MechWarrior: Online - Catch all

Atlas tends to be the most common mech played by beginners. Hunchback would give you decent speed, good fire power and decent armor. I'd probably stay away from the catapult as your first mech because it tend to be a "hang back and shoot" mech and won't really teach you any of the concepts regarding piloting the mech and component targeting.

I bought a Dragon, but think I'll likely buy a Hunchback, too.

I have really enjoyed the dragon in the mechwarrior games that have had them. Your mileage may vary as I have not played one in MWO. Historically they do strike a good balance of speed, firepower and armor.

Is there a list of mechs they've implemented in MWO already?

Mannishboy: the gold money is currently play money. Just buy a mech and try it out.

Right, I understand about the resets. But I still wanted a better idea of a good starter mech.

Jenner
Commando
Hunchback
Centaurian
Dragon
Catapult
Awesome
Atlas

Then there are variants for each chassis.

Tonight. 8:30pm EST. Will be on in vent if anyone else wants to join in.

I'll try to be on. My handle is "knight templar" if anyone wants to friend me up.

I don't even see how to add friends from the launcher. Where is it?

Noob: Do I not get XP when using free trial Mechs?

If so, I guess I need to decide what is a good learner mech to spend some of the MC on that you get by default.

No xp from the trial mechs.

I assume later down the road as they add more mechs that they'll set up a rotation like LoL does for it's champs.

So what's a good "trainer" mech that's not made from paper or too slow to move or critical to the battle that needs it to be played by an experienced person? Something medium weight maybe? Hunchback, Centurion, Dragon? And maybe a variant recommendation, or can I just swap stuff out reasonably cheaply? I've got about 1.3m in credits plus the 13000 MC that they give you during beta.

I'd say a Catapult, Hunchback, or Dragon.

This thread just soooo makes me want to reinstall MW4.

I wish I got anything out of multiplayer, or I'd be joining you. Alas, if the last year has taught me nothing else.... LOL

The little yellow icon that looks like a speech text box in the lower right of the screen.

Thanks guys.
This would be a good game with more people to coordinate.
If I were a good pilot, that would help too.
That is if I were playing it.

I am up for games I got the beta invite on friday but it was in my spam folder... Would have loved to have joined (the friday get together). Really liking the light and medium mechs on the Trial ver. Haven't tried out the heavy stuff yet. My name in game is the same as the GWJ/Steam ... If you want to notify me to play steam is where I am. Don't hesistate to send me a message while I'm in another game. My mechwarrior experience is 2 (and exp), 3 (and exp) , 4 (and exp and small amount of multiplayer). This game feels like a mechwarrior game. I am missing a proper Joystick though. The mouse and keyboard controls aren't terrible like the last 3 games.

I've sent several friends requests. Is there a list of users from here anywhere yet?

I'm just "MannishBoy".

There aren't a whole lot of us in the beta. Just list a time you think you'll be on and others may show up.

Just logged back in for the first time in about a week. A little sore about them resetting all the pilot lab progress

Still though, beta and all that.

Sounds like it will be reset again soon reading the forums. They're going to add in repair costs it sounds like, too.

Gosh darn monochrome palettes.

On an unrelated note, my install is buggered up and I can't start the game. Clicking PLAY from the patcher just closes the patcher gui, leaves the process running and the launcher doesn't launch anything.

Lets use this spreadsheet in the PC section for this game

Sounds good. rickyyo and I played quite a few rounds yesterday and had fun. Still learning in the Dragon, but I think I'll buy something else soon.

Biggest thing I've learned: Stay behind the heavy assault guys at the first of the round. Don't be the guy that crests the hill first if you don't like to be LRM'd.

What you've got there with no space doesn't work for me, but once I added a space, it sent the invite.

Found this interesting:

Q:I doubt this can be answered, but in the reveal trailer you show a Warhammer, Jenner, and an Atlas. The Jenner and Atlas have been announced but not the Warhammer. [Saber Avalon]
A: To be clear, that video was for another planned Mech game set in 3025 - essentially MechWarrior 5. This game is MechWarrior Online, and thus has little to do with the earlier planning, other than they are both set in the BattleTech universe. [Garth]

Yeah I realized that I am terrible at online. This game needs the ability to make your weapon groups before entering a proper game. I also need to spend some time figuring out what weapon combos I like. I haven't played this game since 4 and I forgot everything I liked setup wise. Another issue is that setup wise they were all for single player against AI so they are probably terrible against real people.

Also to Nevin's QA thing. I hope that is true cause an online game like this is killing me. I enjoy it a ton but I die more often in this without a kill than anything else on the market.

I think it definitely has a lot going on that's going to take awhile to learn. But I still mostly have fun even doing badly.

Patience is something else I learned.

So, after nothing much was happening to help me fix my startup issues, I completely reinstalled the thing. After that, I could launch the game proper screen, but before it would get populated with data, the game would crash to desktop. Fine.

The new patch finally comes out. This one is supposed to fix the problems. I press PATCH. 50% patcher progress: the patcher crashes with unhandled exception. *sigh*

Huh, didn't realize that patch happened a couple of days ago. Wish I'd read the forums before to know I needed to spend all my C-bills on Mechs or lose it

Yeah and with the repair/rearm costs, if you lose a match, it will cost more to get your mech back to 100% than you'll win. I know that they still have tweaking to do, but I'm glad I had my mechs customized before they incorporated this.

What's the best time to play this?

well...got into the closed beta today. seems like my computer can't run it at all. sad day.
