FF2012: Official GWJFFL 2012 signup and discussion thread

Maps and registration/team log are updated with team names. You're welcome to change your team name any time you like but those documents won't be updated any more this season.

Division alignment confirmed/fixed on Fleaflicker. The only question here is in Dynasty. I let y'all slot yourself where you wanted and left it that way. Do you want me to realign by geography like the others or no? I've posted in the league message board on Fleaflicker so that we don't need to clutter up this thread with that specific discussion. (There's also another one over there that you should check out as well.)

Finally, draft order is set. As a completely new league, Dynasty's order was randomly generated by Fleaflicker. Since Keeper had no turnover, I had to do nothing and draft order is the inverse of 2011's final standings as is our way. Along those lines, I've set the draft order in the "metallic" leagues based on the same inverse order of 2011 standings. Obviously, first place in Silver is "lower" than last place in Gold so that's what you'll see in the orderings. As we do every year, we have some new players entering the heirarchy at the bottom (which is Silver this year) so the draft order there is a combination of 2011 standings (for the 5 returning players) and the random number originally assigned by Fleaflicker when the league reached capacity.

--------

FSeven, you need to let me know ASAP if you're dropping from the Dynasty league. As you can see here, the night of 9/1 is the night that is acceptable for the most people.

IMAGE(http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5657/2012gwjfflddraft.gif)

The only other times with only 1 dot are 9/2 at 9 central (which is 10 eastern and really quite late to be starting a draft not to mention already assigned to Platinum) and 9/3 at 7 central. I'm willing to move the draft to the latter but, unlike the large swath on 9/1 that made it a natural choice, 9/3 only has that one slot.

I'll run a new poll for Dynasty and, assuming there's enough participation, we'll see what the results say. Check the Fleaflicker board for a link.

Whoa first pick. Now I actually have to do some research. I can't use "so and so took my guy" as an excuse for screwing up. :D

Division opponents again as well. Should be fun!

I cant start a draft at 10pm EST on a Sunday night. I am amazed i selected that time as ok. No biggie though, I will just make sure my auto draft is the way i want.

The Platinum draft starts at 9pm Eastern. (Edit: And the next day is Labor Day which is a holiday for many.) I believe you did indicate that was acceptable (9, not 10). Please remember that 9pm Eastern is only 6pm Pacific and that most leagues have across at least 3 time zones and usually 4.

For the record, the only group that actually achieved 100% consensus on a particular time this year was Gold. (Of course, they're the only group that had only 10 people vote.) The point is that (except for in Gold) there were no times in any league that worked for everyone. I simply can not accomodate everyone. I simply have to look at which times are marked good for the most people and make a choice.

In Platinum, there were 5 slots that worked for 10/12 people (they were all at 9e/8c on different nights and none worked for 11) that I then had to evaluate and consider against the needs of the other leagues and make an executive decision.

--------

Here's Silver's map. About to verify division alignment and draft orders.

No need to reschedule the draft on my account since it's the chosen time for the majority of people.

I'll just drop from the Dynasty league.

Since we have a couple days, I'd rather try to reschedule than to find a 12th team at the 11th hour. If you can find someone to replace you, though, I'd have no hard feelings about goind that route as well.

Edit: We're up to 7 already. Good job, folks. Hopefully, we can get this issue put to bed by tomorrow night.

Edit2: 8. Bumping this so the folks who only read at work can see it. If you're in Dynasty, please check out and vote in the new whenisgood.net poll. Thanks.

GWJFFLK: Keepers lock in a little under 14 hours. Please log in to ESPN and register your desires so I can set salaries accordingly.

GWJFFLS: Your draft is about 24 hours away. Polish up those cheat sheets.

GWJFFLD: Still waiting on 2 more people to vote in the refined draft date poll. Thanks to those who responded so quickly. If we end up sticking with the 9/1 draft date, and FSeven decides he doesn't want to multi-task, I'll step in and draft for him. He can then decide whether he wants to move forward with that roster or drop from the league and I'll run the team for at least the first year.

Im on vaca in vermont, but super hopeful i can at least be in person for the first 2 hours.

He's juicing with maple syrup!
Damn New England.

I want to keep 5 kickers on my team. Make it happen.

Good idea, especially for QBs.

GWJFFLD: Please note that the maximum roster size has been reduced from 25 to 23. Adjust your plans accordingly.

Additionally, in order to reduce the potential for hoarding, the individual positions have tighter maximums than in the other leagues.

Position Start Min Max QB 1 1 3 RB 2 2 7 WR 3 3 10 TE 1 1 4 RB/WR/TE 1 K 1 1 3 TM 1 1 3 IR 3 Total 10 9 23 (+3)

The logic here is "Max = 3x Start and 1 extra for the flex positions." Please let me know if you have any concerns. I am willing to make adjustments. Thanks.

Is there going to be a vent server like last year for this? Or, is the voice chat going to be done some other way this year? (I swear I saw a mention of a G+ Hangout somewhere in the thread.)

I'll be in vent if other people are in vent (the Alien Swarm channel is always free). I don't have a Google Plus account and I'm not making one just for fantasy football.

I can't see the Alien Swarm channel. For me the first server available is Awesomenauts.

Looks good to me.

Probably the wrong place to bring this up, but what the hell: I assume that anyone picked up off waivers during the season is eligible to be kept "forever", correct? If so, I would like to make a motion that anyone picked up after the draft would, instead, be put back into the draft pool the next year. I understand that teams out of the playoff chase would probably like to start picking up young players to build for next year, but I'd rather reward owners that do great research before the season then an owner who may get "lucky" grabbing a guy during the season when other owners may have been occupied during a particular week. Plus, it would make next years draft a little stronger then it otherwise would have been.

Dynasty keeper rules will be very generous but I'd best describe them as somewhere between GWJFFLK rules and "forever."

Getting good players on the waiver wire takes just as much planning. If you aren't looking at the waiver wire then you are happy with your team so why should it matter?

Also, injuries on a team can dictate mid season waiver wire action. One year I had 5 starting RBs go down!

So it turns out I rushed home for no good reason tonight. I can't connect to the draft room for Silver but according to what I'm hearing on Ventrilo, it sounds like you guys are in with no problem. I guess I'll check the results at the end.

I threw a total pity pick at a player that I'm pretty sure is retired simply because he went to Minnesota.

So, it will be interesting to see how my picks of Gronk and Hernandez with my first 2 picks turns out for me this year.

I figured you took both with the intention of using Hernandez for trade bait. I should've took Gronk while I could.

Nope. I plan on keeping both.

I made a newb mistake and only picked one Team Defense. I did FF last year but didn't have this snafu. What are my options for somehow getting another or am I out of points for D on that BYE?

Unlimited waiver pickups. Just drop someone, anyone, and pick up a new D for that week.

I never said that it doesn't involve planning, I would rather just reward those owners that have planned ahead as opposed to an owner potentially picking up a player that has a breakout week and be able to keep him "forever". Truthfully, it's not a huge deal, but I figured I would bring it up to see if others are like-minded. Guess not.

I was once part of a league where they cutoff waiver pickups at like, week 10. I actually somehow ended up in the championship game with exactly *0* healthy running backs. That sucked. I can relate, hehe.

My non-GWJ league auto-drafted last night. It waited until round 14 to get me a QB, so Sam Bradford is supposed to lead the way for me this year.

Long story short, I had to remake Platinum. Platinum members should all have invitations to the new Platinum in their inboxes. Feel free to drop from the old Platinum to avoid confusion. Sorry for the slightly extra work.

I got Boogle to delete the old league so all you need to do is re-add.

Are the keeper values in ESPN going to be updated before the draft tonight? A lot of the values are off (for example, many players have a $0 keeper value).

When will we be able to put in claims on players? Our budgets are still $0 so I assume if I claim somebody now it won't stick.

Yes. It's on my list for today but thanks for the reminder.

Hmm. I'll get back to you.

Will the draft order go back to what it was?
