Tag Spam Threads For GWJ!

Now that we have our sweet new forum tagging system, one thing we can use it for is getting spam threads identified and deleted quickly. If you see a spam post, just tag it with "Spam" and we'll take care of the rest.

Eventually we're have a more automated, crowed sourced way of dealing with spammers, but that will have to keep until the Drupal upgrade.

If we tag a normal thread that's been tagged with spam and label it as spam will the spam tag be removed once the spam post(s) is(are) removed?

Yeah, that works.

It's the awesomeness of the English language, biatch!

Wait...you all don't come here to buy jerseys and shoes?

Wait. What if it is a thread about your favourite Monty Python sketches? What if I wanted to share my recipe for SPAM Fried Rice?

As usual, the mods around here tend to act without thinking.

I propose to avoid confusion that if there is a thread from an unwanted seller you instead tag it as "Spam that is not the delicious canned meat product by Hormel Foods Corporation."

Just a thought, and I didn't want to verify it because I can't delete a tag, but is the filter for undesirable words plugged into the tagging system? Or can I just write "Certs is Awesome" in there with impunity?

Went ahead and tested it and it doesn't appear to filter swear and unlikeable words in the tags. Might want to rectify that - will send a PM to Certis to make sure he's aware of it.

I think you must have some kind of malware installed on your PC that's hijacking your browser.

Or they're secretly an extra on a procedural.

This, sort of. It's not officially "malware". It's something bundled with a piece of software usually a video add-on of some sort. It has quite a few names. It often uses "I Want This", and one thing it's bundled with something is something called Vid-saver.

-In IE, go to Tools (the gear in the upper right corner), then choose Manage add ons. Click on the Toolbars and Extensions in the left side, and look through the list on the right. Disable the "I want this" extension. If you don't see that name, you can remove everything you don't recognize and then add them back one at a time until you see it again.
- In Firefox, Click the orange Firefox button, then choose Add ons, then check the Extensions and Plug Ins lists to see if you see anything that looks like it there and disable them (just like for IE).
-In Google chrome click on the wrench icon in the top right, then choose Tools, then Extensions and go through the same process.

Once you've done that for whatever browser, close all instances of the browser completely. When you open it again, it should be gone.

Then go to your Control Panel and remove/un-install the program "I Want This" (or Vid-Saver). If you don't see anything obvious, look at the stuff installed in the last couple weeks or so and see if you see anything you don't recognize.

Do not bother going to their site to block it. All that does is add another cookie to your computer telling it not to display - it doesn't actually remove the code and if you clear the cookie this stuff will just come back.

That spam musubi is crazy tasty!
