Saints Row The Third Catch-All

My taker was someone who's known me for a good long time, and knows that a mere $13 is small potatoes compared to the inevitable soul-crushing betrayal I shall someday inflict upon him. Someday soon? Who knows? But someday.

(crossposted from the Steam Sale thread) I grabbed a copy of "Saint's Row 3 Franchise Pack" (game plus all of the DLC) during the (brief?) pricing error in the closing hours of the Steam Sale. I figured I'd help out a GWJer who might miss it. Uncharacteristically, it ended up being mispriced for like twelve hours, so now I have this extra copy laying around in my Steam Inventory. It was supposed to be $25, but it was listed for $13.29. Not looking to make a profit; I just want my $13 back. =) If you would like it, please PM me. Thanks!

*shivers*

So I've been playing too much Saint's Row 3 lately. Finished almost everything, still doing some challenges. Great game, would recommend to anyone.

Anyway, I was on my way to dinner last night after playing for about an hour. Sitting at a stop sign I notice an Emu driving past. My brain tells me that I need to destroy the car for a challenge, and I actually pull out behind it. About two seconds later I burst out in a laughing fit.

I know there's a name for that phenomenon, but I can't remember what it is. Transference, perhaps? I've had that with several games already - Tony Hawk in my younger years, for example. I'd be walking down the street and I would constantly scan my environment for good places to grind, ollie or do various other tricks.

The worst I've had (probably because I spent more time in that game than any other) is Just Cause 2. Every time I see a large radio mast, especially if painted red and white, I want to take it out.

Wow, that's pretty much the same with me. I used to work in an industrial area and it's amazing how many of the structures looked the same. Every day I'd go past the big smoke chimneys thinking all I needed was some C4 or a minigun

We've had this conversation way up thread. I know it's not everybody, but there's a group of people who have this issue with DirectX 11.

Everybody can stop rubbing in how great things run for you ;)

Yeah, I have this issue on DirectX11 with a (newish) Nvidia card. About once an hour the framerate will drop to about 1 or 2 fps (perhaps even lower) for about 4 seconds then it'll snap straight back to where it was. I assumed it was some kind of concurrency problem with some other running process (probably the internet)

That's great.

I remember doing this with Guitar Hero II. Any time I heard a song I would try and visualize the notes and would think, "Yeah, this song would be fun to play."

Played a lot of it yesterday, and when driving later that night, I kept looking for floating, translucent green arrows at intersections.

I haven't assassinated any old church ladies with dildobats yet, but I'm not making any promises.

Okay about 11 hours in, still pretty fun. I have bought all the property and businesses around town, I get a lot of money every hour. Trying to go around and clear up some of the various missions around town before moving the main story forward. Those stupid STAG guys.

Also, I thought driving and helocoptering with a M&K were annoying, nothing compares to that VTOL jet, the first mission that you have it I had to try about 5 times because I kept crashing into things.

Change to hover mod will instantly stop the vtol.

I had some fun with this for a while on Sunday. The missions were fun, but I eventually wound up adding new cars to my collection. It started when I realized a person can really pimp out the street sweeper.

Then it was a cement mixer and a police car. Then more.

At least I got a couple of missions done.

SR3 DLC is on sale next week for 360. Mission packs are $3.50 each. Great deal!

I've spent a good chunk of time assassinating targets in a VTOL to the strains of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax and Joe Esposito's You're The Best.

I... I may have to sell the rest of my games.

You really ought to pick up a 360 controller for your PC. Yeah, it's $50, but it's so worth it.

Since when did Batman start killing people? For shame sir. For shame.

Since he started dressing up as a busty redhead and moved to Steelport.

Funny you should mentioned that, I just pulled the plug on a wired version (shade under $30). Between this and Driver SF my old old old Logitech Rumblepad without variable trigger buttons was killing me.

I actually like the wired version better (and it really is excellent). I never sit far enough from my PC to take advantage of wireless, and now I don't need to worry about batteries.

While I don't like feeding my controller batteries, having the option to snake an HDMI cable around the corner to my big screen tv and be able to sit on the couch to play my racing games is well worth the premium for the USB dongle.

Oh, absolutely. I just don't have a setup like that. ...Yet.

Okay after about 15 hours I watched the credits roll, that was a very fun 15 hours but I think I am going to put it down for a bit. It is something I will definitely come back to at some point to mess around on the side missions here and there and probably round up collectibles (the first thing I did with all the money at the end was buy the collectible finder). Just think I am done with it for a bit, I can feel the burn out coming along.

I hooked up my PS3 controller to my PC and that definitely helped with the driving and flying I was doing toward the end of the game, still used the good old M&K for everything else though.

Overall it is probably one of the top games I have played this year, probably top 5 (I have played several games this year). And probably the best open world game I have ever played although I haven't played many it nudges Infamous off the top spot simply for the humor and the fact that I was literally giggling uncontrollably several times during the game. Specifically when Pierce finds the giant purple dildo sword in Kenzie's crib...that one was a bit hard to explain to the wife.

I'm going to come out and say I think some of the side missions are just BAD, the get hit by cars ones and the flaming ATV ones in particular. I have absolutely no fun on the ones of them I played (I did two each). I don't know if I will every 100% the game just because I hate those challenges so much. Mostly I enjoyed the ones that involved shooting the hell out of things like the tank and heli-assault missions.

Once again a big thanks to Bonus Eruptus for hooking me up with this during the Steam Sale, you sir have brought many wonderful memories into my life.

Heh, funny, I'm about 15 hours into it and still haven't beaten chapter 1. I'm just having too much fun whacking old ladies with purple dildos and shooting helicopters out of the sky with my giant purple tank.

+1. I'm 25 hours in and just got to the second chapter.
Wow, I didn't think anyone could say that Insurance Fraud or Trailblazing were bad. the worst thing about IF is trying to find where a lot of traffic is in order to get the multipliers.

Most of my lack of progress is because I am doing side stuff with the occasional foray into a plot mission. To each his own, I guess.

I'm about 33 hours in, I've done about all of the 2nd chapter, nearly all the side missions and gang warfare fights and collected all the collectables. I really enjoyed the trail blazing although it's very, very easy. I didn't really enjoy the Insurance Fraud stuff, the controls just didn't feel fun to me. Not a huge fan of the heli assault missions, the hard ones are close to impossible with the xbox controller but so easy with m+k that they are just boring.

Spoiler:

Trailblazing pro tip: Drive up the side walk killing the pedestrians for extra time, don't bother with the cars so much
