do go out of business due to competition from alternative restaurants that do not sell the same type of cuisine given a specific catchment area, local household budget and timeframe. You put your business in a poor position/location and it'll do badly regardless of the potential clientelle...

On the other hand, I realise that they can't just continue to keep paying the rent and bills of the company and wait to release the game whenever they consider it a good time if it's ready. Either way, I feel sorry for them because they're going to miss out on revenue they could have obtained.

They should really hire you to run their business that they don't know how to run.

What the heck? I haven't been invited to this group yet?

Nyx Stele! Why are you slacking man?! :p

Or maybe someone who writes snarky comments in response to non-snarky thoughts and makes metaphors that don't work could see that their interaction is unnecessarily inflammatory.

Bearing in mind I wasn't even complaining in the first place - as Scratched wrote.

Uh... invite sent.

The metaphor is about people complaining that there are too many games launched during the same period, as if games can't be played later. You didn't understand it. Also, stop shedding tears over their business plan that THEY chose in THEIR best interest. People in this thread are ridiculous

Not complaining ^

That's what I was responding to. Stop being a spoiled consumer.

We have a Steam group?? Hit me up, please! http://steamcommunity.com/id/superduck

A smiley changes everything.

I wasn't complaining. I'm not a spoiled consumer.

It was my fault for forgetting that people automatically think the worst of you on the internet.

Yes, i think it's bad for them. It's not bad for me. Like I said.

[edit2] I think I'm allowed an opinion on business plans. Games can be played later - hence my "cheaper" comment.

Am I in the steam group as well? If not, invite me!!

Steam group me.

Oh oh oh! Is it time for me to roll this out again?

Yeah, definitely and remember, on the internet we're all douchebags anyway

The metaphor wasn't obtuse enough to avoid scrutiny. However, I'll Russian judge him a 7.0 for sticking the dismount.

On the reg: I'll be excited when this game is finally out. I had pushed it out of my mind, but all this hubbub hyped me back up.

Honestly, this situation could be worse. Remember when everyone pre-ordered the Phantom Menace PSOne game? If things like Torchlight 2's very liquid release date bother you, then I'd recommend that you don't pre-order games.

Steam group me too!

Please may I be Steam groupified?

Please include me for a Steam invite, thanks.

For those of us that didn't do steam, should we start a roster thread or something to find each other?

I thought the game was Steamworks? I was about to reply to you that everyone will be using Steam. And I did a quick google that shows stuff everywhere talking about Steam for matchmaking, and Steam workshop for mods.

But I also saw a topic about buying directly from Runic and it not requiring Steam. So how the hell are those people supposed to get mods or friends?

There's an in-game server browser and friends list. Regarding mods, it might be that those who don't use Steam will have to deal with mods in much the same way as the first game.

So is it like Spiral Knights in that if you're friends with someone on Steam then you're automatically friends with them in-game?

I haven't seen anything that suggests it'll be in at launch. I hope that's wrong, though.

I thought most people avoided steam whenever possible... so yeah we bought it direct.

Actually a lot of people love Steam, and avoid all other digital download services whenever possible.
