Torchlight 2 Catch-All

If Max says, "By the end of the year." I'm gonna shoot somebody.

We will announce our release date on Friday, August 31st.

I really need to stop encouraging this PR behavior and not click on these links. I'm sick of announcement to a announcement.

At least there's no trailer announcing the announcement.

Sept. 21st. Calling it now.

Now that GW2 is out (or will be in 12 hours), Torchlight has kinda fallen off my radar. It was supposed to be one of those games that I'd play until other games came out. Now it's a game I will get to once I get sick of those games that have been released before TL2.

And 9/21 would be awful seeing that Borderlands 2 is only a few days before that!

It's a big disappointment for me as well. I had planned on playing TL2 over the summer with my two sons but now they're back in school and I too have the GW2 and BL2 power combo coming up now.

It's to the point of sillyness that I'm very tempted to make a thread for that sort of thing.

Announcement!

I would like to hereby announce that Scratched has announced Runic's announcement that they will be announcing the release date of Torchlight 2. This has been an announcement announcement announcement announcement. Meta.

Don't the facebook kids have to like something a few hundred thousand times before they can be marketed at nowadays?

We're just going through successive waves of "Social media is key!" "Social media doesn't really make a damn difference." "Social media is key!" "Social media is hard to quantify or monetize." "Social media is key!"

What are the odds they're going to delay the announcement?

depends. If it's not ready...

Man, you're all f**king whiners! Can't we just be happy that a company is doing whatever the f**k they want regardless of our own feelings than impulses?!

Meta release dates are dumb. At least give us an ARG to allow us to believe we can earn an early release.

This *IS* the arg!

I am really hoping they announce that it will be out in the next couple weeks but I have a feeling it's going to be delayed to end of the year especially with this announcement of an announcement.

Is it just a gaming industry thing to announce an announcement or is it done elsewhere?

"We have announcement on the Whatever date"

Whatever date comes:

"We have launched a new website"

Go to new website. It's a teaser image with a countdown.

Countdown reaches zero:

15 second Teaser trailer is uploaded with no game play and a lot of big dramatic words.

Three months later:

We have an announcement.......

Maybe the announcement at pax will. Be that they're done and handing out preorders at the show. Hahahajahahaha!

I hope they announce that everyone with preorders can jump right in and play the beta regardless of when the release is.

Oh dear god, don't let them do another beta.

Why not? I only remember folks being sad when the last one closed down. If they announced the release date as October 31st, as someone who preordered, you wouldn't take advantage of them letting you play content between now and then?

Given what I played the last time three months ago I'd rather they just released a good v1 and then let them patch it, unless they've got something against patching.

Maybe they want it to be done done so they can move on to the MMO instead of spending 6 months patching.

I think they're flexible, although I guess it depends a fair bit on their owner, Perfect World. They have said if there's demand they might be looking at a TL2 expansion.

I will be very surprised if that MMO ever sees the light of day. The market is so oversaturated, and I don't think "free-to-play, y'all!" is nearly the magic bullet it used to be (if it ever really was).

I would love a F2P Torchlight MMO.

Well, I've never been much of an MMO guy, but speaking strictly for myself, I think that most of what I'd get out of a Torchlight MMO I would get just as well out of a multiplayer Torchlight sequel, which we're at least theoretically already getting assuming they ever release the damn thing. (-:

That's a good point. I guess I was thinking about a persistent world with tons of content.

Now that I'm thinking about it, is there an open world isometric RPG, something like taking Torchlight and putting it in Skyrim's world?

A multiplayer Torchlight kind of kills my need for an MMO Torchlight. In fact I'd prefer the co-op instead of an MMO.

I feel this way about most RPGs. Let me play Dragonage: Origins with three friends, don't build a dang MMO.

That's the thing for me, I'm sure there's people out there that the "Torchlight + MMO" combination sounds awesome, and more power to them, but I'm not seeing the great value it would bring. It doesn't seem like there's a gap in the market it would be filling, F2P or otherwise.

Maybe I'm cynical, but I feel like an MMO is basically just a multiplayer game with really slow progression and/or additional fees.

I guess my question would be, why do you want a Torchlight MMO?

Bastards. I came in here looking for an announcement of something meaningful...

Yeah, welcome to GWJ.
