Ascension (iOS) Gaming League (New Tourney starting Jan 14, 2013!)

Don't think it would've made a difference, but I forgot you had the last turn, so I didn't use my trophy cards I had. Hard to tell which way this game's going though.

The way it went was in you destroying me. I waited to long to define my strategy, and even at the end I was a mess. Great job.

Cyrax is the winner and I am now out of the competition.

New match which will define the finals!

Chumpy_McChump vs. cyrax

Chumpy, please send a challenge to Cyrax

Man, I wish there was a way to spectate...

I sent a PM to Chumpy letting him know he's up!

Couldn't agree more. I'm excited to plan a new tourney as well. I think there has been enough of a lapse for most people that we don't need a break.

We've got a casual game that's just winding up; as soon as it's done, I'll send the Official Invite.

Don't know if anyone wants to beat up on a newb, but I played at GenCon then bought everything paper and digital. Hit me up in ios for a game. Pretty sure I am spynavy there as well.

First game of the Loser's Final came down to the last turn; score of 73-73.

ARGH! (By which I mean, I went first.)

Game to cyrax! Could the Cinderella story go all the way? Or will it end in heartbreak? Stay tuned!

Seriously, iOS needs a capture app, or Ascension a replay feature. That's one of the best endings to a match ever, and I think the only time I've jumped up and down after winning a board game (or any) since I was a child. I was screaming and jumping for a solid 3-5 minutes. THAT WAS EPIC. I thought it was a lost game for sure, no doubt in my mind. Chumpy had:

1) Two Everblooms, the first since honor 57.
2) Two Cog Maws, Wormhole, and Dreamer's Glass. Basically, he got all the constructs, and banished Autobuilder when it was in play. My one construct was Synchronizer.

Granted, I did have a good hand as well, but with the Everblooms, high value constructs, and what seemed like a control of the board from my view with consistent banishing, I was basically resolved to lose and just play to the best to my ability and finish strong.

I don't know if this is accurate of my final hand, but it's close:

The board consisted of: Mechana Event, Polaris Demon, Tarik, Hoarding Tyrant, PRIME, and two Honey Siren.

I drew: Shadowcaster, Elder Skeptic, Elemental Adept, Tower Askara, and Soul Assassin.

For a little game, how would you have played that last hand?

Done? Here's my winning play.

For some reason I played Elder Skeptic first, even though the obvious, and arguably smarter, decision is to use Askara first. I drew two Void Militia, and discarded Shadowcaster. I did that for two reasons: One, I knew I had enough to kill Tarik or Tyrant, plus Soul Assassin gives me two Runes for that; and two, Shadowcaster is one draw unless you banish a card in your hand, and I couldn't take that chance.

Next, I played Tower Askara. I drew Prodigal, a Mystic, and Snake Shaman. Lucky me, I discarded Prodigal knowing I could keep two cards and use the Snake Shaman with Mystic and two Runes from Soul Assassin. I then used Elemental Adept, drew Scrap Flinger, and banished one of the two Honey Siren, turning up another Elemental Adept.

To tie with Chumpy, I played Soul Assassin and two Void Militia to kill Tarik (*5), which unveiled Canopic Jar (*2), and then copied PRIME to pickup the Jar. I played the Mystic and Snake Shaman to give me 5 Runes total, which I used to pick up the Elemental Adept (*3), and traded two Runes for *2 by using Snake Shaman. Finally, I got my winning point by killing a Cultist with Scrap Flinger.

I've had more outlandish final turns than that, but none so tense and rewarding.

My winning deck: http://imgur.com/a/LsmED And yes, that's two Snake Shamans.

GG

Oh, and in our second game he has an early Everbloom, yet again. f*ck that noise.

Sent you an FR, let's see how you fair against the first person eliminated from this competition

Looks like its outlandish vs cyrax in the epic rematch final. Outlandish please send the invite. Gl to you both!

Alright, bigred calls game two! Nice playing with you Chumpy. Glad I got the default win on that one, looked like you had a strong start. GG

Invite sent, now to play the villain and crush all dreams of Cyrax's glorious comeback.

Wait, what? cyrax are in the middle of game 2...

Oh man, sooo good. HAHAHAHA

And game 2 goes correctly to me, 57-45.

That was quite possibly the most power/monster-heavy game I've played; I think my deck only had 4 cards that weren't either starter cards or Heavy Infantry. The deck, she was kind, though, and now it's off to game 3 (I think)!

Hah, apparently Bigred has no faith in you Chumpy. Canceled the invite to Cyrax. Whomever wins we're already GC friends so just toss me an invite when it's done to speed things along. Less than 3 days to Guild Wars, would like to finish by then if possible, probably not quite going to happen though.

Wow, I completely misread that on my ipad last night My apologies guys. When you said GG I interpreted that as match over. Please continue and I will update the playoff bracket appropriately on the site when the match is over. Really sorry Chumpy, hope this doesn't affect you.

Match has been reset. Keep playing! Sorry again.

Well, my morale is crushed, and my bleak despair has started to affect my wife and children. They do nothing but cry and stare out the window at the constant drizzle, remembering a time when their husband and father wasn't an empty shell of a man.

Aside from that, no harm done.

Ok, Chumpy, got any more luck in that bag? Lionheart on the first turn, then Mystic, Grease Monk, and Aiyana's Messenger on the same turn? Syril, Cog Maw, and 303V's on the board, too. Could still be interesting, time will time. And ya, the last game was extremely kind to you. Not blow-out kind, but to the point where I never had a chance.

Looks like the universe was sad about my last game and decided to make it up to you in spades. Is it uncomfortable walking around with that many horseshoes stuck up there?

The game isn't officially done, but considering the kindness of the centre piles to cyrax over the last 4 or 5 turns (along with some truly frustrating banishings), my guess is that there's nothing left but the crying. Well, mine, at least. It'll be done if cyr ever finishes his last damn turn.

It's up to you to decide, one last turn. You still have a good chance of winning, you've had a great Lifebound deck, and that honor worth could definitely make up for the stellar last round I had. Even if I don't win, it was an amazing comeback that game.

And cyrax takes game 3 with a score of 66-54, a margin, I might add, slightly less than his scoring for his last turn.

I'd like to blame bigred for his jinxing mis-call, Outlandish for beating me the first time, and cyrax for playing a fine match and the most strategic game of Ascension I've played yet.

I guess now I have to hope for cyrax. He really does make a pretty Cinderfella...

You sent me to the loser's bracket! I did it all on purpose to spite you! Sorry you lost

So, the Cinderella comeback final. Outlandish vs Cyrax (for real this time) for the championship!

Invite for realsies sent then. I spent the last hour setting personal records left and right in Peggle to warm up, I'm feeling unstoppable!

Wow; I hadn't realized that it was Outlandish that beat Cyrax in round 1! Big finale for realz, yo!

I can't seem to stop playing this game now. Does it track your offline record too or just online? I haven't played an online match yet and can't find the offline numbers.

First turn down, I've got an Abolisher and Aiyana's messenger. Feeling good already as long as Cyrax doesn't have 5 runes for the Shadowcaster.

It only keeps track of your online win/loss record.

I think Outlandish may be dead. He hasn't sent me a turn back. Bad day?

I have a pic of my last game with Chumpy that I'll upload tomorrow after work. Another damn great final hand. A real shame you didn't get your Lionheart or an Enlightened Hero on your last turn. That might've made it even closer.

GGs Chumpy!
