Left 4 Dead 2 Catch All

It is too early for me. I haven't been getting home until after 10pm PST lately.

A triumphant return.

Rough night tonight. But fun.

Redneck got me the invite right after i posted, i'm in and ready to blast some zombies.

Sorry I haven't answered many invites lately. Unfortunately, my current work schedule (getting up at 5:20 AM) has really crimped my ability to roll with a 2 hour game. Weekends are another matter, so if I'm on and around, please do send me an invite. I might be a little rusty, but I've found I tend to be a bit better at the game when that's the case because I'm not out too far ahead of the group.

Any chance you could invite me to the Steam group?

Sure, just post a link to your Steam ID.

Guys, I played a game of L4D2 tonight and it was fun! Hooray for everybody being rusty!

Great game. It was a blast.

It warms my heart to see this thread live again.

Wait- Left 4 Dead 2 still exists? I have made a huge error in ceasing to play this.

I am online for the rest of the day and would love to play, ping me if you want too! I don't know how groups normally get together.

Okay, I am dragging this back to the surface again. What's the deal, no one loves zombies anymore? You are forcing me to play with bots. I blame all of you. (Well, you are correct. I could play with pubbies. But the bots make better decisions.)

The time commitment is the biggest obstacle for me. My zombie replacement has been Payday: the Heist, where a match only needs 15-20 minutes at most.

Well, I certainly understand that. You are locked in for an hour or more with a vs. match. But that doesn't make me feel any better about a lack of brain munching.

My zombie time has been replaced by baby time and exposing baby to zombies = bad daddy.

I could maybe be persuaded into some Co-Op though.

Oh, I remember baby time. My baby time was eventually replaced with looking over my shoulder/offering advice/don't tell your mother you were watching me shoot zombies time.

I have some free time tomorrow between one and five, if you want to play a round or two. Just let me know when you want to start, I'd be more than happy join you.

Although I have to warn you I'm really out of practice and I've been having trouble getting my mic to work, I'm not quite sure what's up with it, but I've got it working before so I'm sure I can figure it out.

And yet, you exposed your baby to Australia.

I played a bit last night because I just finished watching The Walking Dead season 2 and wanted to shoot zombies. I finally realized the small thing that bugs me with this game. The mechanic for reloading requires you to wait longer than the animation takes. For example, when you reload an Uzi the animation will begin, the magazine will be inserted and the animation will complete but it won't actually be reloaded and you have to wait a half a second before it's complete.

So what will happen is I will reload, switch when the animation is complete to a melee weapon, switch back and will have an empty gun and need to reload again. It's a small thing but I wish the reloading worked like TF2/Counter-Strike.

They did this on purpose to make reloading more significant. Since L4D2 is a surival horror, reloading when a tank is coming after you can be suspensful so they made it whenever you are midway reloading and you do something such as switch weapons or climb a ladder, you start over. The quarter second after is annoying but the more you play, the more you time it so this doesn't happen.

I thoroughly appreciate the offer, but unfortunately time I have for games today doesn't really start until later in the evening. Too much stuff still going on this afternoon, not the least of which was going to my son's soccer game right smack in the middle of the afternoon. I'll keep a lookout.

Yes, I get caught with that all the time, even though I am used to it. It is really only a big deal with the clip weapons. Since the shotguns are not all or nothing on the reload, the animation timing is better.

That's fine, I can't fault you for that. I might actually have some time later tonight but I'm afraid I won't know for sure until about eight or nine. I'm also up until about three a.m. (I work odd hours) so on the off chance you're looking for a game around then just let me know.

But I should be free all of saturday and by then I'm sure I'll need a break from X-COM and Dishonored anyways.

Is this game still good
?

Was it ever not good?

Got tired of spending 2 hours+ getting my ass kicked by consistently by un even teams. No one ever wanted to step up and make the really good players manually go to separate teams so when the randomizer put them on the same team it over before it ever started.

Valid point. You are certainly locked into the same teams for longer than many other games. I was always rather poor at remembering who was good and who wasn't. That might be because I would spend a bunch of time obsessing over my own screw ups and forget to pay attention to the names associated with others that might not be doing so well that night. The truth is, I don't really enjoy being on the other side of that equation, either. It's not really fun to roll someone when it was random team selection that put the teams together in the first place.

If you go back 100-200 pages there were long discussions about this, but many were against going with picked teams. I myself would prefer playing with team captains that pick their teams.

Yeah, I remember the discussions well. I also remember that people didn't want to pick teams because it might hurt other people's feelings and then there were people who pretended to be blind to the fact that some people are just really good at l4d and should not be on the same team. There was also a lot of "Well it's all about the team meshing together" well yeah sometimes but when you get two l4d ass kickers on the same team the most "meshed" team of average players probably doesn't have a chance in hell.

My game time tends to be "wife next to me reading so I can't talk into a mic" time these days. I do miss L4D though.
