Guild Wars 1 Hall of Monuments Catch-All

A new guild would take a lot of money to deck out, and that could be better spent on things that get HoM points (armor, weapons, mini-pets). I'll be on as Jeron Bloodfist pretty regularly until GW2 comes out, and I'm a newly appointed officer, so I can send invites to people that need them.

That would be awesome Stengah. I made my offer before I realized how expensive a new guild hall is - they're not available through the vendor currently and people are selling the sigils for between 25-40 ectos. Please send Count Matthias an invite when you get a chance.

I'll be home around 6am if no one beats me to it.

Stengah beat me to sending the invite.

Without access to the original GW guild, SBD became our surrogate. The SBD guild hall is pretty much decked out, allowing everyone to focus their resources on HoM points for the three weeks until launch.

My assumption is that most folks will log into GW rarely once GW2 is released.

FWIW - I can now do Black Widow runs with 6 heroes (leaving room for one runee) in about 25-30 minutes. You need to be L16, and Ascended/Weh no Suh/post-Hunted! (able to go to the Underworld).

Toddland wrote:

I might take you up on that. It would complete my next tier.

So... I did get that Glint's build working this morning and can get Cloths of the Brotherhood. I see you already have the rare pet statue point so if all you want is to complete the 10 hero tier, I can give you one. (That would save us coordinating a half an hour in the UW.)

Well I was logged on last night but had no idea who to contact for a guild invite. (Isale Larval)

I've basically concluded that even with 7 hero's EOTN is not doable for me. I get wiped all the time. I did start the Faction campaign and with 4 Monk healers [2 dedicated healers] (I'm an Elementalist/Monk) I'm able to get through the first 2 quests. L20 mobs is much easier to handle than the L24 mobs in EOTN.

I have about 27 skill points currently, and have bought some skills mostly the Elemental Attunement skills. but should I be doing something more with them? I accidentally scrapped my Fire Staff last night so thankfully I have an Earth Staff, so had to switch all my skills to Earth/Water. Still getting used to it.

Devilstick, yeah, the cloth would be great! I'm working through content to get my oppressor weapon, then grinding for a few more.

^^^If anyone wants help with EOTN, I can help out.^^^

With my hero setup I can pretty much faceroll through normal mode.

I'll also add that if you"re using 4 monk healers that's probably overkill, you're likely struggling because you're reducing your damage output by way too much. For even hard mode I mostly stick to just 1 dedicated monk healer, but make sure that most of my other heroes have 1-2 support skills on their bars (usually /Me or /Rt).

Shout out to Merphie and Tyops for a good run in Norn land. I may be up for more impromptu runs this weekend.

BTW, I was thinking about starting an impromptu guild for all the returning players since the original GW guild seems to be dead. It's also an excuse for me to buy the Hunter's Isle I've always wanted.

I had a great (though sadly too brief) time last night with you guys. I'd definitely be interested in giving it another shot, whenever.

emyln, check out PvX wiki for help building heroes into effective teams. I generally use the 7 Hero Support build, but started with a 3 Hero Balanced build and worked up from there.

Generally two healers should be enough - I use three only in rare situations.

I also sent you a guild invite.

That 7 hero build is pretty much the most solid thing you can run these days. It's pretty outrageous the number of tough tough spots that build will get you through. I think it;s pretty much what I run with some slight modifications (my mesmer and rit builds are somewhat different, and I have a few more support skills on my necros).

Yeah, I've had a lot of luck with it and I don't even have two ritualists.

Also, thanks for invite to the guild. Like the guild emblem and Guild Hall is well stocked.

jdzappa wrote:

the rits are a pretty huge part of what makes the build viable for harder hitting areas. If you have the time to pick them up it will be well worth it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm gonna try rolling those Hero's this weekend. But man there's a lot more skills than I think I have. Should I buy the skills using my skill points?

WOW, Ritualist seems to be really powerful, it's on 3 of the heros. And thanks for the guild invite, I'll accept once I login this weekend.

emyln wrote:

It's even better than that. I think on my version of that setup the heroes are N/Rt, N/Rt, Me/Rt, Me/Rt, Rt/x, Rt/x, and Mo/Me... And I run myself as an R/Rt. Ritualist, a really really strong PvE profession. Seriously, the profession has a strong damage line, support line, and decent healing skills.

The easiest way to get the skills is to buy them with your skill points, after a certain point that will cost you essentially 1k per skill, but having a solid build of heroes is well worth it. Keep in mind that those builds probably require skills from all 3 campaigns AND eye of the north. There might be some required substitutions if you are missing some expansions.

I figured I'd throw this out here. If anyone needs a couple of Minipets for their Hall, I have some undedicated duplicates up for grabs. I have the following:

Pigs (gold) x 2
Kirin (purple)
Burning Titan (purple)
Ooze (purple)
Abominaton (white)
Siege Devourer (white)
Heket Warrior (white)
Shard Wolf (white)
Jade Armor (white)

I'd like to help as many people to an additional point as possible, so newer players without any minis, or people just under a threshold (20/30/40/50) get priority. Drop me a PM or catch me in game (Zul Aronos)

I am interested in helping out if you guys still need more experienced players. My ign is Legoland Defender and will try to log on a few times this week. I haven't had a reason to play gw for awhile now and might be fun to get back into for a bit. Also wouldn't mind getting to know some of you guys before gw2 launches. I am currently in a guild but will leave it if someone could send invite.

Always happy to send an invite. You are welcome to join in, but don't have your expectations too high. At peak times, it's generally been 2-4 of us working on HoM points. Occasionally there's an opportunity to help out one of the newer folks, which is kinda fun in its own way.

In case anyone still needs to craft armor or in general buy things - prices generally seem to be on the rise. For example, when I crafted my Luxon armor last month Jade was about 700g each - last night I noticed Jade was up to 1100g each.

Obviously, prices will probably stay inflated until the launch of GW2. While prices *might* come down after the GW2 launch, I suspect we will see supply shortages at the traders. Remember that the traders only stock items sold to them by players, and I suspect many folks that continue to play GW will simply be working on HoM points.

P.S. jdzappa - maybe the thread title should be more generic?

Although most prices are rising, ecto seems to be tanking a bit.

Over on reddit, a lot of GWAMM-types are liquidating their stockpiles in giveaways, so I'm guessing there's a lot of new-rich cashing in those ectos to get materials for HoM stuff.

Durr... what are ectos? Also, is there a HoM group tonight?

Edit: nvm, wiki set me straight on ectos.

A rare crafting material also used as currency.

Any idea if the HoM armor and weapons will be available to those that don't have any points accrued from GW1?

I don't think so, but people will still be able to get HoM points in GW1 (and the associated rewards) after GW2 is out.

I think the HoM items are supposed to be "exclusive" to those that earned HoM points through GW1. I think they are exclusive only in terms of cosmetics however.

This is my understanding of it as well from everything I've read. 2 weeks to the re-emergence of my RSI!

Ok, thanks for the info! I have Prophecies but don't have Factions or the other addons. I won't be able to do much in 2 weeks so I'll just sit tight

If you've beaten the Prophecies campaign, you actually have enough time to run through EOTN. If you're just getting started, then yeah I'd wait it out.

Thought I would put together a guide for folks to follow during these last couple of weeks before the GW2 launch.

DevilStick's Quick and Dirty Guide to Last Minute HoM Points V1.0 (8/13/2012)

"I have always depended on the kindness of strangers"
- Blanche DuBois, A Streetcar Named Desire

This guide leverages the Fellowship and Devotion sections of HoM, ignoring the Resilience and Valor sections due to expense. Following it should allow you to achieve 8-10 points in about 30 hours of play time (10 points includes the rare pet point and gold mini point), depending on speed progressing through primary quest lines. An additional two points can be had by finishing a GW chapter and obtaining a green miniature.

Achieving your goals at this point may depend greatly on the kindness of strangers for runs, free minis (especially gold/green) and the like.

Resources:

Guild Wars Wiki
Price Checking Engine

Step 1: Get some cash by selling your free Zaishen Keys and unopened birthday presents

-Create a PvP only character and talk to Tolkano in the Great Temple of Balthazar. "Register" your account
- Talk to High Priest Zhang, also in the Great temple of Balthazar. He will give you 50 free Tournament Reward Points (once per account).
- Go back to Tolkano and exchange these points for 10 Zaishen Keys.
- Sell these keys either at Kamadan (if you have Nightfall) or there in the Great temple of Balthazar. As of this writing (8/13/2012), the keys seem to go for 5K-6.5K each, so you should be able to get 50K-65K in gold.
- Sell any unopened birthday presents as well. Use the price engine above to get pricing. (You can buy a white mini for less than what you can probably get from the unopened present.)
- Save this gold for buying Cloth of the Brotherhood, a miniature (if you do not have an older account) and runs.

Step 2: Level a character (Ranger or Ranger secondary) and get them to EOTN

- For this quick and dirty guide, a ranger or ranger secondary is suggested so you can level a pet as you go and work towards the Animal Companion statue, but you could substitute a Black Widow spider run later (See Optional Step 10)
- You will probably be at 10-20 hours total play time at this point
- Transferring to EOTN requires a L10 character and access to one of the EOTN entry quests.
- A Prophecies character can hire a runner from as far as Ascalon, or (closer) Yak's Bend to skip a bunch of missions. You still need to be L10 however to access EOTN.

Step 3: Follow the beginning of the EOTN questline until you get to the Hall of Monuments and unlock Gwen and your first Monumental Tapestry piece

- You will probably be at 10-20 hours total play time at this point
- At this point, you will have unlocked three L20 EOTN heroes - Gwen, Vekk and Ogden

Step 4: Continue ONE of the EOTN quest threads until you unlock a fourth EOTN hero and a second Monumental Tapestry piece

- You will probably be at 20-30 hours total play time at this point
- If you have all three GW chapters, you have access to MOX. MOX is accessible once you reach Lion's Arch/Kaineng Center/Kamadan and requires no hero armor upgrade to be added to HoM.
- If you have MOX or plan to go for a Black Widow spider (See Optional Step 10), you can potentially skip Step 4 by buying a second Monumental Tapestry piece from a player, or leveling a second character to L10 and EOTN specifically to get the second piece.

Step 5: Get somebody to run you through the Destruction's Depths mission

- This run takes about 45 minutes
- This will give you access to the Central Transfer Chamber where you can speak to Master Armorer Kor to upgrade the armor of EOTN heroes with a Cloth of the Brotherhood.

Step 6: Buy three or four (see below) Cloth of the Brotherhood

- You need one Cloth for each L20 EOTN hero dedicated at HoM
- You can buy fewer cloth by dedicating an Animal Companion, a rare pet statue (such as the Black Widow - see Step 10) and/or MOX
- Currently the Cloth of the Brotherhood is going for 4K-6K each in units of one - you can probably negotiate a bulk discount

Step 7: Use your first Monumental Tapestry piece to unlock the Fellowship section of your HoM

- Fill it with five statues (see Step 6)
- One should be an Animal Companion statue (gives a HoM point)
- Following Optional Step 10 will allow you to dedicate the Black Widow statue and give you an additional rare pet HoM point

Step 8: Buy an UNDEDICATED miniature from another player

- If you have an old account, you may already have some of these through birthday presents
- A one white miniature will run a few thousand gold (prices may rise between now and GW2 launch)
- A purple miniature gives you no advantage over a white miniature - they count for the same in HoM
- Having at least one gold miniature will give you an additional HoM point, but appear to run 30K-65K
- Having at least one green miniature will give you a second additional HoM point, but appear to run 65K+

Step 9: Use your second Monumental Tapestry piece to unlock the Devotion section of your HoM

- Add at least one miniature (see Step 8)
- Unless you have a lot of gold or an old account, it is probably not worth going for 20 miniatures.
- Remember it's probably better to sell unopened presents and buy minis as needed.

[Optional] Step 10: Get someone to take you into the Underworld to tame the Black Widow spider

- I have seen this run advertised for 25K-30K, but you may have to use trade chat to find someone to do this
- The Black Widow will give the "rare pet" HoM point and unlock two statues in the Fellowship section - both the Black Widow statue and Animal Companion statue
- To go into the Underworld, you character needs to be Ascended, Weh No Suh or past the "Hunted!" quest, and able to get to the Temple of Ages (Prophecies), Zin Ku Corridor (Factions) or Chantry of Secrets (Nightfall)
- You will probably be at 20-40 hours of total play time by the time you are ready to do this run
- Prophecies characters can transfer over to Cantha (Factions) and become Weh No Suh much faster than completing Ascension in Prophecies
- To capture the Black Widow spider, you must be L16 and have the Charm Pet skill equipped WITH NO PET CURRENTLY TAMED
- You can turn in your current pet at the Zaishen Menagerie and get it back later with all or most of its progress intact

[Optional] Step 11: Go back and finish a chapter of GW with you main character, as time permits

- Finishing a chapter will allow you to dedicate a title in HoM and net you an additional HoM point (in the Honor section, which does not require a Monumental Tapestry piece to unlock).
- You can probably finish a chapter after 40-70 hours of total playtime (inclusive of time spent on prior steps)

Quick question... if you don't do the HoM stuff before GW2 launches are they locked forever?

scrub wrote:

Nope

OnRPG: Will monuments earned in Guild Wars after the release of Guild Wars 2 be reflected in the Hall of Monuments, and will they still be added for your GW2 characters at that point?

Eric: Yes, players will definitely be able to play Guild Wars and acquire achievements in the Hall of Monuments that will benefit their Guild Wars 2 characters, even after GW2 is released.
