2012 NFL Losers Pool

What is this?

It's pretty simple. Each week of the NFL season, you pick a team to lose. If that team loses, you stay in the competition. If the team wins, you're out. The catch is that you can only pick each team once per season. So at some point you're probably going to run out of awful teams and have to choose a decent team that you hope will lose.

What are the rules? (I guess for anyone who found the preceding paragraph confusing)

  • Prior to the start of the first game each week, you must choose a team that you think will lose a game.
  • You cannot choose a team more than once during the season.
  • If you don't get your pick in prior to the first game starting, I'll assign you the most popular pick that you haven't used.
  • If the team wins, you're out.

What's in it for me?

I always found this game pretty fun on a few other forums I used to be active at. As someone who isn't a huge NFL fan, it was a good way for me to stay interested in the games throughout the season. All that said, I'll throw in $10 to be spent during the Steam Holiday Sale this year. If a winner has yet to be decided by that point, whoever ends up winning can choose to collect their prize whenever they want.

How do I know which teams I've used?

After the first week I'll link to a googledoc that will have a table that covers all participants and which teams they've used. I'll also try to include the information here in this post if the formatting will allow it.

What's the schedule going to be?

Every Tuesday during the season (or Monday if we have nobody waiting on the results on the Monday night game) I'll add a post to this thread that has the week's matchups and (hopefully) a table that displays which people can use which teams. All you have to do is post or PM me your choice prior to the first game starting. So for the first week of the season, anyone who wants to play will need to get their choice in prior to the start of the Wednesday night game (8:30pm ET).

Anything else?

Good luck and have fun. Also, don't try to get cute early in the season. The safest strategy every time I've played has been to go with the really bad teams first and then worrying about picking a decent one when you don't have any other choice.

On that note, I shall pick the San Francisco 49ers for week 1.

Put me down for the Rams.

Dolphins.

Sounds like fun. I'll choose the Chiefs.

I'll go with the Browns.

Redskins

I'm going to go big also and say 49ers

Dolphins for me.

So tempted to pick the Titans...but the fan boy in me can't do it.

I'll take the Bengals

I'll take the colts.

Obviously this should be the 2012 NFL Losers Pool. That's what happens when you type something up after playing around with Madden 13.

I was also tempted by the 49ers. I think they're the best team in the division, but if I'm going to pick them at some point, on the road at Green Bay is as good of a time as any. That said, I'm going to go with the Rams this week.

Going with the Dallas Cowboys. Super Bowl Champions have not lost the 1st game of the season since they started giving them home games to start the season on Thursday Night Football. Then again, this will be played on a Wednesday, but I'm going no guts, no glory.

Kush's Week 1 Pick: The Dallas Cowboys

Going with an upset here give me Green Bay

I'll take Miami.

Dolphins for me

Gimme the rams.

I'm taking the Titans, and for once it's not even out of hatred.

I will take the Titans as well. They're a fine team but they usually take till mid-season to get going and I think the Patriots will be angry.

San Francisco 49ers

Dolphins

Colts

I'll take the Colts.

The Buccaneers

Eh, as long as Brees is healthy any thing else is a non issue.

Don't get me wrong. I think the Saints might be a great team this year, but the fact that their entire coaching staff is out on suspension and half their defense won't play the first 8 games makes me very nervous about starting them to win on the first game of an elimination league. The skins will be lucky to win 8 games this year, but this one looks like one they might actually pull off.

I'll take the Titans this week.

With about 24 hours to go until the season kicks off, the first week is shaping up as follows:

Dolphins : 5 picks
Colts : 4 picks
49ers : 3 picks
Rams : 3 picks
Titans : 3 picks
Bengals : 2 picks
Browns, Cowboys, Packers, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Redskins : 1 pick each

Pretty well spread out group for this week. If the Dolphins were to somehow manage to win on the road in Houston, that'd only knock out ~20% of the people.
