Even reports that the in-game the instructions refer to the console buttons--can anyone confirm?

If true this is not "inexperienced PC developers have a hard time making a port", this is full into "we don't give a crap" mode.

I'm pretty sure that it only shows 360 buttons if you have a controller connected.

It shows the xbox buttons even if no controller is connected.

I don't know that I could switch to using m/kbd in this game anyway after so many hours with the 360 version. Would be like relearning the thing from scratch.

I'm having a hard enough time switching my brain back and forth between faster-paced Darksiders 2 and this (for example, first time into the PC version and I wasted most of my flasks in the tutorial boss fight after forgetting that the use item button wasn't the attack button :O )

I've been skimming since my last post because there are too many things to read after getting home from work.

Is the clearer textures mod stable? I only had time to get out of the Asylum last night and I like the way everything looks now, but I'm not opposed to sharpening up the image if it's possible.

I just cleared the Depths, and I haven't had any issues with it yet.

Difficulty really ramps up after the first bell. Catacombs are really hard!

That trainer almost makes me wish the game didn't come to PC. I now know someone is going to beat DS with the trainer mod from the start. Which means they beat the game but they didn't experience a Souls games.

Their loss. I won't waste another thought on people who play it that way.

That's not where you're supposed to go Catacombs is closer to an end game area. You should be visiting Capra Demon, then the Depths and Blighttown after the first bell.

*Oooooooooooooomg. I just came across my first buggy fight. I'm not sure if it's the mod or the game, but Ceaseless Discharge was messed up!

First, I was trying to hide in the hallway to hit his arm when he threw it out, but when he would attack, the arm would disappear. I'd still take damage if I was standing there, but there was nothing for me to hit. It would reappear as he recovered.

Then I tried to lure him near where you pick up the armor, but he would just stand on the other side and launch fireblasts at me through the wall.

So I figured I'd just run back toward the entrance while I tried to thin of other ways to kill him. He slammed his arm down next to me, blocking my path to the white fog, so I started booking it back toward the hallway, trying to think of something else to do. I turned around, and he was still sitting by the entrance with his arm there...

...so I went back over to see if he would pick it back up when I got near or hit him. I waited for about 20 seconds, but he never did. I hacked at it, and he just sat there until he got to 50% life. Then he lifted his arm and died from the bottomless pit bug that's always been there.

It was weird, but kind of hilarious. It was as though he was holding on for dear life with that arm by the entrance.

Edit: Also, ZERO slowdown in Blighttown, or anywhere yet for that matter.

Edit: Also also, I forgot how terrifying it is to get invaded by a real player. I think this guy made his toon specifically for pvp because he was named Man Boar Eater, and he had the boar's helmet on. Very close fight, but he dead!

I thought that was the way to beat Ceaseless Discharge. I didn't realize making him fall like that was a bug.

It's not a bug. Special animation for him grabbing by the door and getting stuck and everything. It's how you're supposed to beat him.

Man I really have find the time to actually play the game. Not tonight, not tomorrow night. I haven't had the time to get out of the undead burg.

Man Bear Pig would have been better

ATTENTION ALL NEW DARK SOULS PLAYERS:

Proper box/pot breaking etiquette does NOT include hitting them with your weapons. You must, without exception, roll into everything.

And that's realer than Real Deal Holyfield.

Also, Doak going into Catacombs after the first bell was hilarious. I actually ventured there far too early myself.

You all are whittling away at my resistance to buy this. My budget does not thank you.

How does the multiplayer invader stuff work? Can you turn it off if you don't want to worry about it?

You turn it off by never connecting to GFWL or never turning human.

Adding to that, there's apparently a particular way of having the fight with ceaseless discharge play out. Certain conditions have to be met and a couple of things have to be done that would make it appear as a bug at first glance, but it's legitimately programmed into the game. In fact, it was hinted at by the game's director... lemme see if I can find the link to the forum where I found out about it...

Here it is!

I have yet to try it myself, obviously, but reports seem to confirm this. I wonder just how many other secrets are yet to be discovered in the game? There's still no word officially on the Pendant, despite thoughts that it might be trolling on the Director's part... but secrets like this one make me wonder if there really is something there as yet undiscovered.

Well if that's the "proper" way to kill him, I've been doing it wrong. I've killed him 3 times before, and never with that method. Anyways, I knew about that bug, but the other ones on top of it were pretty weird.

I just tried it but he wouldn't follow me. I resorted to the canyon method.

Also I just experienced my first bit of framerate issues when fighting Ceaseless Discharge.

Stuff like that is what I love about this game, any other game developer would have called that a bug, From software just makes it part of the lore.

I think friends are trying to co-op together. I made my way to the Undead Parish and I tried to summon other players and each one failed.

I then returned to the Undead Burg and placed my sign by the Taurus Demon to help someone out and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I had the Black Knight on the ropes and then I got summoned. Grrr Arrgh. I only needed another five seconds!

I hope it's actually possible to co-op together again. That was my biggest disappointment with Dark Souls on console, the change in how the servers worked. If it's back to one (or at least, only a few) servers on PC, that'd be fantastic, and I'd probably be able to convince a couple friends to get the game too.

I'm not finding many people to summon me. I've helped 2 people in total even though I've put my sign down at just about every boss. Right now I'm outside of O&S and I'm at lvl 49. Hopefully there are going to be some people on tonight that I can help.

It was much improved along the way by a patch. Duffman and I had no problem meeting up.

Edit: On 360.

I have yet to be able to summon someone on the PC. I never saw a "Summoning Failed" once on either console. There must be something janky going on.

Yeah, depths much easier than the catacombs. Until Blighttown. Man, that place is ludicrous.
At first, I was thinking it's just a rehash of the area in Demon's Souls, and then I block one of the guys and he starts eating my face.

Those come later.

I've summoned one person I think, but it was after two failed attempts from other players. Lag is still pretty common I've found. I was invaded once because I forgot I was in human form when entering the forest. There was very noticeable lag as he cut me down using a boosted Quelaag's Furysword. Also when helping someone take down S&O I had the host skipping along and Super Ornstein teleporting from time to time.

I wouldn't be surprised if my firewalls are having an effect, but my new router has given me trouble whenever I tried to port forward. I should get my network admin buddy to check it out.

I doubt it is your router. The matchmaking was fine on both my consoles and they are all connected to the same router. Maybe since it just launched the servers are having load issues? Regardless it is frustrating.

I've had a lot of failed summons, but I've also managed to summon quite a few players and help out a few for gaping dragon. I'm not sure what's dictating when it works and when it doesn't.

I tried a few summons last night, all failed. I also had the fog doors appear, so I thought I was being invaded, but no invader ever showed up. I fiddled with my ports, and will try again, but so far I'm in the same boat as most other folk.
