Playstation 4 Games Catch-All

Played through the first album on the PS3 last night and yeah, it's pretty awesome. Checkpoints have been nicely placed so far and you restart immediately so there's little frustration. Love the various art and music styles. There's just something very charming and addicting about the whole experience.

Toyed with the level editor a bit and it seems pretty powerful. Unfortunately like many games it makes you play through the main game to unlock stuff for the level editor. While I kinda get that, I'd rather everything be unlocked from the start. I'm sure there are people who would much prefer to just make levels and never play through the ones that come with the game. I really like how the sounds only carry over one screen I think, so the player moving through the levels acts as the mixer. It's really inventive and I think will allow for some awesome compositions.

Unfortunately I doubt I'll really get into level editing just due to the time required, but this is one game where I actually would like to.

I don't mind the unlocks as they game's pretty easy overall.

Having tried out the PS3 and Vita versions of this game, if I can get use to the back touch stuff on the Vita I think it'll be a lot quicker to build levels with than the PS3 version.

I beat all the main missions in Sound Shapes. The Beck missions were great although #4 of Jim Guthrie's was my favorite. I also did all the beat challenges. They are the easiest and most fun you can have silver trophies I've encountered. I beat the first level's death mode. It is very difficult. Gonna be tough to beat all of those.

It's a must buy game for any gamer in my book.

If they like music, yes.

I always forget that many people don't like music as much as I do.

Can't you upgrade the PS3 hard drive with a regular over the counter hard drive? Although I guess getting the operating system on it would be a problem...

Yes, you can but it's locked saves that are the real problem. Stupid locked saves.

There's no locked saves when you do the full system backup right?

Also no locked saves if you use ps+ online backup.

Liking PSN+ a lot. I let my XBLA Gold elapse but when it was time to re up + I did. The save back up is so nice.

I just put a 1tb drive in ps3 slim about a week ago! It is super easy to do and I now have all my games ever purchased installed!

I did a full backup to an external drive as well as backed up saves via the Ps+ server. All you have to do is log in, then activate the system in the account options and you are good!

If you decide to do this, get a 5400 rpm drive as the faster speeds don't make much difference in the load times d/t how the ps3 uses the hard drive.

I recently had my subscription expire . I re upped but I cannot play any free games I got on my PSP. Has anyone else had this problem?

You might just have to remove the current Game authentication on your PSP's PSN Account Settings and re-add it.

Tried it and didn't work. I tried "downloading" it and then canceling the download after the activation. That worked. Thanks.

Wowza, fantastic news.

New details coming at Gamescon, starting Aug 19th.

Got into the Mercia: Fractured Realms Beta apparently, anyone know any thing about it? Also the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Beta which I'm super excited to see how that works. (Oddly, I no longer have PS+...)

Subscribed for a year for $50 to save $3 off of Sound Shapes. I'm doing it correctly, no? Also realized that Hot Shots Golf 2 just doesn't feel the same due to ps3/display input lag. Sad!

According to my calculations I only have 5.6 GB in installed games (including game utility data and saves), but it only shows 20GB free out of 37GB. No movies or anything installed. About 2GB of pending downloads. Where's all the space going? Trying to clean out the fridge to get Ratchet A41 on there (14 GB, oof) but it keeps saying I don't have enough space.

Something similar happened to me earlier with the inability to download/install, must be a bug. Had to delete a demo to "make room" in my remaining 60GB of space. Wonder if it is only affects non-slims...

Again, I'm pretty sure that you have to have about double the amount of space on your hard drive to download and install a game. You need room for the install file and then the installed game.

Nice, I like Really Big Sky a lot. Bought it twice, actually.

It's still weird that only half of my taken disk space can be accounted for.

So I accidentally added Ratchet and Clank All 4 One to my download queue twice, and then it wouldn't allow me to remove one of the instances. That's some sh*tty ass UX.

When I get home I'll see if it simply overwrites the current file or adds it a second time.

How much does the system lock away for itself? How much space have system updates taken up? Consoles are strange beasts with space. As are phones. "Sweet a 16gb flash drive in my phone! Oh, wait, why can I only use 8gb of it?!?!?"

carrotpanic wrote:

Look through the game data from the XMB; my guess is some games have pretty big installs sitting around on your drive. Clear them out if you don't play them anymore. I know some games install well over a gig of stuff. I used Gamefly for awhile and had to do some serious cleanup a couple of months ago, had tons of big installs from games I rented.

Those are all cleared out. I can only guess that even though 3 gb is unavailable (it says 20/37 available), additional data is being taken up by system updates.

That 3 GB probably isn't the OS. That's probably reserved disk space. You can't actually use the whole 40 GB of the HDD because it needs a little extra space to shift data around. That's way oversimplified because I don't fully remember how it works exactly.

So I think it's bordering on the fact that I can't install a 14 GB game on a 40 GB PS3 hdd, no matter what. That is kind of ridiculous.

That's a bummer, carrotpanic. To be fair to Sony, that model came out way before they had full game downloads, and it wasn't meant for it.

That sucks Must just be on the older models. I was able to install Infamous 2 once I got about 16 GBs free. On plus side (get it?), it doesn't cost much to attach a much larger hard drive if needed.

On another note, finished the first 2 albums of Sound Shapes last night. Super cool stuff overall. Some of the animations in the Jim Guthrie album made me lol. It also reminded me that I need to go back and finish Sworcery sometime.

I'm a little bummed that music only stays for about 2 screens. It makes for some interesting construction and deconstruction of the melody during the levels, but it would be nice if there was an option to just have it all continue to build for an entire level. There could be some really cool progressive stuff like that, specifically with an artist like Deadmau5 in there. That might not even be possible with the way it's designed, just thinking aloud.

The community stuff seems really underwhelming so far, but that's to be expected this early. It seems super easy to build a basic level, but making the multi-screen stuff with complex music layers doesn't seem like an easy concept to grasp. Let's be sure to share whatever standout community levels we come across.

That's a good idea. I'll try and let people know. I created a couple. I don't like them enough to share. Eventually, I'll come up with something good. I'm up to about halfway through the 2nd album doing Death Mode. Death mode is definitely pushing my skill/patience limit. Some of those are freaking tough.
