Spoiler:

Name: OK Chat -- Not OK: "GET THE f*ckING CAVERN SCUTTER ENERGIES YOU f*ckASSES."

Spoiler Alert for ArenaNet's response as it's NSFW. It's really funny though so worth reading if nobody who can fire you is looking over your shoulder

Maybe they feel that way but it's not how I play MMO's. I'm only lvl 14 and I already feel like I've gotten my money's worth of content and fun. It's quickly become my GotY.

Something I wonder about the offensive chat is how much it applies to public channels (where I'd say a suspension is fair game) or private channels like a guild, where I can see that members of that chat channel are on the same page won't find it offensive. I guess it comes down to context, and also if anyone reports it.

Yeah there seems to be quite a lot of hacking going on. I'd better enable email authentication as soon as things settle down.

There was a bit of a tempest in a teapot earlier on some community sites about the supposedly overzealous banning of people with offensive/copyrighted character names. Today the ArenaNet support team went to reddit (nsfw language) and challenged players to post their character names if they thought they were unfairly banned.

Now beside the obvious schadenfreude going on in there, there seems to be quite a lot of people who were in fact not banned because of misbehaviour, but instead had their accounts hacked and were banned because of the resulting RMT shenanigans.

Got my first "Someone tried to reset your password" email from ArenaNet. I figure that I'll tighten up my Email and GW2 passwords even though they aren't terribly easy to guess right now.

Got the same thing last night. I changed my GW2 password from my usual just before early access. All the WoW hacking stories over the years made me thankfully cautious.

This is more than a little comforting. In response to,

"Do people really get banned when they are reported by 3 players? Or is that just a rumor":

Doesn't bode well for powergamers maybe.... bodes just fine for everyone else (the vast vast majority)

Last night went much more smoothly for me on my thief. Moving more and a better use of my skills helped a lot. Also, mapping all skills to the number pad works much better for me. Must be getting old but my hand would kill me using the typical MMO control scheme.

I've got an Asura Engineer. If you have any questions about rolling an engineer, let me know. There are lots of different kits...it can be overwhelming.

I'll probably have Engineer questions along the line.. I got sucked into playing after I made my last character and never touched the Asura last night

Found an answer to my question in the reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c...

It's not likely that you would be blocked for private channel chat unless someone in the chat reported you. I'm not saying "It's no problem" but I feel it's less likely that you'd be blocked for that sort of chat.

I've been on media blackout about Guild Wars 2, including skipping this thread. Now that it's finally downloaded, I'm actually super excited. Then again, getting my smuggler killed on Taris while trying to get infected by rakghouls for an hour in TOR kind of helped the "seeking better options" thoughtstream.

I played the original GW back in the day, but stopped relatively quickly after getting sucked into the WoW vortex.

So what server are we all hopping on?

There is an exploit in gendarran fields where people are levelling up essentially afk. I expect it to be fixed.

Hmm... I wonder what the point in cheating your way to lvl 80 is. I mean the PVP stuff already does this for you so the only thing you're really doing is ruining content for yourself. Strange.

The only thing I can see is getting access to all areas, or rather being on parity with the monsters quicker. Even so, I think if I concentrated on one character rather than messing around I might have a high level character through normal play by now. By 30 you can have at least one of every skill you want, and after that it's just trait points that remain.

Well since its an event being famed they also get infinite karma....

In addition....

" @GuildWars2: Currently our teams are working to bring the trading post back into business. We will keep you up to date on this issue. Thanks ^DO"

We are on Northern Shiverpeaks.

Here is the form to get your invite. We are keeping a spreadsheet to make it easier to keep track of invite requests.

According to an article at Time magazine's Techland page, GW2 set an MMO launch record with over 400,000 concurrent log ins.
I wonder how many more people will pick the game up today?

Wow, that reddit thread is awesome!

Apparently that's double what The Secret World sold. I have to wonder what this will look like by the first weekend.

So years ago, someone, somewhere, stole / hacked my Guild Wars 1 account.

This morning, I got a password reset request to *my* email address for Guild Wars 2.

So, I went to the site, did a fresh reset request (they have a short duration, I do believe), and was able to get into a Guild Wars 2 account that was created and linked to my original Guild Wars account. Both of these accounts still rocking my gmail address.

I put a very strong™ password on it, and changed the email address for the account. I'm also trying to get back into my master NCSoft account that I got locked out of around the same time, having send serial #s, etc, to support via their Support feature.

I also grabbed the Guild Wars 1 client, and was able to login using the new account email and password I put together, and I even knew the name of one of the characters that I had (that they never deleted).

In short: stolen account, email not changed after years, accounts for games linked, and the level 20 gw1 character I had was not deleted.

We'll see how this goes...

edit: Oh and I forgot to add that the guardian's water skills (trident) make me want to fight in the water pretty much full time. I almost wish you could do that and I hope Arena Net expands on it as the months go by.

I'm glad someone else mentioned it. I really hope they do a full on water expansion pack.

One of the zones around Orr is supposed to be 2/3 underwater.

Did mooosicle get his deleted toon back?

So it is funny that I said guardian or warrior would be my main. So my first character was a warrior and I had a blast playing her up to level 7 before testing out alts.

The funny thing is I got this wild hair to create characters of the ranger and engineer which were 2 of the 3 classes I was going to skip. The engineer didn't hold my interest but I looked online for ranger pet locations. I was determined to test out a bird (raven, owl or eagle) and a spider or a lashtail. So I navigated the horrendous Black Citadel to grab a lashtail and ended up having a blast with my ranger.

This game just does that to you. You spend some time away from it, (sleep/work) and the one thing you don't have, you want the most. I went out to dinner last night and came home determined to delete my necro in order to make a guardian. And it is just crazy how you can have fun distractions in this game but the class that you love hits you on another level.

I cannot find a weapon combination for the guardian that was not distinct and amazing:

The scepter blasts from range and has a targeted pummel from the sky aoe blast.
The greatsword chops foes in half, shoots white slashes randomly and has a symbol that grants retaliation while putting the holy burnin on.
The mace heals the group on the 3rd combo hit has a regen/damage symbol and gives your allies a knockback if they are struck.
The hammer has all sorts of slams and punts with a lined root.
The staff has all kinds of support.

I fear that we are in the minority. I think there is some frustration with the water combat, especially with melee combat and the water monsters tendency to swim erratically and become difficult to target for more than a hit or 2. The z-axis adds complexity to combat where it can be difficult to tell where you are getting hit from in places with fast respawning.

But I think all of this can be worked out and there are ways to ease people in to water combat. Making melee hit radii larger would be a simpler fix, as would slowing down some of the swim speeds of enemies to less than PC swim speed and making some of the enemies stationary like the sand worms.

Bigger, outside the box, developments would be things like what I've dubbed "dark water". You can lore it up any way you want but it would be like changing the density of the water such that it works more like %50 gravity instead of zero gravity. I.E. if you aren't moving, you sink at a slow, medium or faster rate.

I'd also like to see water "currents" as a sort of fast travel system or in combination with the simple puzzles like the ones used in vistas. Or perhaps even some sort of racing mini-game.

This is probably a dumb question, with GW2 being a an MMO and all, but can the game be played with a controller?

Lunch break success!!! Installing now and *ahem* seem to be coming down with a bit *ahem* of a tickle in the throat *cough* and am suddenly very lethargic. As in, just holding a phone up to my ear is work and staring at email brings heavy eyelids.

Might have a touch of fever, too.

Pet locations

This isn't a complete list but is a good start. I think the pet I found yesterday isn't on there. I can't remember now what it is though...Some kind of cat found in Sylvari land.

We should put some of these guides in the OP.

Actually this one looks good too

Oh my, you had better get home right away and tuck yourself into a nice comfy desk charir with a blanket wrapped around you and your mouse tied to your hand since you are clearly too weak to hold it.
