Planetside 2 Catch-All

Good. Now I can just ask you guys what I can do when I jump into this game or something or how I organize. I barely have time to load the game up these days, let alone read how to play it.

Find enemy + shoot enemy = happiness. That's the full equation!

I did find an interesting bug yesterday. One of the doors on a tertiary building was half the size it was supposed to be. The only way you could get out was by crouch walking but the Max's couldn't' get out. It was pretty funny!

One of the stealth fixes seems to be tightening the cone of fire on Vanu carbines. It seems much easier to take down targets at mid to long distance with the Light assault rifle.

Well there was a thread in the forums where the dev's admitted that the Vanu weapons were underpowered, so tightening the cone was a good change. I thought the weapons were ok before, but since I did not play any other faction I cannot compare them to the NC or Terran.

The game has been getting better with each patch guys. I think the dev team has been doing a good job trying to get the engine ready for prime time and ironing out things. That and some balancing.

BTW.. Why is our server just one giant NC colony? Its up and over 40% NC on most nights. Seriously you NC can't win without the zerg?

Will someone email those guys and tell them not to be so simple-minded and stop being confused by having more than two colors on their HUD?
Seriously, how old are they and how long have they been playing games? Having your team always one color and the other always the other color is a relatively recent invention, lots of games require you to remember what f***ing color your team is!

When I played last night after the patch the game actually looked better and ran a bit better. I think most people te still figuring things out. For instance: most people kept trying to take a base through this little door way while the few of us were trying to take down the shield gens so we can get through the entire base.

It's been lonely in Vent the past few days - I'd like to encourage everyone to hop on while playing to make grouping a bit easier. Hell, even if you're a filthy NC or fascist TR, we could still chat while taking pot shots at each other.

Levelcap (BF3 youtube guy) starts posting informative PS2 stuff:

I can't wait for this to release!!

[edit]

He is saying in that video that the reaver is faction specific? That wasn't like that in the original - is that correct? What do the vanu and TR have instead?

The NC has the Reaver and Liberator, I know the TR has the Mosquito and the Lib, can't remember if they have a Reaver and the Vanu have the Scythe and the Liberator. All factions have the Galaxy. I was playing some this morning and thinking, this game is already a blast to play and there's literally tons of stuff that they haven't even opened for testing yet. I would anticipate that with all of the weapons and certifications that it's going to take some time to flesh out the balance but the potential of this game is really going to be amazing. It seemed initially that airpower was out of control but know that people are starting to unlock some anti-air weapons the reavers and liberators aren't free to just hover and spam. They did some really smart things with stuff like proximity chat and the recent addition of platoons is going to make team play outstanding.

I really with they'd open up the AMS though!

I'll admit, I've been taking a walk on the purple side and I haven't hated it. I will say, the base weapons of the Vanu Max's are obscenely better than those of the NC.

That's odd, while I love the Comet (Vanu MAX anti-armor weapon), I'd much prefer the scattercannon shotgun off the NC MAX to the quasar Vanu MAX anti-infantry weapon. The random spread off the quasar is annoying. The scattercannon does accurate and extreme damage at short range, and just shreds me whenever I have the misfortune to get shot by it. TR MAX weapons are in between, the Cycler works great but the TR MAX antiarmor weapon is not as useful as the Comet.

I'm assuming the burster MAX AA is the same for all three empires, which is to say its unimpressive, again. The devs keep overtweaking the AA in P2, some days it works, most days it doesn't.

***

Fighters are empire specific, NC gets the Reaver, TR has the Mosquito and VS gets the Scythe. Everyone gets the Liberator and Galaxy. While I'm not a pilot, they seem to be on par.

AMS? Its gone. No more AMS.

Interesting! Because the reaver and mosquito filled different roles in the original. I wonder how they tooled the mosquito to be able to deal the same sort of damage as the reaver... The scythe is a complete unknown.

They are all the same, It just depends on how you want equip it. It is not the Reaver and Mossy you know from PS1.

I think I just did the impossible: remembered my login for my old Station account back when I played PS1. Of course, there wasn't a beta invite waiting for me, so remembering really didn't gain me all that much, but still sort of fun.

You need to register for the beta as well as have an old PS1 account. Worked for me.

Maybe I made a change happen in the beta, maybe I didn't, who knows...

Spoiler:

A few patches ago, I ejected from a Liberator just before it died. Catching a tailgunner spot on a lib at the warpgate, eh, you expect the pilot to be an idiot, and this one was. RIP.

So, I rode the light assault jetpack to a soft landing, and found myself near the Palisades outpost. I ran over to the single control point, waited for it to switch from NC to neutral (100 exp) to VS (another 100 exp), then jetpacked straight up. The single outside control points are set in a console adjacent to a fat column. If you jetpack up a few feet you are on a ledge that runs around the column, no cover, so you tend to be seen quickly. But, above that, there is a ring of shields that stick out from the column, each shield supported by a handful of pipes. I flew up and landed on the pipes and waited while the base locked down (another 500 exp), and went through its 2 minutes security reset (a period where no one can capture the base, it varies, up to 6 minutes for the largest bases).

A few minutes later, 3 NC run in, capture the point and run off without waiting for the security reset. As it turned out, I was just in range to activate the control point, so the control point immediately started flipping back to VS. One of them ran back, ran in circles, called his friends back and this time they waited for the reset before running off.

And so began a 90 minute epic struggle... to control my giggling. People just don't look up.

The reset ran through, and since I'm still in range of the control point, so it flips. A few minutes later a single VS runs up, runs around and then runs off again. Since I'm still in range, its one vs one, so the control point won't flip. After a bit he runs back in with a friend. Unfortunately for him, the friend is in a MAX suit, and the devs had recently changed it so a MAX can't flip a control point (eventually you will have to hack the control point, and a MAX can't hack). They type a few curses in /say, thinking its a beta glitch, they run off.

And so it goes. An NC convoy drives in, tanks and sunderers and reavers in the air, they spray the area around the control point in the hopes of finding me, eventually take the control point and drive off. And drive back because they didn't wait for the reset to lock down the cap point, and there I was... They drive off again.

And 2 minutes later I flip it again. This time a few NC run back in, and start to cap the point when a handful of TR drive up to contest it. They have a running firefight, some more NC show up followed by some more TR followed by more NC who finally drive the TR off. During all this, I'm still sitting about the cap point, and flipping it back to VS and locking it down. After the firefight dies off, 6 NC swarm around the cap point, shooting everywhere except ... ya, they still aren't looking up, even when I'm plinking away with a silenced pistol at them, and dropping a grenade. They do some cursing in /say, including 'we have to find this VS @#$%!'. Its a good thing its me laughing my ass off, and not my avatar, or I'd have dropped on their heads.

So it goes, back and forth and back and forth (700 exp each time it goes VS), sometimes with TR poking in, mostly NC, and they never look up.

Never.

Sadly, about about an hour and a half, I get dropped from the server with a strange error message. Forgot exactly what it said, except it wasn't the message you get for being AFK (I had been in the exact same spot the entire time, just turning around in place to line up pistol shots. Thinking nothing of it (its beta, crashes happen, right?), I go back to the server, and end up in an entrenched struggle for Zurvan for the rest of the day.

The next day, I go back to the same spot, and try the same thing. The oddest thing, those pipes I was sitting on yesterday? Ya, well, you can still see them, but now you just fly right through them, they aren't solid any longer, just a graphic. Heh. Makes me wonder...

If anyone is looking for me online I'll either be on the NC side as "AirBear" or on the Vanu side as "FrogBear".

I can't play TR, facist bastards!

Had the good fortune to tailgun for a Galaxy that had replaced the rear popgun with the A30 Walker twin-linked heavy machinegun mount. Sweeeeeeeeet gun. Give me that, a level or two of zoom and you can kiss an fighter behind your Galaxy goodbye! 75 rounds til you have to reload, and it spits them out blazingly fast. Which is its only flaw, a trigger happy gunner will burn through the reload ammo too fast.

Last night I was in the most epic firefight I've ever been in. We held a small outpost and their were TR pouring out of a main base up that was slightly elevated up on a hill. There' were several hundred yards of essentially open field between us with nothing but a few trees an some rock outcroppings. The best part, it was night and the tracer fire was simply awe inspiring. It made of some of the most amazing gaming I've ever been part of.

This game, when fully implemented is going to be unreal.

I figured that was you who friended me. Why frogs?

I believe you being able to cap a point from above it or below it is WAD. The cap radius is one big sphere, not a circle.

Mayfield wrote:

I sent you a /w but it doesn't sound like you got it. I wound up with "FrogBear" because Bear was taken and the skin on the Vanu reminded me of a frog. Hey it's only beta!

They're dropping keys into the SOE Twitch.tv stream chat:

That live stream is great. They're streaming some great music, gaming and dropping keys like mad!

The change was the pipes are no longer physical objects, so you can't perch above the cap point now. The timing of the change, after I was booted from the server, that's what I was commenting on.

Gah I'm never gonna get a key. It's going open beta soon right....?

Sorry I bailed last night. I was weapon locked all night because I killed those guys that were tking everyone at the warpgate. I wonder how long my weapon lock is going to last.

1) We are allowed to talk about the game right?

2) What is weapon lock?

I'm in the beta but every time I try to play it crashes.

Oh well, I hope my crash reports are providing useful information to the developers.

Also, I probably just violated the NDA.
