Android Games Catch-All

Bean's Quest ($2)

A challenging platformer where you play as a jumping bean. Very mario-esque but with the twist that you are always jumping and can only control the "left" & "right." Although I did beat it in 3 days, I'm now going back to succeed in each level: In a Par number of jumps, by collecting all the jewels, and saving each of the axolotl. 'Tis quite a bit of fun.

The latest android humble bundle is up: http://www.humblebundle.com/

Includes: FieldRunners, BIT.TRIP BEAT, SpaceChem, Uplink. Also Spirits if you pay more than average.

Note that Spacechem and Uplink are for tablets

Well, there is that too.

I haven't played Uplink on my Transformer Prime yet but SpaceChem has been eating my brain for quite some time.

On a side note it looks like PlaidHat will have Summoner Wars for Android to try at Gen Con. I'll report back after this weekend.

So Jetpack Joyride is out for the Amazon App Store, I didn't see it on the Google Play store. I am not in the know enough to be able to say if that is some deal Amazon has or if my search didn't work.

I have played a lot of JPJR on my wife's iphone and it is quite good on that. I am at work so I can't try it out on my own phone yet, but I thought I would give a heads up.

Jetpack Joyride is free to play and has micro transactions. Although you can easily play without buying a single thing and have fun!

Definitely going to check it out when I get home. (Needs Wi-Fi to download)

Question:

Is Dead Space for the Android phone worth the $7 price tag?

So UniWar HD is the FaotD at Amazon. Normally $5 on the market, and pretty stellar reviews both places.

Thanks for the heads up! Can't wait to grab this one.

Nooooo! The one day I don't check!!

There's a discussion on Amazon that you can subscribe to and you'll receive a daily email that will show the day's free app. It's called something like free daily deal Android.

Eternity Warriors 2 came out recently and it's decent for hacking your way through dungeon levels; but it feels like they ramp things up in an attempt to force you to either grind through lower levels or fork over cash. It's one of those cases where I'd rather pay a couple bucks up front instead of being nickle and dimed.

Also @amazonappstore on Twitter.

To my European friends with Android devices. Your day has arrived.

The Amazon Appstore is now available.

Original Angry Birds free app on Amazon today.

Yeah, because that hasn't been freely available in Europe for the last 2 years.

Well it is the ad-free version, that's usually 99 cents. But go ahead and be grumpy.

There are always new people getting phones and I'm sure they appreciate free stuff.

A friend of mine worked on this game:

Review

As soon as I have a Nexus 7 I'll probably give it a try.

Sure I just expected something a little more new/impactful on their launch day.

Free app a day sounds nice to us. But if it is the same as before, then the coders of the program are hurting for it.
Won't see one cent of the sales.

I forget the exact amount, but Amazon pays out something like 10% of retail cost for giveaway apps.

No they don't.

That article is from a year ago, so it is very possible that Amazon's policy has changed.

Yes they do, the policy has changed as of the last few months

Q: What are the most recent changes to the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Agreement?
We recently announced two significant changes to the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Agreement. First, building on the success of the April In-App Purchasing launch, and to simplify our global terms, Amazon is aligning the revenue share for paid apps with that for in-app products sold using Amazon's In-App Purchasing Service. As of July 1, developers earn 70 percent of list price on each paid app sale. This is a change from the prior terms under which developers earned either 70 percent of the app's sales price or 20 percent of list price (whichever was greater). To put it differently, developers now receive 70% of the list price for all sales, regardless of whether you monetize your apps upfront as paid apps or downstream using our In-App Purchasing Service.

Second, the terms of the agreement have been adapted to provide even more flexibility around timing for of app submissions. Developers can now better control which apps they will make available to Amazon customers, and when. Developers can review the full Amazon Mobile App Distribution Agreement, including the two changes described above.

Actually the above doesn't say anything *directly* about giveaways, but if you're EA, you'll probably work out a deal somewhere along the line.

I don't mean to imply that you didn't read the article I linked but the writer said,

"...Publicly their terms say that they pay developers 20% of the asking price of an app, even when they give it away free...if our public agreement was in place, but we can now confirm that thanks to Amazon’s secret back-door deals, we made $0 on that day. That’s right, over 100,000 apps given away, $0 made...public perception that Amazon pays developers to be featured. Every single person we asked on Twitter or via email thought they were helping developers out, and getting a free application. Amazon does nothing to dispel these rumours, in fact they put really restrictive clauses at the bottom of their emails, saying that no one is even allowed to discuss these back door deals they are doing..."

Until Amazon or a developer confimrs clearly that Amazon pays developers when we give away their app I will continue to assume they don't.

Recommending a game called Hero Mages. It's a fun turn based strategy game with a heavy D&D flavor. Has a cool single player campaign/tutorial and they just released async multiplayer.

Just released: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sega.twbshogun Shogun: Total War for android.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty cool from the page.

I've been playing Cthulhu: The Wasted Land and am enjoying it. I wish the interface was more touch friendly but its adequate.

I can't believe that doesn't work on the Nexus 7. That's pretty screwy.
