Because Legion can't be bothered, I will shoulder the soft boiled yolk of the NFL threads.
Here be the preseason thread.
Discuss.

I'll just leave this here.

Ah, pre-season. If you miss the first quarter, don't bother watching.

Hee hee! The more I learn about football the more I enjoy the preseason. I DVR all the Packer games and rewatch them. I'll often watch the same play over and over if something interesting happened. It's fun watching the young guys on the bottom of the roster vie for a spot in the regular season lineup.

I'm always excited for the preseason. Then I watch the games, and all I do is complain about lousy play and hope that people don't get injured. But hey, this year we've got incompetent officiating as well, so that's a huge plus.

If you are actually interested in who makes the team and postion battles, there is still interesting things to watch as the starters leave. But you aren't watching two teams play as much as a bunch of players competing for playing time.

But right now, I'm pretty happy with the direction the Chiefs seem to be headed. I am hoping they lay a good thumping on the Rams for the Governor's Cup this week.

Wait, was I supposed to spoiler tag that for The Walking Dead?

You got one for people who like to say "tow the line"?

Preseason is kind of a tease, no doubt. Houston's D shut Cam Newton the hell down; meanwhile Schaub managed to throw an INT during his very limited minutes and Foster fumbled on his first run of the game. I thought it was interesting that Tate took all the carries in the first series.

Texas Aggie Randy Bullock nailed a 52-yard FG with gusto, so that was cool. I guess his leg and the D (aka the Bulls on Parade) might have to carry us.

Very interested in watching the Dolphins as well, who at the moment have Aggies at QB, WR, and FB.

Colts to win the Super Bowl over the Rams.

Like this?

I hope Fed did that on purpose. If not, then it's even more funny.

Since I requested a link correcting people who say "tow the line", how could you take it any other way?

It was nice to see receivers actually catch the ball when Blaine Gabbert threw to them. And it was nice to see Gabbert on target on routine throws. Nice fade TD to Cecil Shorts.

The team still has a big issue at RT if Cameron Bradfield can't take a step forward. He was too Whimper-esque against the Giants. Eben Britton has moved to guard.

Oh man, I can't read. Yesterday and today I think my reading comprehension's been on par with my two year old niece.

We'll try to bare with you.

Spoiler:

Yes, this one's wrong on purpose as well. ;)

Back to the topic: For all intensive purposes, preseason games are glorified tryouts.

Spoiler:

I did it again!

Interested to see how "Hard Knocks" handles the whole Chad Johnson thing. Not sure if they cut him in person.

As a Bears fan, concerning news today that Urlacher had his knee scoped this morning. Sounds like he could be ready for week 1, but personally since it's just the Colts I'd prefer he sit it out. Have to turn around and play Green Bay five days later at Lambeau. I really do not like these Thursday night games.

It IS the preseason.

Piffle. This is the year we get a Harbowl.

I think both those teams have a better shot this year than the Dolphins, frankly.

I love having games to watch on Thursdays; they should only schedule them after bye weeks for the teams involved, though.

I didn't even think of the Dolphins, which show how relevant they are.

I don't think either team has a QB good enough to make that happen. Still dumbfounded that Manning didn't go to SF. They would have been beastly.

Probably didn't have the money or weren't willing to give the money to get him.

Denver has a really solid o-line, and that had to have helped recruit him. Demarius Thomas and Eric Decker have some promise as WRs if they have a real QB, they've had a decent running game, and there's talent on the defense. Denver seems like a pretty logical pick. I guess I'm not really buying SF as a place for long-term success at this point; lots of teams have really good years, then vanish the next year, and the 2011 49ers have about 15 years' worth of incompetence to overcome before I really start believing them as "real".

He didn't want to play with Moss and Crabtree.

Thought we covered this 2 threads ago? Peyton wants to be coach wherever he goes like he got to be in Indy. That couldn't happen in SF since they have a great coach now.

Also he didn't want to be in the NFC so he can have a Manning Super Bowl.

You've got the Dolphins on the brain too, right?

Speaking of the Dolphins, anyone been watching Hard Knocks? The first two episodes sure don't give me a good impression of Philbin as a head coach. I did like his "two way" practice method, but he seems to be kind of a softy. You can definitly be a player's coach and still have that authoritative feel (Lovie Smith, Tony Dungy), but I feel like Philbin is kind of a push over.

I still don't know why any team would agree to do that show. I'm glad they do, though... Good TV.

I've had the opposite opinion. Not that I think he's Ditka-esque, but he doesn't seem very compromising. He just works in more of a low key fashion and doesn't need to scream.
He has Assistants for that.

Spoiler:

It's in the newest episode. One on one with cameras rolling. It's almost uncomfortable to watch. You probably witnessed the end of his career.

Given that he just missed an entire season, I'd wager it was more that they didn't want to gamble on him not being able to play.

As for QBs, the phrase 'good enough' certainly comes to mind. It's not like Trent Dilfer was a phenom when the Ravens won SB XXXV.
