Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Not me.

Anyone getting more crashes on the new 306.02 driver? I'm getting a ton tonight. I think I'm going back to 305.67

Another awesome thing is, you'll never out level an area, cos they drop your levels down to match the max level for that area. Much much more incentive to hop in events when they come up. I've done some event 3 or more times simply cos it is fun and XP is XP No worries or concerns that I'm not getting full xp cos I'm too high in level or any such pointless worries.

This isn't entirely true as even leveled down you will still chew everything up with nary a thought.

I agree with the "check out lower level areas". I finished up the human 1-15 area and found the next zone was a little more difficult than I wanted. I hit the Charr area and have been destroying stuff out there, LOTS of fun, good xp, and the loot is scaled to your current level. On a level 3 heart quest thing I got an upgrade.

Tried out the Pistol/Dagger at lunch. I liked the skill set. Might go with that and Sword/Pistol as my two set ups. Thanks for the Thief tips.

Yeah the pistol/dagger is like BLAM BLAM BLAM, SLICE "get off me", BLAM BLAM BLAM.

And then there is the "gah, I'm snared", SLICE *poof* "now you see me, now you don't"

The sword/pistol is like SWISH (my teleporting sound), BLINK "Here's Johnny!", BONK SPIN SPIN SPIN "Ha, you're dead!"

I think there is a little difference between another melee AoE dps like the greatsword warrior and a jump-into-the-fray thief like dagger/dagger and sword/pistol. The warrior pretty much always wants to be in the center of the fray. The thief has options. If it is a small group of enemies, then jump right in (inside out). If it is a big group of enemies and you don't have a lot of other dps support, your best bet is to AoE from the edge of the pack. (outside in)

Or maybe a simpler way of putting it is if it is a sustained large group fight don't jump into the middle of the pack. Anything else, and feel free to wreak havoc.

And like was said before, the easiest way to get to other newb areas is via the mists pvp staging area. And I think Spynavy and other posted about how there is a ton of xp just from uncovering all the interest points in the races's major cities.

I think I'm slowly gravitating towards a support/debuff Necromancer. Scepter+Focus gives a decent variety of debuffs, plus a little bit of healing from the bouncing focus attack that gives regen to allies. Well of Blood adds a pretty decent AoE heal. I still love the look of the Necromancer pets, but they seem to die pretty fast so I've been trying out other abilities instead.

It still feels kind of weird to heal people as a Necromancer though

This is especially true in larger battles and PvP. Rangers suffer from a similar problem, but at least they have a skill that can very temporarily make their pets invulnerable. Ultimately though, for larger fights it's probably best not to rely on pets at all.

Has anyone had any experience with the ranger ranged pets? The necro one is very mediocre. I was hoping that the ranger one would be different since they can't have more than one pet at a time.

The necro pets shouldnt be around that long to begin with, except for your range ones and then maybe only twice as long as the others. The others you should (cant remember their names just their abilities after summon) have one lock the target down and then blow the other ones up asap (big damage here). The elite one i would tend to keep in reserve because his knock down ability will help you escape if need be or knock a run away down

In other news, RPS has an early impressions thingy up. It sound quite lovely, except for the zoning as a party mechanic. That sounds horrible. Wonder how that ever made it past the design phase, let alone through implementation and testing. They have made (or played) an MMO before, no?

This is an MMORPG, and RPG's mean you need to do something to gain experience and get more powerful. The only 2 options I can think of are (1) Quests/Objectives (2) Grinding. If there's a 3rd option, I personally can't think of it.

The Quests in GW2 are a departure from the "!" quest givers in other traditional MMO's and a much improved form of WAR's Public quest system. I usually like RPS articles but this one just made me see red.

You misunderstood me. I don't care about the means of leveling, gaining experience or questing. I was talking about the overflow server system.

The overflow system is awesome. I'll take it over sitting in a login queue any day. There are apparently some issues with grouping, but it sounds like they're already working on that. I've spent the majority of my time on overflow servers so far and it hasn't impacted my experience in the slightest.

Fine for me too.

Hey, I'm late to the party - was trying to wait until next week so I missed the early rush but I couldn't wait anymore.

I think I'm definitely going to roll an Asura Engineer and a Charr Thief, but which should I go for Necromancer, Human or Norn?

So... let's say there's someone (probably me) that decided to wait until the last possible moment to consider picking up GW2, where's the best price out there for it?

You can get it at GreenManGaming.com for $48 if you apply the promotional code DERHE-RRDER-RINGE (German for "The Lord of the Rings")

It says out of stock! I was going to buy it for my son!
GRR http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/ca/e...

I got to 100% completion of the Norn starter area last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
If anything I feel too compelled to jump into the events. For instance if I'm in one of the strongholds up north I can't work on tradeskills or manage inventory for even a few minutes before the elite wolf fellow shows up outside of town or the NPC who needs an escort over the hill pops in, and every time I jump in.
I appreciate that whether I want to go exploring, craft, hit another starter area, find a higher level zone, collect vistas and skill points or just participate in all the events I can find, that all are viable for good progression. That really helps to keep the grind down.

I'd be a lot more cool with the overflow system if it only came into play when you first logged in. The fact that you get re-kicked from your server to overflow every time you switch areas is obnoxious. Imagine if you were forced to queue in wow every time you zoned.

As someone who didn't play in any of the beta i'd say my initial impressions are exactly inline with that RPS article posted above.

Just an FYI, I upgraded my NVIDIA drivers to 301.XX from 296.XX and got a huge performance boost in game. It was VERY noticeable on my system.

What the hell am I going to do for 5 minutes while the servers reboot?!

Daydream about what you're going to do when they're back up? Reminisce about the good times you had before they went down?

Oh spit! It happened again! Five minutes!!!!!1111

I've got an Asura Engineer. If you have any questions about rolling an engineer, let me know. There are lots of different kits...it can be overwhelming.

So, we had JUST finished killed the Behemoth in the swamp...the gold chest dropped, and as I ran towards it - BAM...server reboot

It put on quite a bit of extra stress trying to kill him during the five minute countdown!

Bah... I made zero progress tonight yet I played for 4 hours. I spent all that time in the PvP staging area trying out skills and traits trying to find a build I would fall in love with. Maybe tommorrow night I'll actually play the game.

I dunno, I believe I've spent that amount of time just trying out builds in TSW and I consider it playing the game.
Don't worry about it, no sub to put pressure on your game time and the more you learn about how your playstyle and builds work together would just make it better in later on.

I spent the night getting 100% in Black Citadel (wow do I hate how that place is setup, WAY too confusing!) and almost 100% in the Charr starting area. Was able to ding 20 and get both leatherworking and huntsman above 25. Unfortunately the alarm is going to ring sooner than I want it to so must head to bed. Wish I spent my vacation days at work better so I could take an entire week off to play

Also, as a ranger I was originally using a longbow/shortbow alternate weapon setup. I decided to swap out the shortbow for an axe and torch and LOVE it! Running in and setting things on fire is amazing

So saw my first level 70s tonight. That does not bode well when the most hardcore have already hit max level in a weekend.

I thought about a system like that, that they run the 'main' non-overflow server below capacity to let people who've finished queueing into zones with priority, I could see it kind-of working but there's probably too many conditions for it to work well, especially now when the population is all over the place just after launch. I'd like to think they'll tinker with the server population caps after launch when it's settled down.

But unlike other MMOs, it's not as though the world is irrelevant to play through, it continues to be worthwhile to play there.

Got my first "Someone tried to reset your password" email from ArenaNet. I figure that I'll tighten up my Email and GW2 passwords even though they aren't terribly easy to guess right now.
