Hero Academy Catch-All

Alright, so I'm learning too -- and I'm 5-0 (admittedly two are against my wife).

Soon to be 5-1.

TF2 team is so fun right now. I feel bad picking them for every invite I get but it's so refreshing to play a new team.

In general I think the Steam version has revitalized my love for this game.

I've been doing the same so I can start to get a feel for them. At least it's not The Tribe.

Any of you new guys feel free to send a game challenge to Liquidmantis.

I actually hate playing as The Tribe now. I always chose random for my games and it picked The Tribe for like 10 games in a row. Would rather be Dark Elves or The Citadel right now.

Unrelated note, I accidently declined your invite and sent you a new one.

Likely. I should have taken a screenshot. You should see this jerk. Something like 13 units on the board at once. It was a wizard field day! Until he killed my wizards.

I have exclusively played Council up until this TF2 release. Pretty weird learning a new team, especially since they seem so much more complicated than the others.

Wow this plays super smooth on my PC. I think I'll probably end up playing more on the iPad because notifications, but I could seriously get used to the desktop client. Also, it retroactively awarded some achievements which was cool.

EDIT: So apparently, you can't pick the TF2 team on iOS. Interesting. I wonder if we're going to get a robot team when the Android version launches?

And the game crashes three times? Bad form Robot

I can pick the TF2 team on iOS. I just tested it, too.

Weird, maybe I need to shutdown the app first?

You're not alone. I had to start all my TF2 games on the PC first, then resume on iOS. I can't find a way to pick them from my phone.

I remember reading that you had to not just restart the app, but log out from within the game, then close the App, then restart the App, and log back in. Probably wouldn't hurt to do a full power down in there as well, just incase.

I am still to activate my TF2 awesomeness, because I am currently being inundated with Freelance work.

I am in no way complaining universe (so don't stop it, now it's actually happening). I would rather be busy, than poor and hungry, but still, I am getting a might fidgety.

It prompted me to relog today before I signed in, and now I can pick TF2 from my phone.

Wait, is it possible to tie?

In theory. If you have your last unit kill a shielded Tribe unit (thorns aura) with low enough health you could cause a tie.

I believe the lowest health you can get to from attacking a shielded unit is something like 10%, no dying from attacking a shielded unit.

Omaha - My tip to you, start up something like 20 games with randoms and get them out of the way as soon as possible. Call it the "earning Flush" where you will possibly lose many of them (but you won't care much, as you don't know them), but you'll probably get 3-4 other newbies that you've got a good chance of beating. You'll also be learning so fast that you'll gain enough familiarity with your army of choice as to be pretty competitive after that.

I'm pretty sure I've spent more time playing Hero Academy at work today than I have spent actually doing work...

Dumb question.. the iOS and Steam versions completely separate? If I want all teams on both platforms do I effectively have to buy the game twice? I've heard enough about this game but never pulled the trigger... and the trigger finger is getting mighty itchy... just not sure if I need to choose what platform.

Nope, the app is effectively a client to your Hero Academy account. You can switch between iOS and Steam at will, accessing your in progress games.

Only need to buy it once. Your profile + games are stored on Robot's servers. iOS version is free (ad-supported until you make an in-app purchase) and comes with the Council faction. Steam version is $4.99 with no-ads, the Council and TF2 teams, a TF2 hat (Council), and a selection of additional profile avatars (on iOS you buy these separately of the factions) based on the Council and TF2 teams.

If you want a selection of avatars to customize your account the Steam pricing model is superior and you'll save a couple bucks that way. If you just want teams then iOS is the better option (although you'll need to drop $4.99 on the Steam version if you want TF2).

From my 30 minutes with the Steam version, the only thing I couldn't find are the "Elite" faction avatars that cost a couple of bucks in the iOS store.

If you change your avatar they will be listed. When you click on one of the elite ones it will bring up a page in the Steam store.

BTW, Carlbear95, TF2 is worth the $5.

this will absolutely crush my productivity at work if/when they release a Android app.

I figure that will revolutionize my toilet stall time.

I always find the reception in the toilets a little crappy and it makes it hard to play online games.

Also, anyone JohnVanJim? I got challenged by them and not sure if it's one of you guys or some random pubber. Either way all good.

He's a GWJer.

OK cool, so I'll lose then! I always seem to lose to gwjers. So yeah, friend me up for an easy win fellas!

Wow. I should not play with this much bourbon in me.

Well, I guess from my point of view. I think a few of my opponents are appreciating it.

Having fun so far, have about 8 games running, yet to complete one. I need to force myself away when I have a couple of games active and other stuff to do.

One question, does the TF2 scout have any use beyond stomping? Doesn't seem to be worth the space in the deck.

Stomping and standing on the pink tiles that increase crystal damage. I've found both of these to be incredibly useful. They're also bait/fodder which can be useful.

They're also great on the Train map when someone gets left on the rail because your opponent doesn't think you can make it to the activation station

Also, Turn 1 crystal rush as I found in one of my matches. They have enough HP on them that basically forces the opponent to spend a turn deploying a unit, killing it and then stomping so it can't keep bashing. Jerks.

The other saving grace of the scout is that it's free to deploy. Getting another body on the field can be great at times, even as just a temporary meat shield.

I just figured out today that you can double boost a single unit with 2 medics. It's pretty crazy damage if you can manage to set it up.

Yes it is, especially when the boosted unit is a demoman. *hateglare*
