The Darksiders 2® Catch-All

I'm trying not to spoil myself but I had a few questions that hopefully someone can answer:

1. Is the only use of the Vulgrim coins to buy random magic items? If so, is it like gambling in Diablo II where you might get a great item, and you might get crap?

2. So there are a fair bit of collectables in the game. I notice that chests, when found, show up on the map. Will any of the other collectables start showing up on the map, or are there other in-game ways that help find them without scouring every location? Also, please tell me if any of them are missable, because I missed one chest in The Foundry in an area I can't get back to, and it drove me bonkers.

Thanks!

Yay... I just hit a event scripting bug and I can not continue the game! I have not seen those since TES: Oblivion.
So now I either wait for a patch... or ignore everything I did in the past 30hours and start over. F**k!

Does any one else have issues with this game on x360? So far it locked up my console 10 times, sound would cut out in cinimatic and game play, subtitles would not display once in a while during cinimatic, events would not trigger... which to be fair usually fixed by Fast Travel.

Arh! I still like the game.

I've had it lock up once so far. I also found it odd that I was able to fast travel to a location I was clearly supposed to walk to. It seemed to affect the story a little bit, as I couldn't get a quest to trigger properly until I went back and triggered the original method.

I've had one lock-up and a cutscene with no sound or subtitles, and I couldn't trigger an event once without a reload.

I've made a copy of the save in the Xbox Live cloud, in the hopes that I can use it if my save gets corrupted. I think they made a bad choice in not letting users create additional save files. I've put 20-some hours into it now and I'm not sure I could deal with starting all over. I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, but I don't think I could repeat the first 20 hours of any game, at least not without a long stretch of time in between.

It's been one of the few games where I find the music stuck in my head after the console has been off for a while. And while I'm not really into its gloomy machismo, I like the variety and pacing. I hope it does well for THQ.

WTF... PC patch for Darksiders 2? What's wrong with them? Don't they realize that console ports never get patches?

Skimmed the last few pages as much as possible, and even resisted the spoiler tags.

First impressions on this are luke warm so far.

I start up the game, I'm prompted for a code, I'm prompted to join online, I'm sent an email, contains loot. I click the link, then head back to my 360 to enter another 2x25 letter string codes. I then (finally) start the game. I wander around a cold looking and feeling castle, then have an interaction with a character I have nothing invested in...

I don't know. I'm hoping it picks up the pace a little. Maybe I spoilt myself going back and playing DS1 before this arrived. Hit start, and BOOM, you're slap bang in the middle of demon/angel meteors falling from the sky, fighting giant demons, and hurling buses and cars at people.

To add insult to injury, the game also froze on me, just before a save point (found out in hind sight).

I tried this the day it came out, on the 360, and it gets stuck at the very first ledge cling spot about 2 minutes in. Death tries to jump over the ledge he's hanging on and he does this floating in air stuck on a rail frozen animation and will never go over the ledge. I've tried it a dozen times and on two different 360's. Sigh.

I got that myself, but he managed to break free. I didn't realize it was such a global issue. I thought I had tried doing something wrong.

You CAN break free if you move around and give it a minute. I think. I managed to break free.

Dozens of people have tried and spent, literally, hours trying to get over it. I set it up at work and let people wander by and give it a shot. When I say I tried it a dozen times, I meant restarting and deleting save data, sorry.

What keeps coming back to me is how much Darksiders feels like a spiritual successor to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, one of my absolute favorite titles from the Dreamcast era.

This was a heavy contributor to me buying it (never played the first Darksiders).
My current bad habit is referring to the game as Darkstalkers.

Every time someone says Darkness II I think they're talking about Darksiders 2.

BTW, who are those guys? I thought the only two characters in Darkstalkers were Felicia and Morrigan.

I take it all back. It is now 1am, I started playing at 8.30pm. Haven't had that kind of experience in a while with a game.

I went back and started fresh, no preconceptions, just enjoying 'Death'.

I knew I was in for a treat when...

Spoiler:

I explored that whole cave/cavern in the watery crag(?) on the way to the first objective. I backed out of fighting the tree dude at the very bottom as I was only level 2, and woefully under armed. I intend paying him a visit now I have fired up the Cauldron, and I'm close to the top end of Level 4.

Great game. Glad I bought it, and glad I went back and started playing it again.

Colour me happy.

That's how it happened to me. I was actually just on the verge of killing the game and dropping back to the dashboard when I broke free from being stuck.

How the f*ck did that make it past QA?

Also ditto to this. That spoilered bit was the point at which I knew I was definitely the target audience for the game.

There's so much variation in hardware that they can't possibly test every conceivable combination?

Oh, wait, it's an xbox... [eyeroll]

I exchanged my copy for another, does the same thing, on two different xbox's, 4 people trying it... I give up.

Any one bought the Season Pass, is it worth it, and will the outfit 'spoil' the challenge if worn?

At 1600 for only two pieces of DLC, I'm guessing the DLC will come out at 1200? If it's only going to be 800, is it worth it just for said outfit?

Nobody can say until the DLC details are more concrete. The game seems plenty tough with any gear, but I am playing on hard so that may be why.

In any case, I got the season pass free with my preorder. I don't think I'd drop $20 at this point.

When you put it that way, it's a hell of a lot to put on a promise from a dev publisher that may or may not be around to deliver on it. Thanks for that. Argul's Tomb will keep me happy when it arrives (all that was available in my pre-order) and I'll keep an ear out for more info.

I think the unlikely possibility of THQ shutting down within three months shouldn't stop you. But the season pass isn't going anywhere, and if the DLC gets rave reviews you can still buy it then. Preorder armor/weapon nonsense is never worth real money in any game, I only mess with it if I can break even on the deal.

Well, this is a sad statement. Darksiders II was the best selling PC game in August (based on NPD guessmatronic calculations), but it sold less than 250,000 units.

Blues News wrote:

GamesIndustry International has the NPD Group's estimate that Darksiders II sold just 247,000 units in the U.S. in August, saying it reflects how weak game sales have been lately that this still managed to place THQ's action/RPG sequel on the top ten bestseller list for the month. They were unable to get a comment on this from THQ, but have a reaction from analyst Micael Pachter who presumes the game has sold about a million units internationally by now, but that he doesn't think the game will be profitable, saying: "my understanding is that breakeven is greater than 2 million units, so it's not likely to get much higher than that."

Fewer. Fewer than 250,000 units.

Kind of nuts that a game has to sell two million copies to even break even. You'd think in a situation like that, no one would ever make anything except for Call of Duty, Rockband and... oh.

That's on PC, though. I'd be curious to see how it also did on Xbox and PS3, especially as it's a genre of game that's not particularly known for being big on PC to begin with.

I think it is more telling that the biggest PC game of August sells less than 250,000 units.

No, that's the total for PC, PS3, and 360 at retail. The numbers not included are PC digital, and IIRC Wal-mart sales do not get reported to the NPD.

Remember NPD is retail only and even then not all retail outlets report their numbers to them.

Oh that's f*cking sad.

Now I'm depressed.

Eh, I wouldn't sweat it. That's just the US, and as the article says it's probably moved around a million worldwide. After the holidays, the Wii U release, and the steam sale after Christmas, I think the game'll do alright.

Playing the Crucible: I got passed 25 waves and felt good and told the guy to give me the prize. Walked out feeling like I would get something nice for my troubles and got nothing.

Should have played the price is right horn.
