London Olympics 2012

What's with all the groin shots by basketball players? First Argentina and now France.

Whoa whoa Nicolas. What the what? Maybe he's chippy because he's forced to come back to Portland. I would be and I like it here.

So is NBC's online stream just the BBC feed?

There's some awesome British bloke calling the USA-USA volleyball final play-by-play on my PC right now.

Ugh. NBC stream is terrible. Lag and skipping, I missed the final 4 points mostly.

Oh well. Congratulations to Walsh & May, 3-peat.

Robert Harting is my new Olympic hero.

After winning the discus, he ripped his shirt off, did a lap of the stadium in the German flag, jumped the hurdles that were being set up for the Women's 100m an then went on a massive bender that saw him lose a shoe, get robbed and lose his accreditation and sleeping on a train as he couldn't get back into the village.

What a guy.

The odds of a repeat medal in 4 years is so small, might as well go out with a bang.

Probably not that NSFW but linking anyway. It's just one of those fab five NBC bumpers.

She's 18!

Yeah, still gross. I know.

Congrats to our northern neighbors for your bronze women's soccer medal.

And suck it France. :p

Had such a great time at the Olympics, so glad I invested in getting tickets. Was a great experience and one that will live long in the memory. Also Team GB have torn up these Olympics, 3rd in the medal table and by some distance.

Yeah, lovely to see the French bleating about the British cycling team having 'secret wheels', having one of the backroom staff tell his French equivalent that the secret was that they were 'super, super round, as round as can be' and then L'Equipe printing it

Just a shame Victoria Pendleton couldn't have bowed out with a gold medal, the judgement against her smacked a bit of 'look, we're REALLY not favouring the home team', but the Aussie who won was a worthy opponent and caned her in the last race. Any disgraceful judging does, of course, have to go some way to meet that in the ladies soccer match between Canada and the US - the American third goal was an utter farce from start to finish.

I agree, way too old for my tastes.

I don't think you can count that second race with Victoria Pendleton, after the terrible decision by the UCI (no surpises there then), Mears was elbowing her, she had to come out of her line just to stay upright. They should have let it stood, instead they decided to rob us of one of the highlights of the games. Vicky just gave up after that, her post race interview was pretty clear about that.

The wheels thing was great, Chris Hoy's reponse that they were from France was even better. Telling them that they were made in France.

Here is something to think about, if the UCI's track rules about only one person per country per event were applied track and field, there would be no Bolt in London! They are a joke of an organisation at times.

Most likely for Tancredi stomping on Lloyd's head. She ought to be suspended for that. Shame that there's a lot of complaining/whining going on about this. It was a great game to watch. Probably the most dramatic and competitive game of the team sports I've been able to watch.

The FIFA investigation is for "incidents that occurred after the conclusion of the match"—so, the comments made by Herdman, Sinclair, Tancredi et al.

Bonnonon is right about the coverage though, that's the first I heard about the stomp, as I've mostly been reading Canadian coverage plus some BBC and the WSJ. To be fair, one Canadian newspaper covered it with this headline: Yanks whining about Tancredi ‘stomp’. ಠ_ಠ Actually, when I say "newspaper" I mean "Toronto Sun", so disregard.

Can't wait to see the highlights tonight.

Good luck in a few minutes, USA. I don't have a dog in this fight, but let today's continuing theme be "World Cup 2011 Revenges".

I don't know what the hell is going on here, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to sleep for at least a week after seeing this.

Is she strangling that other woman in the water?

Ugh. I'm all for the US women winning soccer, but a terrible blown call by the refs. Obvious handball in the box off a free kick should have given Japan a penalty kick to tie it.

Otherwise the US has been outplaying Japan. Hope Solo had one amazing save she punched into the crossbar, and another save made by a defender that stepped in behind Solo and kicked a shot clear.

Good first half. I feel bad for Japan. Hope the US scores again so they won't point to that missed penalty as deciding the game.

What a goal by Lloyd. 2-0

EDIT: Answer by Japan. A great shot past Solo, kicked off the line by a defender, but not cleared. Then the 2nd shot scores. Wow.

Wow.

Yay we won women's water polo too. Missed it because it was during the 2nd half of the soccer match.

It may only be relevant in Canada, but Damian Warner finished 5th in an event (Decathlon) he only started competing in 2 years ago and has never ranked higher than 18th at world events - 5 points off of 4th. It was fun to watch his matches and him beat many of his personal records.

An article about changing how the medal table is worked out from an American, anybody else see the funny side to this?

Also Gold number 25 for GB, after not picking up a single medal yesterday, we hit back with 3 today, in Taewondo, Boxing (which was the first ever female gold) and horse dancing. Oh dear lord I cannot get enough of this, only problem with it is the amount of times we are having to hear God Save Our Queen, god we have a dull and uninspiring anthem.

Spain basketball held to 20 points by Russia in the first half. 1 point per minute!

Wow. And I thought Spain was supposed to be the real roadblock to USA gold?

Looking like they'll pull it out. Up 60-50 with 4 minutes left. Crazy turnaround.

Kinda bums me out, I like this Russian team.

Oh well. Didn't they say something about Russia not getting a medal since the Soviet Union broke up, or was that just a gold medal?

Either way, good luck to them for bronze over Argentina.

Any medal, yeah.

Argh! What a shame for Team GB in the men's 4x100m. So fast but scuppered by that last changeover. Not helped by Gemili's bad shoulder I guess.

What, there's running? Stupid NBC...

Korea-Japan soccer match is entertaining though.
