Summoner Wars Catch All

@Boudreaux, I was waiting on my chants of haste. I figured I could've taken a few more shots of that breath attack and still live. Once you move that drake to my side I knew you were dead.

Why is that? I'm just curious.

Short:
You had no defense from trample and I could've killed you with 1 hit.

Long:
You were hitting me but I could've blocked you off at anytime. I calculated it would've taken you at least 3-4 rounds to kill me, longer if your rolls were bad.

I had not used any haste yet meaning I had at least 2 potshots coming your way. If Miti missed all four hits, I still had another haste so Miti could've gotten to you again. It would've taken the Drake 2 turns to come back plus my archers are always a threat.

I always think this when I'm playing PE vs JE: can I kill the summoner and can any unit reach me within 6 squares melee, can archers hit me? If the answers are no, yes, yes. Then I plug the holes.

There also a few more things to consider if you want me to continue. I just don't want to rabble on too much

Edit: I also had my secret tactician on my side

I knew it!!

Hereafter, that's a pretty nasty strategy with Miti there. It definitely frustrated me, especially when you pulled out those two healing cards. Were you saving those, or did you just get lucky?

I had the chants of life(s) in my hand. For me they're the second most useful event cards. With them Miti become 9 magic for 12 life quick which is insane!

My piorities:

Haste = Life > Deception. Salvation is build for magic unless I need a wall or haste ASAP.

The only reason I like haste is because I use Khan Queso and the vermins.

@Stretgo, I think the samething happened to you. You weren't prepared for Miti extended life

Yeah, that is really smart. I knew you were up to something with all that magic building but wasn't sure, so I chose to play defensively. I think the counter to that would actually be to play really offensively, forcing you to play Miti or your events before you're ready. Of course by building all your magic and killing your units you're not presenting a lot of opportunities for your opponent to get magic, which is a huge plus as well.

Miti tanking is a very effective strategy for Jungle Elves. It isn't easy to counter, with trampling over commons, and enough health and attack to beat off most champions as well. Ranged commons can help, and at least make the trample less of a problem.

Sigh, I'm dead. Not a very good game, Dysplastic.

I feel like you could have done much better, your thwarters were incredibly frustrating, but you just left your summoner out there to dry.

@Dysplastic, I was trying something new with the Orcs and lost focus.

I also been really frustrated with the RNG in the last couple of days. 2 dices vs 1 life should hit almost 90% of the time but the RNG did not agree with me. In another game someone hit 9/10 in 2 attacks with Blagog. I also lost some games because all my walls were in the bottom of the deck. That got me in a foul mood, so I lost focus on my other games :-).

In other news though, you wouldn't believe my current draw in our game...:-(

Just posting another reminder in case anyone missed the earlier post, we are organizing a GWJ Summoner Wars Tournament.

It will surely be lots of fun, so everyone who hasn't should go over to that thread and join! We are planning to start in the beginning of September.

Any recommendations on which in-app purchase(s) to make so I can join you guys online? I was going to get the everything pack, but it doesn't appear to actually have everything. I could have misread it though.

The everything pack does include everything. It's a great deal and strongly recommended if you want to get into the game.

What Hereafter said, the everything pack gives you everything. It's more fun with all the toys to play with

That way when you see someone do something cool in a game against you, you can go play that faction yourself in your next game. It also let's you play around and see which factions you find most fun or are most suited to your style.

thejustinbot, what was your plan when you moved Abua Shi into that wall pocket (with the chant of deception)? Other than of course not rolling so horribly against Sneeks? I think you would have been in a pretty strong position if you had just kept Abua further back.

@Athros, good luck in the pocket tactics NH tourney.

I wanted to face you next but there's always a chance.

Slightly off topic sorry guys.

heh. I got rolled up hard into a corner. lookmanohands had a push in hand almost every turn for the whole game. It was difficult enough getting things in place vs Moloch, but with draws like that, doing damage to his HQ was damn near impossible.

I hope I don't go out like a chump in the next round Who knows though. I'm still debating on whether I'm going to take Neojungle or Outpost.

Challenge me anytime

So, when's the Summoner Wars Tournie starting again?

Plan was for sign ups for the tournament to close tomorrow. So we should get things going this weekend, barring unforeseen difficulties.

Yeah, I have no idea. Took far too many turns in far too many games last night while I was tired or distracted and just did really weird stuff.

Good game necroyeti! I wish I had better rolls for that last bit. I might have actually been able to get some better offense rolling!

Necroyeti: I'm not playing VG this go around, I decided on something I've only played the AI with.

Cool, I was counting on finding a thread about this game here. Although I don't own an iPad I was given the Master Set by the fiance a couple months ago and have been enjoying the matches I've had with my one regular boardgaming friend. Picked up a couple faction decks yesterday on a whim. Could see this getting a bit expensive but I love the standalone, casual nature of it as well.

Played a couple more matches of the Master Set over the weekend. It's getting to the point where my friend and I are unfurling more of the deeper strategies, paying more attention to our card abilities and we're getting way more competitive (no more take backs!).

Scored a second straight, satisfying win with the Shadow Elves, the faction that I hated on my first play of SW but now I am rather quite fond of. To his credit my friend was handicapped himself by playing the Deep Dwarves without having a strong sense of how to use them. Our final game was a lot more competitive with my friend using the new Mercenaries pack I picked up and I finally got a chance to try out his favourite, the Mountain Vargath.

I am hoping they expand this game to other platforms beyond iOS because I've gotten to the point where playing it once very couple of weeks is not going to cut it for me.

Sorry, posted here instead of in the tourney thread

@Maclintok Playdek is expanding this game to the Android too. So chances are if you have a smartphone you can play this game.

Of course if you are one of the crazy windows or blackberry phone users you SOL :-).

Yeah that's great news. I am picking up one of those Nexus 7 tablets for my dad and eyeing one up for myself should the need arise. I also sent some kudos to the Plaid Hat games and put in a polite request for a no-frills budget-priced PC/Steam port.

I believe there's a VASSAL module for this game, if you want *really* no frills and *really* budget priced.

EDIT: Yup.

Wow, that's cool. I'll need to check that out soon.

Now that I'm done with the Summoner Wars tournament, people still playing casual games for fun? My games list is looking a bit barren at the moment.

I was taking a bit of a break after overkilling it a bit, but feel free to toss me an invite, I'll get back into it.
