Rocksmith Catch All

Bought a bass this week, so I'm all set for Tuesday.

I'm hoping there may be a few new bass-focused DLC tracks that drop as well. At minimum, I imagine there will be new hidden tracks that get unlocked with the bass campaign, just as there were for the guitar.

Now this is what I wanted to see.

I have chosen a bass and will be buying it this weekend.

My bass sits here sad and lonely.

Perhaps you can entertain it with these:

It just wants to be slapped and popped. Is that too much to ask?

The weapon of choice has been purchased. Since I have tiny little munchkin hands I went with a short scale (Gretsch G2202). Now that I have a bass, I am just waiting for the announcement that the update has been delayed.

TOMORROW!

While I own several guitars it's my 2 Bass Guitars I really want to play this with, excited that it comes true tomorrow.

I already picked up a second cable so I can play with friends too.

Actually maybe one of you bass-knowing folks can clear something up for me? As I mentioned I got a short scale because my hands are embarrassingly dainty and small. If/when I replace the strings, do I need to find special strings for it?

Best to ask an expert on this, but my guess is no. The truss rod should be tuned to take the tension into account.

Scale has no bearing on what strings to use. You'd just want to use the same gauge so that your neck adjustments and intonation (as well as nut slotting) stay the same.

Nut slotting. Hehehe.
I've messed around with the strings on my guitar enough to be pretty familiar with intonation and such.
I'll Ask the Experts (and by that, I mean not Guitar Center) when the time arises.

Hmm, wonder if that means that the new bundle will be out sooner than their mid-October date?

Some people on the forum were saying that they were getting the update on the 360. I just tried AND I'M DOWNLOADING NOW Female DoggoES!!

So far it hasn't prompted me for money either.

[Edit] Okay, looks like forum reports are saying the same thing, they didn't get charged but the bass stuff isn't working, it just gets to 100% and doesn't work. The patch that adds the bass option works so the speed setting is live in riff repeater. I just finished my workout and I'm going to jump in the shower but I'll spend a few minutes checking it out after.

Well, once again this is not an overwhelming update. The UI is still an obstacle more than something that gets out of the way and enables you. Cycling through songs is faster, but I REALLY wish they'd just let you cycle through letters with the shoulder buttons rather than the hold-and-hope-you-stop-in-time method.

But, I can now set speed in accelerator and not have it boost it until I tell it I'm ready. I can play through a section at 100% and IT DOESN'T KICK ME OUT. Now you just get the tape rewind effect and it starts the section over. There's no "attaboy" text either, but whatever. You get a "Try Again" if you didn't ace it. Overall it's a crude too;, but now it's a tool that provides the necessary features to really work on mastering songs.

[Edit] Patch notes:

1. A major reason for the patch is to allow Rocksmith to support the Bass Expansion DLC.
Before purchasing the Bass Expansion, players will already be able to see a hint of this compatibility when they first load the game and are asked to choose guitar or bass.

2. Revised In-Game Store
More listings visible at once
More information available
Song Length
Release Date
At a glance, readable icons for commonly repeated information.
Icons for the arrangements available
Icons to indicate an offer includes a new authentic tone
Icons to indicate a song is also part of a pack
Featured items are now displayed in the relevant categories
Instead of a Featured Item section, Featured items will appear in blue at the top of Song list, Pack list, or Gear list.

3. Save Data refactoring
We’ve revised the way Save Data is written in order to reduce the amount of memory used by the title.
As such, there is a message upon loading previous version Save Data stating that it will be updated, and incompatible with previous versions.

4. The user can now scroll through the list of Songs faster.
When holding the right or left direction, the song list will at first scroll quickly through songs and then start skipping by letter.
It is possible to get to the end of the set list in a few seconds.

5. We’ve added a new feature in Riff Repeater – Accelerator called “Set Speed.”
Set Speed allows players to set the speed at which the selected phrase will play back.
Riff Repeater will remain at the selected speed until players choose to change the speed again or until they choose Resume Acceleration.
If a player chooses Resume Acceleration, each time they play all of the notes in a phrase correctly, Rocksmith will speed up the phrase slightly.
Players can also choose Set Mastery in Accelerator. This means Accelerator is now the ideal place to practice a phrase, speed it up, slow it down; increase and decrease the difficulty at will.

6. On both platforms we were able to identify an issue in the way we were loading DLC songs in to memory.
Due to differences in hardware, this caused instability for many players on PS3.
With enough DLC songs, it would also have been a problem on 360 as well.
We’ve changed the way we are loading DLC songs into memory so they now take up a fraction of the space and should no longer cause instability on either platform.

7. Note Detection adjusted to correctly match Display Lag Calibration settings
Previously, if a player set the Display Lag to 300 milliseconds, detection would actually miss correctly played notes.

8. Fixed a bug in which repeated high scores followed by lower scores could overwrite the Highest Score with a lower score.

9. General improvements to the accuracy and performance of note detection.

10. General improvements to memory usage. This has led to significant improvements in the stability of the game on both platforms, not just related to DLC.

11. Improved audio response time on Xbox 360 version.

I will say that I thought I noticed 11 during my testing before knowing it was a patch note item. I had my setup dialed in using analog audio and disabling DSP processing on my AVR, but when I fired it up today I actually thought it felt tighter. It's like the difference between going through a quality audio input device with low latency versus playing into the front of an amp.

I got the patch, but as of leaving for work PSN didn't have the Bass expansion actually available.
I'll drop by home at lunch to see if it's up... I'd really like to be able to jump in as soon as I get home today.

I'M PLAYIN MAH BASS!

I just realized I might finally unlock SSB without getting screwed by MM encores. Time to do a bass event!

Jealous!

I purchased and downloaded the expansion this morning, but I won't have a chance to play until later this evening. Would love some quick impressions, LiquidMantis.

Tonight's the night. Tonight's the night. Tonight's the night. Tonight's the night. Tonight's the night. Tonight's the night...

OW, MY HANDS! Well, it works! You don't have to unlock the songs again so I finally finished up unlocking songs. I haven't dived into the techniques yet but playing through the songs is awesome. I really need to work on being more consistent with my "yellow pages" alternating finger picking technique. It's a little sloppy and it's going to kill me when I get to fast sections. I need to give my hands a break so no snappin' and poppin' for me yet. Like I mentioned above though the game does feel tighter now, even though I didn't have lag complaints.

One tiny pointer, when you tune up for a song it tells you if it's recommended to play picked or fingered.

Oh, one fairly major con: I'm currently looking around trying to figure out where a 4x10 cab and head could go.

If I have no interest in playing bass, is it safe to skip this DLC?

The DLC is solely bass. The patch adds the new features (and access to the bass DLC) so if you aren't going to play bass you'd get nothing whatsoever for your $30, not even any songs.

Okay. Good to know. Thanks, LM.

I am bummed that PSN doesn't update until late. I am generally quite pleased with my PS3, but in the age of instant gratification, having to wait for anything kinda sucks.

All I needed was a little motivation to get over the hump.
I completely wiped my save game and started over with Where is My Mind, the first bass song.
The new riff repeater function was huge in nailing that short solo part in the guitar, and FINALLY unlocking master mode.

Master Mode Bass - 195,060
Master Mode Guitar - 209,547 (98% accuracy!!!)

What a great feeling.
My intent going forward is to focus on one song at a time. Some songs will of course be harder on guitar versus bass and possibly vice versa, but I'm going to stick to that goal as much as possible... kind of like language immersion learning.

Is there a way for 2 people to play at the same time? I bet I can convince my brother to play Bass while I juice out some mad tasty riffs

Yeah, you just need two cables. It works well, you each play your own level and everything.

So I'm up to level 5 on bass and it feels like I've got a blister just waiting to come up on my fretting index finger. My right hand isn't in much better shape thanks to all the finger plucking.

Does it work by having someone else log into their account and everything? This will be great for when I have friends over to play.
