I want to thank the Rays for sweeping the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim in Orange County in Anaheim. Oakland will be there later this week to take you guys back down to earth.

Huh? Didn't the Rays beat Oakland 8-0 away a few weeks back? And the game the A's did win was in 14 or 15 innings? :?

First: A win is a win. Second: Oakland and TB are 3-3 this year. The Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim in Orange County are not as good as the swinging A's.

It's nice to hear some Jeter love. He's one of the last 90s Yankees still going strong. A good balance to some of the personalities NY has had come and go.

Colon got caught cheating. Boo. At least the A's have a stacked pitching staff.

Well, that explains a lot.

Buster Olney wrote:

This comes as a tragic shock for the Athletics, who claim to have had no knowledge of Colon's transgressions. The team has gone from half a game out of a Wild Card tie at 66-56 to last place in the AL West at 56-66.

Could you imagine?

Billy Beane couldn't be reached for comment. According to his wife he had gone down to the basement to beat a tied-up Jeremy Giambi and wouldn't be available until Friday morning.

He's one guy of a 5 man rotation and the A's have a stacked pitching staff.

Rays blew another 9-inning shutout last night, losing in the 10th 1-0. But they bounced back this afternoon with a 5-3 win, and Fernando Rodney's 39th save.

13 of our last 16, things are going the right way. At least a full game lead on Baltimore for the wild card depending on what they do against Texas tonight. And still only 3.5 back of the Yankees for the division (Go White Sox tonight! :p )

For what seemed like such a long stretch of anemic offense and below .500 baseball, they have really woken up and are right in the thick of it.

Go Rays!

Sorry, I meant about Colon's season.

This sums up how I feel about the fat cheater:

Dear Bartolo Colon,

Screw you. Thanks a lot for ruining a great story for the A's and for ruining a great story with your own career at the same time. People wanted to root for you; we all loved you. It seemed like a fairy tale ending at the twilight of your career in this great game of baseball; that you would resurrect your pitching prowess and lead the A's to the playoffs over their bitter rivals, your former team. You were part of a rotation that was rivaling the Angels and the Rays; a team that is going places, and now obviously continuing on without you.

You know what you did, though? You tainted the A's magical 2012 season by being a cheat. You took a rotation spot away from a player who certainly deserved it more. You put negative attention on a team who has already struggled so much in the middle of a rebuild, and the uncertainty of a stadium move. You have lumped the A's with the cross-rival Giants and made us just like them. More immediately, you have screwed the A's for tomorrow; in what is one of the biggest series of the entire season. You have reduced us to starting Tyson Ross in a season where we can, and have, done better. I hope you watch the game tomorrow and realize that you are responsible for every single run that the Rays score. Actually, I hope you watch all of the games, the rest of the season, because the A's are playing to win even without you.

It's a good thing you're replaceable. Starting pitching for the A's is the one thing we have in spades, and Tommy Milone, Dan Straily, Brett Anderson, Brandon McCarthy and Jarrod Parker will take over for the stretch run. Which you will miss out on. I hope you realize that you traded the option of ending your career with a blaze of playoff glory on an underdog team for the shame and taint of being labeled a cheat forever. I sure hope it was worth it.

And now I'm moving on; the A's are moving on, and everyone will be behind Tyson Ross 100% tomorrow, because he isn't a cheat. And hell, if we're going to call ourselves underdogs, we might as well be actual underdogs and that pitching match-up certainly qualifies.

And for any other players out there on my team or on any other team who are in the same boat: Stop. F***ing. Cheating.

I'm forgetting you already,

baseballgirl

Well, when facing Tommy Hunter and Kevin Gregg on the mound you're pretty much assured a win.

For the next three games Stele is my enemy and i wish immense pain upon his rays.

I just want them to lose more so the Yanks can start relaxing. This ChiSox series is bleh!

*throws down an imaginary internet gauntlet*

Agreed. But in 4 days we will be friends again, cheering against the Yankees and Red Sox, united in hatred. :p

Im in cleveland and im going to the cleveland/ yankees game tomorrow. Ill be doing my part by rooting fir the yanks to lose.

Tonight, let's go Rays!

Boo Rays! Let's Go Oak-land!

No one is there tonight.

I keep hearing these anguished screams every time the Rays score a run (5 so far this inning). Is that you Ulairi?

you'll get yours.

Phillies are in the tank, so I hope Oakland can make a run of it. Go A's!

Francesa goes off on the Mets. Classic!

The Baseball Gawds punished my Athletics for the heresy of Fatty Colon yesterday but the underdogs will be back on top today. I expect to hear the gnashing of a few teeth.

My cowbell rests at my side at home, ready to ring in the strikeouts and rally the Rays.

Why is the ballpark so empty? It's a Friday night and this is a very important series for both teams. I was hoping it would be full.

Are you seriously unaware of TB's pathetic attendance history?

No one that lives in Florida is from Florida. They are all Yankees or Giants fans from NY, or other various teams. There is very little "home team spirit" around these parts for the Rays or the Bucs.

I just happened to grow up in a state with no baseball team (KY), and so have adopted the Rays while living here. But most of the transplants around here are die hard loyal to their home team and only go see the Rays to cheer on the visitors.

It's quite annoying to go to Yankees and Red Sox games in particular.

I'm an A's fan. When the Red Sox or Yankees are in town we see more of their fans than of our fans.

Dammit.

This was a really good game. The A's had to pay their penance for the cheaters sins but the Baseball gawds are forgiving.

Looks like the Red Sox just traded away half their roster to the Dodgers. Wow.

At first I was shocked at the idea all those guys could clear waivers, but I guess they're owed so much money that other GMs don't want to bite. Craziness.

I suspect it's going to be an interesting couple days of sports radio up here in Mass. I don't care about the Red Sox, but I love hearing how angry dudes get up here about 'em.

Rats at 1 today but I'm at sea world. Will track on my phone if I can.
