The Secret World

Anyone in a Templar cabal that does regular dungeon runs? I haven't had much luck the last couple days trying to get PUGs for elite dungeon. Only one even got started and that stalled out on the 2nd boss. And since I haven't finished an elite dungeon yet I can't even touch a nightmare mode.

Well I've been on all day. If we join we can get a pug together to try one. I just spent a couple of hours in the Facility with a newer group. I was doing 60% of the group damage and the tank was doing 15%

Needless to say it was quite challenging.

Plus I have not done the 7th yet.

Enablers. That is all.

I would have paid 25 bucks for the intro and the tutorial. I find it crazy this game didn't even hit my radar.

Also, great Neuromancer reference in the tutorial.

Yeah I think their marketing strategy was a bit off.

So I finally got through Blue Mountain last night. Yeah, I know, the rest of you are in Transylvania already. I've been summoned back to New York to meet with KG who I assume will point me to Egypt. Just got a few open quests I want to finish (most of the Wabanaki stuff and the Orachi one for the CDC) and I'll be done. Anyone up for running Darkness War later this week? It's one of the handful I've got left.

Meanwhile, question for anyone who has finished Dawning of the Endless Night. (Spoilering to be safe)

Spoiler:

Did anyone take the "gift" at the end of the tier? I didn't, it reeked of a trap to me so I just jumped off the edge. Does anyone know what happens or what you get when you take it?

And was anyone surprised by Cassie showing up? Yeah, me neither.

Nope, I am still the slowest gamer on earth. Just got done with Kingsmouth...

Responding to your question:

Spoiler:

Quite a few folks in my cabal assumed there would be an option if they clicked on the gift but there wasn't. Not happy about that. I didn't want to take the gift and also didn't see the NPC run off so had to wing it. Jumped off the edge and bingo. And yeah, no surprise about Cassie though Beaumont turned into a wuss for all his earlier badassery. Very cool thread out on the forums in the Lore section about Beaumont and the story.

I didn't see the guy go off the cliff (was talking to my son about the view) and so I figured there'd be a choice after the click. Sucks to be me.

Recently discovered how important proper gearing it. Trying to run a DPS build with healing gear? Not recommended...

Think it might be time for me to step away for a bit. Seem to have hit the standard MMO end-game wall. The basic setup is you have normal dungeons (everything through Solomon Island and Egypt, basically under Q10), elite dungeons (everything in Transylvania, Q10) and the nightmare dungeons (redo's of the early dungeons with new mechanics and they drop some purples and tokens to buy purples). To access the nightmare dungeons you have to, from what I've read, complete at least 1 elite dungeon and then defeat a solo boss in the agartha.

Since they don't have a dungeon finder the most activity for finding groups is in the LFG channel in the Agartha. I've been trying to find an elite group as a healer for days with my only luck being a failed attempt on 1 dungeon that ended on the second boss. The rest of the time I've getting either overlooked or I don't meet a group leader's stat check. My healer gear consists of Q10 stuff with a couple blues and the rest greens and my heal rating is somewhere around 450 (going from memory here). A lot of these groups are demanding minimum ratings in the 2-3k range for primary stats. I might be able to get into that low range if I got all blues but I can't find the blues without running the dungeons. For the nightmare dungeons I've seen groups asking for 4500 range on stats with all of the standard "must know the dungeons", "no newbs" disclaimers.

So once again, as with most MMO's, I seem to have the choice of either drifting away for a while or finding a guild that runs end game content. Without that the only reason I would have to stick around would be to grind away at PvP, which I don't find that interesting in SW, to get the tokens needed for purple gear or re-run story missions to gain more AP and unlock new skills and decks. Without repeating content I finished the story missions with a little over 41% of my skills unlocked so I'm not sure how I'd feel about that much grinding of old content.

Don't give up Kehama, I'm in a similar situation. I am QL10 and I have yet to go through an Elite dungeon.

I think one of the issues is that a lot of Goodjers playing this are casual and not in full QL10 yet and the whole faction thing has prevented us from having a successful cabal so communication is not that good.

WE NEED TO SET UP A REGULAR DUNGEON GROUP CHOCK FULL O' GOODJER GOODNESS!

I know this is a frustration of mine as well because frankly the LFG in Agartha is terrible. A bunch of elitists who care waaaay to much about how awesome they are and not nearly enough about having fun.

The other issue with me is that I haven't really run any of the normal dungeons so pugging an elite would be asking for abuse unless I'm lucky enough to find a group without assholes in it.

So I very much want to get a newbie elite dungeon group together. The difficult part is getting it together and communicating things with the lack of a guild to bind us together.

When are you usually playing Kehama? Two of us is already 40% of a group.

I will gladly run elites with you all as a DPS. My gaming time is sporadic though and usually more likely in the daytime

Just needed to share this...

(And he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids!)

Hehehehehe. That's fantastic!

The 2 to 3k stuff is for nightmare dungeons. The Facility Is the first elite (no normal) mode Dungeon. Just sit in transylvania and watch chat and you can get in.

Facilty with mistly ql10 stuff is fine. Some tough fights in there though.

The only elite I've even been into so far was the Slaughterhouse. I usually pop in and out through the evening but can sit down and actually run a dungeon around 8:30 central time during the week.

Yeah I'm done with this after the first month. I'm not super far in, but I'm not paying a monthly fee to play what so far is a really nice single player game.

GW2 is coming, and I don't see my self looking back. Probably return when it's F2p.

Server transfers are now being sold in the in-game store for 2400 points ($20). Considering all the cross-server functionality in the game it sort of seems like a waste of money.

I'm playing through very casually. I'll be up for running elite dungeons when i hit QL10 but it may take a couple months.

One thing is they will be adding a LFG tool coming in the big 1.2 patch at end of the month.

Exactly my pace and plan.

As Ghadmar mentioned last week, The Gryphon Division has reopened its doors for recruiting if a Goodjer is looking for a Templar cabal. It's a good group of friendly, mature folks. Check out the website and fill out an app if you're inclined.

I'm having more fun with the stories and the challenges of each encounter. Granted, I'm old school, but the journey is the thing, for me.

I just figured out how to use my Wu build. It's interesting - it's like a flamethrower. I just hack things down until my tank runs out (ie, my health drops far enough), then I just fall over. There's no in-between. I'm a badass and then either the encounter is over, or I'm standing the yellow light again.

Quick note that the patch 1.2 has been delayed by two weeks, to September 11. I suspect it'll be out without further delay at that point.

Funcom has released a financial report with plenty of information about how The Secret World is doing. The important new stuff, at least by my reading, is that Funcom sold over 200,000 copies of the game and TSW is "cash flow positive." The also state that they will continue to invest in the game and that core development of TSW is a high priority.

Though of course every news piece I've seen on this today has been doom and gloom, but I'm optimistic given the strong player retention and good word of mouth. I don't think it will break any records, but I suspect that TSW will be quietly profitable.

Tannhausered! For reals!

Yeah, this is depressing, in that the game will likely expand in smaller and less ambitious ways than it was planned to do. I really thought they had something here. I've been choosing it over GW2, actually - it's just more my type of game.

I guess I'm an oddball among gamers, statistically. I like the game a lot. At least, if it's profitable, it won't die. But I'm worried that Funcom seem to have planned a few years out based on the success of TSW, and with all the layoffs, it seems like they will need to contract to continue on.

Ya people see that 200k number and freak out that its not millions or close to it. Like i've mentioned before their handling of this game has boggled me. It's almost like they purposely placed themselves to have low numbers. Which makes no sense.
