Breaking Bad: "Do it yourself"

You know, that's a damn good point. I don't think I've ever switched on a main character so hard like this. Honestly, it's almost a detriment to the show for my wife and I.

I turned harder on Vic Mackey--Walt's trajectory was at least announced in the show's title, which cushions each blow.

Here's a pretty great interview Sepinwall did with Jonathan "Mike" Banks.

And tangential but related rant: Small Town Security is excruciating! Seriously, what the hell is that thing? Why is it on before my show?

So was this the mid season break? I had totally forgotten about that.

Great interview indeed.
So he got killed off...but I don't think this is the last we've seen of him in the series.
Looked him up on IMDB and it shows him being in more episodes:

Episode #5.10 (1 January 2013) - Mike Ehrmantraut

There's one more episode.

Yeah, for all the talk about The Wire being the best show on television, I think The Shield actually tops it, thanks in large part to the fact that The Shield had the best series ending of all time. That is one thing that Breaking Bad will need to cement it as all-time greats: a perfect ending. So far, they are doing great - I forgot that there was one episode left in this half-season, that would have been a perfect ending for the next year.

I don't watch the show but I thought this rap remix was pretty well done.

*May contain spoilers to the first 2 seasons!*

Still can't believe there is only one more episode this year and then they are going to end it all next year. I can only imagine this next episode to be set up for the most part or reprecusions of what happened in last weeks episode. I was a little worried when this season started at first, just because the big bad was taken out and everything settled down at the end of last season. Now...now I don't know what is going to happen. All I know is this show is the best and most tense show out there...

I Wanna Be Like Mike (Ehrmantraut)

As usual with internet videos, don't watch if you're not caught up.

W.W.

ZOMG!

Oh.

Sh*t.

That last scene had my heart pounding.

I've watched every single episode in the last three weeks (via Netflix for seasons 1-4, the "internet" for season 5). Tonight was my first "live" episode. Just in time to be gut-punched and hit with the "continues next Summer!" line.

EFF YOU, Vince Gilligan. Eff you.

A few thoughts:

Spoiler:

1. the cancer obviously returned, based on Walt's laying the smack-down on the paper towel dispenser...

2. Is he really "out," or was is just another calculated pose?

3. will the series really end with Walt or Hank killing each other?

4. What did people make of the opening scene from season 5, with Walt fully coiffed and buying an M-60?

Spoiler:

1. I took that to be the same dispenser from the first time, they just never fixed it. Could be wront.

2. Hard to tell. I think he knows Sky needs to think he's out. I think his pride and arrogance might keep him from actually getting out.

3. I've got my money on Hank or for a long shot Skyler.

4. My guess. Hank gets the scent. Starts gunning for him. Walt has to bug out of New Mexico and go on the run.

Huh... forgot about that. You could be right. Although based on what Skyler said to him a few episodes back, I assumed that's what it was. Maybe it's just part of his calculated story...

2. Hard to tell. I think he knows Sky needs to think he's out. I think his pride and arrogance might keep him from actually getting out.

Yeah, that's what we've seen from him so far-- ridiculous pride in his criminal activity, and the need to control his family situation. With her sort of laying down the ultimatum, this might be his chance to either REALLY get out, or to just pretend he's out. I vote for pretending.

3. I've got my money on Hank or for a long shot Skyler.

Well, now that Hank has the Gale connection, it's gotta lead in that direction. Will Walt kill Hank? I think he would if he could get away with it. The ricin has to come into play at some point... in fact, I sort of thought Hank was going to discover the empty tube in the bathroom instead of the book.

4. My guess. Hank gets the scent. Starts gunning for him. Walt has to bug out of New Mexico and go on the run.

I dunno... he seemed to be coming back for something after being away. Like, he had to come back to save his family? Save Jesse from something? That scene didn't seem like he was going on the run.

I assumed the bug out was what was leading up to the opening scene. The scene shows him on his way back for reasons unknown. There's no doubt he's headed back to do some kind of heavy damage

Almost literally.

Regarding 3:

Spoiler:

It's gotta be Jesse. Walt has been the architect of so much woe in Jesse's life, it seems inevitable Jesse will rise up and destroy him.

Only if...

.

Spoiler:

..he found out about Jane or Brock. Otherwise, I don't know if I can see it.

I think one of those will come to light, if not both.

Spoiler:

The violence portrayed in this episode was horrific. Nothing can justify what I will refer to here on out as Los Diez Asesinatos.

That being said, I want the soundtrack for this season soooooo bad!

Spoiler:

Don't know about the rest, but if Mike's lawyer gave up Kaylee's money he deserved everything he got.

The directing has been really stellar this season, among the best on television. Like the Crystal Blue Persuasion montage, especially the preceding cut.

Spoiler:

I initially thought that there's no way Walt will be out, really.

But the reveal with Hank has me wondering. Maybe now he really is out, and Hank is going to come after him now anyway?

The irony of that would be amazing.

Loved this episode. The montage was great and the dread that permeated that otherwise idyllic last sequence.

I can't believe they are making us wait a year for the final 8.

I love this animated GIF from last night's episode.

Remember more innocent times.

Wow, just watched the final episode. The waiting will be painful.

I think that episode would actually have been a genius close to the entire series (even with the cold opening to the first episode).

Spoiler:

I'm tending to think that maybe Walt really wants out. It's possible the content of this episode's surprisingly nostalgic conversation between Walt and Jesse convinced Walt that the only thing keeping him on his current path was inertia. Couple that with the fact that he has more than enough money to pay Jesse everything he's owed and still retire handsomely, not to mention either a cancer remission or at the very least the scare of one, and he could very well be in a state of mind to get out while the getting's good.

Of course, given the history of this show, it's far more likely the next episode will open with Walt enjoying a breakfast shake made from newborn kittens and childhood dreams.
