What is the meaning behind your GWJ name?

Well....

My dad is only 17 years older then me. So I grew up listening to and enjoying much of his music.

That and a river in hell is cool.....right? Come on guys. Guess not...

The 120 was out of my controls in this forum.

Wow, that''s... Well, I think most X-com players would find that pretty cool, I know I do

Very cool. Man, his gear must of been pretty cool
looking.

Sorry, I just had to come back with an edit and say
how very cool and fun that game was. I don''t want
to derail thread, but came back to it about 6 month''s
ago and it was just as fun as ever it was when it first came out. (and I''m talking the European release. I couldn''t wait for it to get to the USA. And thru it, really go to know a great guy and his family. Thanks Robear!) Graphic''s be darned.

I sure miss the PWT missile launcher. Setting 9 waypoints for missiles was so fun! I liked having them do a loop and impact on the targets head.

Those were the days....

Lol...completely forgot about the ""Beer Viking"" moniker. Damn...we''re getting old, man. (Viking and I were college roomates...he drank all the beer, I smoked all the...um...nevemind that part:)

We''re responsible adults now, though!

Fanatka was born in EQ as the first randomly-typed pronouncable name that I could get past the EQ name filter on launch day.

And I''m still not explaining mine. Aside from losing my super powers, it''s also lame :D.

Fang Blackbone is a bit character in the manga by Masamune Shirow (of Ghost in the Shell fame) called Appleseed.

He is the Eswat commander of the two main characters Deunan Knute and Briareos.

Oh and he is a bad ass.

Fang, you know about the Appleseed remake I assume? if not, the trailer is out on apple.com/trailers.

My name is actually not of the Greece leader around during Alexander the Great''s time (I believe that''s correct) but is instead the webhandle of Valentine from the Ender''s Game series... she ends up creating a series of articles demanding peace and equality and all that... and well, between the kewl historical meaning and the idea of being a name based around peace and philosophy... it stuck with me... this was after Locke of course, but there was something about having a webhandle of a world dominator that just didn''t sit right.

I remember playing that o my rommate''s blazing fast 8mhz computer.

Oh, and if you pushed the TURBO button, it went to 16Mhz!

Cool! Terry Pratchett is my favourite author, but my favourite book of all time is Ender''s Game. That book is perfection

There are lots of cool stories here gang!

Another great read is Startide Rising by David Brin. If you like Enders, then you might like the Brin Uplift War Trilogy

Jaysus! That was like 10th grade or somthing! And what were you called back then? (cause I haven''t the foggiest) :old:

No, C-64 days, back in the early 80s. The very original ""John the Cop"" I believe.

OK, here is the secret origin of the Spleen.

First of all, my name is Dean so the Dean/Spleen rhyme scheme probably played a factor.

I''m a part-time professional musician (singer/guitar player) and several years ago I was corralled into helping my then booking agent with a series of talent showcases that the company ran in various bars across the city. I would meet the bands at the venue, help them get on and off stage, introduce them, run lights etc"… I''d also report back as to whether any of the bands seemed worth pursuing for actual employment. Compensation was $50 and a $50 bar tab.

Well, I was in my mid 20''s and lived within stumbling distance or cheap cab fare from the places that held the showcases so I would on occasion take full advantage of that bar tab. After one particularly drunken evening where, after my showcase gig I ended up at a club where friends of mine were playing and I was apparently completely wasted, my booking agent started calling me Spleen, as a sort of synonym for Liver.

The nickname stuck and when I started playing First Person Shooters, it seemed a natural considering the immense amount of my own flying gibs appearing onscreen. I''ve used it ever since.

My name is Japanese for Assassin''s Blade according to some online translator I found when UO first came out. I was looking for a good name for the assassin I hoped to play. He turned out to be a bust and I wound up playing a warrior but some buds I play with got used to the name so I started using it for FPS games and here.

i''m not cool enough to be evil, and my name isn''t roy.

so it just made sense.

Simpilot is my giving props to my father who recently retired from Delta Air Lines after 37 years.

Mine is elvish for the Nazgul. When I went to sign up for my first e-mail account, Nazgul was taken but Ulairi wasn''t.

Welp, I''ve always used the name ""Ratticus"" for online gaming, and pretty much all online interations. After lurking here for a few months, I decided to set up an account, but I did not want to be seen as one of Rat Boy''s minions(no offense).

So the search for another name began. I''m deeply in love with yellowstone park, plus I needed a name that I could use for MMORPG''s. The most viewed, photographed, and filmed wolf pack in Yellowstone is the Druid Peak Pack. So, Druidpeak it was.

I just ate french bread pizza. My wife loves me.

Was Predator, then Pred, then, in a random chat, someone combined Frederick and Predator. It''s stuck for a while now, and I like it. Not quite Frederick, not quite Predator. Prederick.

I think it was ''John the Cop''...very original

edit; oh shoot I just saw your post John....

My name goes back to when we played Six-Gun Shootout on the C-64. We could name your guys and arm them up, so I always took the sawed-off and a regular shotgun....Shotgunphil. Oh, and my name`s Phil.

Scoli is an abreviation of scoliosis. When I was in 8th grade I had to get surgery to correct my scoliosis (a curvature of the spine) and all of my friends started calling me Scoli.

I like the name and use it in all of the games I play.

Mills is the middle name of my screen persona, Max Shrek, the Godfather of Cinematic Vampires:

There ought to be some grand story to bind me to my monicker, so, umm ...

The night was sultry. The funk of freshly rained on garbage wafted from a dark alley as I skulked through the bad side of town looking for a fight. I was half drunk and mad as an Irishman who just broke his last bottle of whiskey. I never saw the ninjas!

They attacked from all sides, and when I say that I mean it in an entirely three dimensional perspective. They fell from the sky like sleek death dealing raindrops. They poured from the alley in a cadre deluge of violent purpose. They thrust themselves up from the sewers, and twenty more came from directions unseen. They surrounded me, tightening like a spasmodic sphincter. I grinned a devil''s grin ... and closed my eyes.

I did not need my vision, for their very numbers was their greatest weakness. I was a mad blur, a time-lapse shade of pain. For each weapon one ninja would draw it would be turned against his comrades. Blood flowed like a swollen river. Limbs clogged the street, and the agony cries of my enemies filled my ears, a sweet auditory perfume. Finally, one enemy remained, a lithe hellish creature hooded in robes that whispered through the salty breeze. From under his hood burned eyes like green fire. Battle was joined.

He swiped at me with something like a talon, and firey pain screamed across my chest. He was fast, but I was faster, rolling through the swing, and in one final fluid motion I took hold of the demon''s neck and twisted until it snapped. The creature burst forth a guttural sound, and fell to its knees. With what remained of the thing''s breath, he turned his horrible face to me [I could make out scars and twisted flesh under the dim glow of crimson light] and hissed his last word ... Elysium.

Anyway, back to the XCOM thread derail-

I recently found a patch that lets you run the XCOM Collector''s Edition for Win95 perfectly on Windows XP. I mean, it even runs at 486 speed and the sound effects are perfect and everything. It''s goddamned beautiful. If any of you fools want it, PM or email me; compressed its only like 700k or something like that so I can email it or whatever.

Umm, far too much originality here to compete with.

I''m a conspiracy whore and so I named myself ""illuminatus"" after that famous masonic (or reptillian if you believe David Ike) conspiracy.
After years of using it on IRC channels and coming to the conclusion that everyone just called me ""illum"" for short, I changed it.

Nothing really to it... though I did consider calling myself ""Jaunty Hat"" upon registering.

Yo! My dad too!

I used to be a big time (not good but played alot) paintball player. I was the guy who sat in the back on the team in Tournaments (I''m not a small runner type guy). I''d make the paint happen...so there ya go...
Oh I''m aware its close to ""sh*t happens"". People point that out all the time and I''m like ""duh"" Oh and I can''t draw or do any art much less paint (Hell can''t even paint a wall in a house that looks right).
