The Secret World

I tried soloing normal Polaris last night to get weapon skins and I made it about half way through. I think I need to work on my leechy/healy builds a bit. I was able to just DPS the first two bosses down but the 3rd boss was a challenge for me. I'm pretty sure I can trivialize the 3rd boss with a different build but I've got to unlock the leech passives to make it work so I guess it's finally time to pick up an AR.

I'm going to be farming Polaris (or as much of it as I can farm) for weapon skins over the next week so if anyone wants to tag along they are more than welcome. I would like to try to beat the instance solo or with a duo. I think my wife and I may try to duo it tonite but if anyone wants to come along just send a shout out.

This was a fun idea, I went through this whole instance solo. I'm just wearing quest greens and a couple of blue world drops.

Used this build and about 60/40 DPS/Heal gear:

Awesome Strekos, thanks for the post!

I took a look at your build and it never ceases to amaze me how I can miss abilities that fit right into my build. I'm getting Iron Maiden tonight because that works in perfectly with my solo build!

(Why the icon for Iron Maiden is a Guillotine I don't know, lol)

I'm going to try your build out and see how it works for me. The 60/40 DPS/Heal ratio is good info too because I've found that gear ratios are pretty important. It's amazing how switching one piece of gear can change the fight dynamics so much.

PS: Just finished my third deck last night! Now I have Warlock, Witchhunter, and Puritan decks!

No, thank you for the fun idea!

I didn't really need Turn the Tables until the final boss (Ur-Draug) so you can slot a single target consumer in there to make the earlier bosses go down faster, if you like. Also, if you want maximum HPS you'll want to use Shot of Anima whenever it's off cooldown (~3 builders) instead of building to 5.

Ping me if you see me online (I'm on a lot on my main, Falcata) and maybe we can try to duo Hell Raised

I have 3 days off from work, a life time subscription, and a hankering to play Secret World and chew bubblegum... and I'm all out of gum.

Time to catch up to some of you guys.

[Add-on] No intro movies.

Maybe funcom will eventually add a tick box in the graphics options or allow the -nointro tag to work, but until then there's this add-on.

Johnny, sorry I had to bail on you last night. Hope you had fun.

Yesterday, I was having trouble with a particular side quest in Blue Mountain. Just getting creamed each time, one opponent or two. Then, I got enough skill points to take one more of the recommended skills for Wu (I'm about 2/3 of the way to finishing it) and also added one level to the "healing" side of fist (to match the damage side).

I went through that quest with that one skill change with no issues.

Skills in this game really balance on the knife edge. I swapped out a Blood finishing skill with a high damage Fist skill that uses all my Fist resources. I also use those for healing, so I was afraid that it would gimp me. But instead, it helped me boost my Blood DOTs just enough that I could heal every other time my Fist counter filled and thus put out more damage than my healing each time would have covered. A *very* subtle shift that yielded great results.

I'm starting to wonder exactly how they figured out the decks. There are so many possible combinations, with so many interlocking effects, that I am starting to think that they wrote an evaluation engine to test combos and the decks are what topped out in various categories.

Topped out? Many of the pre-made decks are not particularly good, really.

Decks are horrible actually. There's not a single premade deck that wouldn't be improved 100% by adding in passives from other ability trees.

Even the active abilities don't make a lot of sense to me. They will throw in abilities that set impair or whatnot because the deck is supposed to revolve around "impair" but honestly instead of having 3 abilities that do roughly the same thing most of the decks would be better off throwing in some healing/support type of abilities. Abilities like Martial Discipline or Master of Illusions or whatnot. The powder blue abilities. I often see decks neglect these in favor of giving you 7 attacks.

I also use "turn the tables" in almost every build and you will never find a deck using any of the green ability trees.

Decks are nifty for the outfits. They also encourage players to get some of the very useful higher tier abilities. As far as actually using one goes they are terribly impractical.

The decks aren't horrible, it's just they are conceptual rather than optimal, and definitely not min/maxed for solo PvE.

I run with a modified gunslinger deck and it works quite well. definitely not as powerful as some of the sword/fist/hammer/blood (mix and match) but not bad either.

So I'm on Arcadia as a Dragon.. how do I get in on the Goodjer l334 c1aNz?

Drop your game name in, and someone will probably add ya.

Sounds good, I should be on from 8 EST until 11. I only have the military camp and

Spoiler:

Sasquatch

quests done.

I really, really enjoy this game. Every time I think about the life time sub option though I cannot help but wonder when this game will go F2P. I got burned royally doing this with Champions Online. Life time sub? Sure! Going F2P? Doh!

I grabbed the lifetime sub just to get the peace of mind that I can pop in and play as much or as little as i want. I'm also betting (literally) that when it goes free to play, the lifetime subs will get some perks like a monthly allocation of Funcom bucks or the like.

If they keep rolling out interesting story content, they will keep me happy.

I'm not regretting my decision at all, I can play at a relaxed pace and not focus on one game which I tend to do when paying for a sub and as a bonus I feel like I'm supporting a talented team that wasn't afraid to take risks and make a hardcore (in a good way) mmo.

I rolled the dice as well.

I seem to be having some connection issues right now, so I'll try again a later.

Yeah I haven't seen any premade deck I'd actually use, but I think they are all good at pointing out synergies between weapons. Unfortunately, I think that instruction is largely overlooked.

Downloading now. Yall congregating on a particular server?

From what I could tell it's a single server kind of deal, or at least many servers that you weren't tied to.
Also, it seems to be a straight $15 monthly subscription fee, is that correct Goodjers?

They have cross-server tech in place. so there are a bunch of "home" servers but you can join friends or cabals on any server for teaming.

Right, but the "home" servers matter for...something, right? Can't remember what it is.

Anyway, yeah the game is a standard $15 sub right now.

Yeah, the home servers determine the instance for Fusang Projects, which is the huge PVP map where all 3 factions fight for objectives. You can only join the matches for your home server here. Other then that, you can join anyone in any server for instances, questing and the other pvp maps.

I'm having an odd issue with this game: Abilities too good to not have.

Right now I've got 3 abilities that perform so well I honestly can't justify NOT having them when I'm doing high end content. Every time I try to switch it up I find myself missing these three abilities and I always end up going back to them whenever I am in Transylvania.

The three abilities are:

1. Escalation - Chaos inner ring active. This is a well known "must have" ability and I think it's got to be nerfed soon. It applies debilitate weakness on hit (without needing a passive), hit's for AoE with nice damage, and generates extra hate. There's honestly no need to put another AoE builder on your ability bar. About 99% of my builds these days are something + Chaos because Escalation is just so damned good.

2. Forged in Fire - Hammer 50pt Elite Passive. This passive heals you over time for 40% of your total hitpoints whenever you go under 50% life. It can only occur once every 70 or 90 seconds (can't remember offhand) and it is so powerful. Walking around with 4.5k hitpoints and you add Forged in the mix and suddenly you have over 6k effective hpts without nerfing your attack rating. This ability has not left my bar since the moment I unlocked it.

3. Bloodsport - Outer ring 16pt (I think) Fist passive - ALL hits cause affliction. This is such an easy way to create synergy and buff DPS that the only time it's worth removing is when the enemy resists affliction or procs something nasty off affliction. Even if you don't slot passives for synergy with affliction it's still worth it just for the added DPS.

There are a couple of other passives from AR that I'm beginning to get attached to as well but they aren't in the "must have" category quite yet.

4. Lethality - every time you attack you get a 1% damage buff that can stack up to 10. 10% extra damage? Please!

5. Time to get off work I'll edit this later if I remember but it's a 34pt AR ability that offers a flat 5% damage across the board. I prefer these to the single weapon damage bonus because it works for both weapons and all damage.

I don't know if I'd agree with you on all of those. For one, in Transylvania, I prefer my single target AR builder over Escalation. Most of the end game stuff you don't want to fight in large quantities. The debuff IS nice, but that is all you'd use Escalation for. So, I'd say it's a situational thing.

Bloodsport is another wonderful ability that is probably in about 60% of the builds out there. The thing is, it has a really weak dps. Its utility is applying affliction. So, if you're building off of affliction application: fantastic! But if it's there for dps, there are much more efficient abilities you can use.

I think it all comes down to deck building. It's all situational and conditional.

I do agree with you overall though. There is clearly abilities that are much more useful than others. Hopefully Funcom is keeping track behind the scenes and dumping the ones that nobody is using (either because they are unclear, broken, or just plain useless).

We're on Arcadia.

I have a copy of the game now, even sprung for the popular lifetime subscription. My character is Tannhaus, from what I've picked up from this thread I need someone to invite me to our Templar Cabal.

I only have a few days from the free weekend under my belt, so I have some catching up to do.

I added you to my friends list, I'll send you an invite when I'm in game (drukmo). Anyone else in the cabal can invite too but I don't ever seen any other GWJ Templars online.

and I never see any other Illuminati

I have tried rolling both dragon and Templar to join people but with all that time invested in my main I always go back quickly
