NFL 2012 Preseason Thread

I know that people here in Indy are relieved that we picked up another corner. Powers was our only legitimate starter, and he has missed time the past couple of years with various injuries. (foot, broken arm, hamstring, etc.). It was quite a scare when he left the game yesterday.

Thankfully Powers is supposed to be ok. Unfortunately, yesterday's game also cost us the nose tackle that was supposed to tide us over until our rookie NT is healthy enough to play. Add in the fact that the right side of our O-line looks horrible, Collie is sidelined with another concussion, and Freeney hasn't shown much adaptation to the new 3-4 scheme and there is still a lot of concern here.

On the bright side, most people have tempered expectations as we remade almost our entire lineup. Most were predicting 3-5 wins over the summer with their confidence then swelling to predictions of 6-8 after Luck showed he can play. Somewhere in the 4-6 range seems more realistic to me unless our O-line drastically improves.

Dolphins trade CB Vontae Davis to the Dolphins for a 2nd round pick. Gotta say that's a great move for the Colts imho as Davis is only 22 years old.

Also, Ravens cut K Kundiff. Should've done that last season.

Dolphins traded him to the Dolphins?

Yeah, it was a salary cap issue.

Hm. 49ers beat the Broncos. I guess that's good.

Still, preseason. Only watched a few minutes. Hard to get excited about.

Only if you're really happy about the 49ers second string players. Broncos 1st team outplayed 49ers 1st team, and in the second half it was reversed. Broncos have to hope that a larger number of 1st string players stay very healthy this year.

Last week you said the preseason meant absolutely nothing; this week, it means at least a little something, eh?

In the most important news on the earth. Vince Young news! He might be done as the Bills have traded for Tavaris Jackson.

Dream Team part deux!

There's no longer any "might be" about it.

Wow, Chris Cooley released from the Skins. If he can, I hope he does go somewhere else. I know he's battled injuries lately. He doesn't owe us Skins fans anymore than he's given.

You rely too much on instant gratification.

Truth.

Smartassery aside, the dude played for the Skins. It's just too bad he's gotten so slow.

So for someone who doesn't follow training camps, etc all that close, just what I catch on TV over the year, why has RGIII fallen below Luck in the pre-season rankings? I thought that all the pundits had RGIII higher and more "pro ready" than Luck...

RGIII has a potentially higher ceiling because of his athleticism, but Luck is more pro-ready. It was Luck running a pro-style offense, not RGIII. I think we hear more about RGIII because he's more of an unknown quantity and his play style is somewhat more exciting.

Thanks Garion.

It doesn't hurt that Luck has Reggie Wayne either. Coming into the league with a legit #1 receiver, though Wayne is not as dynamic as a player like Megatron, is huge.

Luck, to me, seems like the natural extension of Manning. I mean, in college, they let Luck call plays at the line, just like Manning. It's not as exciting to talk about him, but RGIII practically came out of nowhere last year and took Baylor places. The QB class went from one great prospect to having two great prospects. It's the sort of historical thing the media (and I guess people) like to talk about.

Please stop mentioning RGIII. The Skins are already overly snake bit. We don't need anymore jinxes!

My Mantra:

STAY HEALTHY! STAY HEALTHY STAY! HEALTHY!

The Skins are not snakebit. They are Snyderbit.

Yeah but we are the ones that suffer. I think in this case it is privatizing decision making and socializing risk and "reward".

Or maybe Snyder's runaway risk-taking rewards us with malaise.

Since we're still talking about Washington, I gotta say that I've seen a LOT of Mike Shanahan in my time (10 years living in Colorado), but I don't think I've ever seen him as red as he was this past week. Gross.

Greg Cosell: Gabbert looks like "a completely different player".

It helps that Mularkey's staff is implementing a spread-like offense. That's what Rivera and Chudzinski got so right in Carolina for Newton last year, and what Del Rio refused to do.

It also helps that at least one guy can catch a pass.

It also helps that Guy Whimper isn't in the lineup.

Well the Seahawks are the preseason champions. We destroyed those teams that didn't care that it was the preseason!

I know preseason doesn't mean much, but I think it does mean that the Seahawks have pretty good backups. I just hope the starters aren't as good as the backups. The last couple years it was defensive rookies that looked like the shining stars of preseason. With Wilson and Turbin both looking great against touch tacklers, I think our run game might be better this year then it was last year.

Skelton starting in Arizona. That Kolb trade was money for Arizona. Money, I tell ya.

I'm really surprised at how bad Kolb has been there. Then again, after multiple concussions, maybe not so surprised.

As a Jets fan, I'd simultaneosly like to apologize for all the Tebow talk coming this season and say "you're welcome" for all the laughs you're going to have at our expense this year. My god, we look bad on and off the field.

MJD showed up for duty. Shocking.

Hope he got a deal to waive his $1.2 million in fines...

Don't know how anyone can be surprised about Kolb, he showed a few flashes but for the most part he sucked in Philly when he got the chance to play. He's always been about forcing the pass and throwing picks.

Double post.

Just felt like sharing:
