Allegaeon's new album is pretty awesome. I think they've written some really cool songs, musically. The vocals didn't seem to take the same step up, but I'm okay with that. I like the guy's voice as it isn't too low and growly so even if he isn't the most interesting piece to the band, he's not annoying me.

Crossposting this, I like a diverse set of genres but metal is the foundation.

Now that I live closer to a large market where lots more bands come to play, and now that I have a job again, I am looking to go to as many concerts as humanly possible.

Does anyone have a site they use that tracks upcoming concerts by genre/venue/dates etc.? It gets tedious having to just go through my playlist and check each band's website for tour dates. Events slip through the cracks that way.

garion - I haven't gotten the new album yet (I know, I know), but with the first album I felt like the choruses would be much, much improved if they just did some overdubs. Or have more members of the band sing on them. It seems like they're all just the same single vocal track as the verses. That might be punk as hell or whatever, but sonically it doesn't do anything to kick things up a notch.

I thought about tweeting that to them, but some people are pretty turned off by advice about their art.

Well put. I agree.

I tend to check venue sites more than band websites. It's still tedious but it's a little easier. Some regions will have their own show lists sites like http://showlistaustin.com/ but I don't know of any for the Boston area off hand.

Some more black metal

I don't know about you guys, but I found this hilarious.

Hilarious? Nah. Awesome!

Haha! Japan is awesome!

According to the description their album is going to be on sale on iTunes next week, and unless I read the URL wrong it looks like it'll be available in the US.

Sadly, not on Amazon MP3. Either way, that song has gotten stuck in my head now, so it WILL be added to my collection somehow.

Their other videos are pretty damn funny, too, but not as catchy (to me at least). It seems the three girls perform with different bands for each song? There's not a lot of info available in English that I could find.

Dunno, seems like they're some sort of metal based girl group, so having different people in the "band" playing the instruments makes sense.

Abiotic - a new technical death metal band from Florida with an awesome bassist, as heard on this first video at least.

I dig their music. Once again, no interest in the vocals.

What's up with their drummer seemingly having no life in the vid?

There's an Epica concert in Philly on October 25th I'm planning on going to, with one of the opening bands being Alestorm. They seem like they'd be fun live music, though I don't own any albums from either group.

The downside is there are three screamy growly bands to cut through first. Ugh.

You don't want to see a band called Destiny Potato?!!??!?!?!?!11?

I couldn't find a whole song of theirs online that wasn't sh*tty live quality. They seem a weird mix of clean female vocals and a female screaming.

Anyone listen to the new Baroness? I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

I feel that bands like Abiotic combine a group of very talented musicians who have the amazing blind spot of letting just any random asshole sing for them.

This phenomenon is not at all unique to metal, of course.

Whoa, more Battlecross, awesome! Gumby's such a scrawny bad ass

So I decided to grab Helloween's 7 Sinners album off of Amazon MP3 for $5 today, and it turns out someone stuck a little Jethro Tull in my power metal.

Must say, I'm pleased with the five bucks spent.

I was saddened to hear that Baroness was in a tour bus accident.

The band members of Baroness and their crew are recovering from injuries sustained after their tour bus crashed outside of Bath, England early on Wednesday morning.

John Baizley has broken his left arm and left leg. Allen Blickle and Matt Maggioni each suffered fractured vertebrae. All three remain in the hospital as of this writing. Pete Adams has been treated and released from the hospital.

Oh man, I heard about the accident but didn't hear specific injuries. I knew Allen in college...really bummed to hear this.

I've never heard a Helloween song I didn't like, but I've also never once gone out of my way to listen to them. Maybe that should change.

Was listening to this today, thought someone else might enjoy also:

I don't know what to think that my first thought was "I hope there wasn't another Cliff Burton". However, still sounds like the band's current future is iffy.

That's sh*tty when it happens to anyone, let alone members of a band. But hey, even if the injuries are severe, Dave Mustain was supposed to never be able to play guitar again, and now he's better (at playing) than he was before his hand broke.

[/i]I'm in a good ol' fashioned Thrash mood lately.. cannot stop listening to Exodus.

Blind Evil, I hadn't heard much Helloween before, truth told. I heard a couple covers of their songs, a friend recommended Keeper of the Seven Keys 1 & 2, but this 7 Sinners album is more or less really what I'm digging.

Now here's something interesting. Holy Grail is one of the $5 albums I picked up. I first heard of these guys when they were touring with Blind Guardian the last time Guardian was in the states, but I missed that show. They're not great, but they got some potential.

What makes it amusing, though, is the band is mostly made up of a group I discovered called White Wizzard. Or rather, everyone that left White Wizzard after the first album due to creative differences.

White Wizzard is amusing, but I feel like Holy Grail has more potential. Just needs to get their album sounding a little less monotonous. They got a new line-up now, but I recall hearing that even those guys dropped due to creative differences.

Man, the lead singer of Battlecross looks like some kind of southern hippie.

Or, the separated-at-birth twin of the lead singer from Spin Doctors.

Anyway, kind of enjoyed that song.

Sorry if this has been posted
Finnish band

I'm a fan of Dave (keyboardist/vocals) and his website Boy in a Band. Below is his band You and What Army and one of their songs. It's somewhat overproduced (since Dave's the producer and is super into glitching and EDM) and fits a more mainstream taste, but I rather enjoy it.

And for sh*ts and giggles:
