DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

I managed to find some decent weapons.

I can run around and find food and water now.

Today, I managed to be a victim of hackers.
I was on top of the school in Elekta... and suddenly I was somewhere else. First thought was I fell to the ground, then I saw some dude in aviators. I managed to hit ESC and abort/disconnect in time.

After that I got a few battle eye scrip errors, but I've been able to log back onto some other server and see that I'm still in tact.

They teleported me to the airfiels way up North. Now I have to figure out how to get back, or if I want to.

That was a really negative experience. Thank god I was prone, and my ping was probably faster than theirs.

So silly.

Man, I haven't been able to play this for over a week and I'm wondering if I should even bother if the hacking is getting worse or even just no better.

A couple of nights I tried logging in to servers running the last mod, but kept getting hung up on the loading screen. I think it may have been due to the recent patch of ArmaII itself, though.

I've now (supposedly) updated to the latest versions of both ArmaII and DayZ, but debating moving to something on the pile instead and waiting for the standalone.

First world problems.

Invite sent.

Muchos gracias.

Was going to play some tonight.
Where is the best place to join some trustworthy survivors?

Probably the Vent channel, then you can coordinate servers. Could probably also post something on the Steam group about timing (but not the specific server). I never got my version to work through Steam so I never show up as playing there, even when I am.

I'm hoping to get on tonight so if you want someone to watch your back I'd happily join. This game is way better with (trustworthy) others. No protection from hackers, though....

They may have done you a favor by sending you to the NW airfield. If you're confident you can deal with a few zombies (always fight or evade them inside a building if you can help it, zombies are forced to walk indoors) and there are no players around, you can get good equipment at the airfield barracks or Starry Sabor. http://dayzdb.com/map#3.057.062

As for trustworthy servers, I'm not sure which servers are preferable. I stick to low population servers and haven't seen much blatant hacking like that.

What are you able to get done when you log in for 10-15 minutes? I've noticed I tend to get more cautious each time I get nice stuff, but apparently I need to be more cautious.

I'm perched at a spot in Stary. I check and see if i can see any zombies that have spawned around the town, and if so i go hunting for a bit.

Yeah, steam doesn't seem to be counting hours in ARMA OA. I launch with DayZ Commander.
Vent was kind of vacant, but managed to catch up with some GWJers in another game.

in settings you can tell dayz commander to launch through Stem.

Hey Ghostship, I saw you over in the MWO channel on Vent but didn't want to interrupt your game. Burnt Toast and I went on a daring nighttime raid on NW Airfield and Starry Sabor tonight. Hope you can join us next time.

Here is the link to Lirik's feed for the Hunger Games. Apparently he did pretty well. I haven't watched it all yet. It starts around 1 hr 50. In heavy rain. With a goat.

Hmm... don't shoot if you see me in Starry then! I may have to be more careful about using dash and grab tactics there.

Also, does anyone know if it's possible for other players to see your shift-single-click map waypoints by hacking? I've heard this may be possible due to ARMA's design, but don't have any more details yet.

We got ambushed last night right after we met up in the woods. I'm trying to narrow down how the bandits could have found us. It seems like it could have been:

1. Dumb luck that they were in the same area or were searching the area with a thermal scope.
2. They saw our personal waypoints somehow.
3. They had some unrelated cheat that allowed them to find all the players on the map.

Unless it's changed in the past month, there are no personal waypoints. If you are putting waypoints on the map, everyone on the same side as you can see it; in base ARMA, a side would be a cohesive army and this would be desirable. In DayZ, the side is the survivors -- so you're showing those waypoints to everyone.

I'm not sure if they're in ARMA 2 or not, but they do exist in DayZ. He's not talking about the big X markers you can label. The personal waypoint puts a little circle where you clicked on the map and the distance and direction to the point will show up on the HUD while you're playing. I've heard that they'll show up for people who were within a short distance of you when you made the waypoint, but in my experience that doesn't happen (I've made waypoints while standing next to someone and they didn't get it on their map or HUD).

They can track you on their map. Or just straight up watch markers on their screen of where you are. So if they see multiple people converging they might wait until you get together then teleport in and shoot ya.

"They" meaning "hackers" or just anyone?

They seemed to find us pretty soon and I broke my own rules and did not run or disconnect immediately (although I never did have a visual on them and so no clear direction to run) and then was too slow in my disconnect (alt-F4 failed me and I had to try ESC-abort).

Frustrating because I've played on nearly full servers and not run into anyone for extended periods but there were only 9-10 people on this and 3+ found us nearly as soon as we met up.

Oh well. As the saying goes "that's Day Z".

And we did have fairly good luck on the other server (although the loot we got was far from the treasure pile I was expecting from all the hype about the NE airstrip and Starry Sobor).

Have some kids, so I'm not the only one missing this stuff.

Awesome job. It takes a team to guard the guy with the parts in his inventory right?

We're still gathering parts for the chopper now. It looks like we need 1 engine, 1 rotor, 4 scrap and 8 windscreens. Oh and 50 jerry cans of fuel.

It would be handy if we had a car to help us gather some of this stuff. It looks like the hard part will be getting all those jerry cans to the chopper or getting the chopper to the jerry cans.

http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/UH-1H_Huey

Also, does anyone else want to help us fly this thing? I've figured out how to lift off in testing, but I still need more practice landing in one piece.

I can fly the chopper pretty easily. I might be on tonight and will hop in vent if I do.

And like that, the chopper's gone.

I scored a lot of nice parts on the east coast, including an engine block. I was swimming out to the isle when I gliched on the rocks and died. I respawned in Kamenka re-geared and headed back to the chopper with a couple jerry cans, 3 windshields and 2 scrap metals. Enough to put a good dent in our progess.

I make it through Cherno and Elektro, out to the cape, across to the Isle and was just about to put the gear into the cargo hold when I get sprayed by automatic fire. Laying on ground next our prize, bleeding out, my killer comes up and takes aim.

"Die Buddy"

And we're out.

Even with the death, still had fun. Even got to ride my first bike. I pedaled away from Kamenka with an angry, and inept, sniper firing at me.

I was making a corpse-run when I passed the island, saw the bastards fill up at the warehouse/pier across from it, but they didn't see me or let me go. Then, ten minutes of running up to Solnichniy (Where HannibalS was waiting by my corpse and near a van we'd found) and the copter reappeared and killed me. Le sigh. Hard not to wonder at the coincidences, but I'm going to resist the temptation to cry Hax! every time I get shot. Hannibal did manage to rescue some of the good loot, so perhaps the GWJer copter will fly another day. They spawn pretty reliably on the island, so maybe the trick is to get a crew w/ the necessary parts and swim out there at once to fix it.

It might help if we store some parts in a vehicle or tent closer to the island so we can get the copter flying as soon as we find it. We'd still need a group of people to help carry the items since none of the ships have cargo space. The PDX speedboat would also be handy for this quest of ours.

I was able to rescue your M14, backpack with ghili, both toolboxes, compass, military flashlight and G17 from the corpse. I thought I was being overly cautious when I made to run to watch over your stuff, but I think I should have been more cautious and kept watch from the hills instead of down near the beach after recovering the items. Too bad we didn't have a few snipers with AS50s watching from up there.

He's shooting an A-10 out of himself.

I had a few free minutes this afternoon, so I started reequipping a fresh survivor. Wouldn't you know it, 2nd building I entered had a tent in it. I'm thinking I'll set up a camp on the island, once I find a server that allows swimming and whatnot.

According to the wiki, "as of patch 1.7, you no longer lose items by swimming in the sea." I haven't checked into this in more detail yet though. But which DayZ versions have patch 1.7?

Is a tent a sign of hacking, or you're just happy to find a tent?
I've never seen one which isn't already set up. I have seen them in buildings, set up. Usually surrounded with wire.

They are rare, but they do spawn in residential buildings. Before they are set up they look like green duffel bags.
IMAGE(http://img.dayzdb.com/img/database/tent.png)

Yeah, they spawn in department stores too.
They're big, you can't miss them.

So, what keeps other users from shopping in your tent when you're not logged in?

And the tent belongs to the server right? So once you set one up, you're married to the server?

Nothing and yes it's married to the server.
