What old PC game do you want Kickstarted from the grave?

Pages

After helping to fund several of these great 90's PC games return from the dead I was wondering what is next?

What old PC game from say 10,20,30 years ago would you like to see Kickstarted and why?

let me begin....

Covert Action (Microprose) early 90's

Another great Sid game that was kind of overlooked in its day. You could wiretap phones, break into buildings, get into gun fights ect. Recently I read a critique of this game from Sid himself who said his main take away from the game was what he called the "Covert Action Rule". He stated in this game he tried to do too much and should have split this game into 2 seperate games, one action and one spy tech.

Why limit it to PC?

I want a wing commander reboot on the 360. I want it now.

The Myth series. Although I'd want Bungie to do it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few games return from the dead:

-Anything from the Janes Combat Simulation series (specifically AH-64D Longbow)--had a BLAST with those.

-Homeworld

-Space 1889

Ugh...Now I want to play all of these games again

Oh damn, yeah...Toss that one on the pile, too.

...Also, you are now my favorite person. Are you talking old school 256 color Wing Commander or FMV Wing Commander?

I am on board for Wing Commander. Prophey-style, preferably. PC, PS3, 360, and Wii U. Q3 2013.

Freespace, although FS Port and all the mods/TCs it enables does a nice job.

I'd finished playing through FS2 a while before the Unreal Engine4 demo, and having seen the particle systems I want to fly through a nebula with that, ships blowing it around with thrusters, leaving a proper wake. And that's before you get to using it on normal effects like damage, rockets, engines, bits of ship flying around, etc, I want a battle to leave a mess and to fly through it.

I want to play the mission where you first meet a sathanas again, other pilots detecting something huge warping in, and then the whole nebula in front of you starts churning like you're a swimmer in front of a supertanker, a whole region of the nebula starts to glow and a beam hits an allied capital ship, and then four huge beam turret claws break through the mist...

All of the above.

We've had a rebirth of 4x lately, and that's awesome. But one of the things I really miss were some of the old puzzle games. There was one called Pandora's Box that really caught me, and I've never seen anything like it before or since. I would love to see an update, with new puzzles.

Serious answer:
Wing Commander or Tie Fighter.

Joke answer:
Leather Goddesses of Phobos

No One Lives Forever

I'd rather Privateer than Wing Commander.
Also, Twinsen's Odyssey.

Personal opinion: NOLF was good, good in the era it was released in, but not that good.

It's got good parts, but lots of bad parts that would need radical surgery for a contemporary game. As far as the Cate Archer character herself is concerned, and a lot of the setting, UNITY/HARM, I think is spent, and would need a lot of new material to make a new game worth it.

Play the originals, and move on.

Also, the next time I play it the guy selling monkeys is getting a bullet through the skull through no fault of his own.

It's simply my favorite shooter to date.

On the design side NOLF featured a vast array of creative weapons that were tailored to the player's stealth or agro play style (lipstick explosives!). Guns felt great and the various vehicle sequences were a hoot. Also, fantastic level design blended fantastically with locations that were just as varied from Morocco to earth orbit.

On the art side you've got a game that seamlessly blends action, humor and gravity. It's 007 and Austin Powers living in harmony along with a good heaping of Silkwood where Kate Archer learns the perils and victories of being the first female Operative at the budding of the Women's Lib movement of the late-60s.

The writing and acting surrounding all these areas was some of the best I've seen in the industry, in turns both touching and hilarious. Also of note was the unique setting. Why aren't more games set in the swingin' sixties? It was a psychedelic color explosion that felt fully authentic and completely fresh.

EDIT:

Tannerhoused!!

Yeah. Yeeaaaahhhhh.

Elite, just with modern screen resolutions and maybe graphics. Oh, and controller support. No changes to gameplay. But that pair won't be getting back together, I don't think. I wish the M.U.L.E. project had done better. Or had a sane goal.

Internet high-fives to everyone who already mentioned Myth.

I want Tell Tale to redo the old point and click Blade Runner game. That would be as lovely as a turtle, flipped on it's back, baking in the hot sun...

Wing Commander, FreeSpace or in particular, a new Star Control title but only if the Toys for Bob guys were involved in it. Sadly, they're making Skylanders now.

Freespace 2
TIE Fighter
Starflight
Uprising
Missionforce Cyberstorm
Heavy Gear 2

If I had to choose.

I have never been able to find the name of the game, but it was on a 8 inch floppy and the object of the game was to catch people/babies falling out of a building into your life net (you were a fireman). I would like this game to be recreated in all its monochromatic glory; green & black are the only colours needed.

I am sure such a game would not need a big kick starter campaign.

For my real selection it would have to be a recreation of Dune 2000. It could be renamed Dune 2013.

Sounds like the old Nintendo Game and Watch title, Fire.

It's the first Nintendo game I ever owned, and I'd love to nab one for nostalgia's sake, but those things are insanely priced on eBay.

The AD&D Gold Box series. (including the Buck Rogers titles) As well as the Dark Sun games.

Mechcommander series - um just bring it back no need for improvements other than new stories and updated graphics

Privateer for sure - I think modern space sims focus on quantity over quality. I'd rather have 10 planets in an interesting system than 10,000 planets with nothing more than a couple of resource nodes.

Impossible Creatures - the idea is solid it just needs more polish to gel

Warhammer Chaos Gate - perhaps I should just say,"bring back SSI" one of the greatest TBS games. much more fun to me than X-Com

Archon - TPS combat with unit damage persistence; perhaps a randomly generated hex map (with terrain bonuses and penalties) instead of a chess board

Missionforce Cyberstorm - another awesome TBS from the dawn of win95

SimCity 2000 - just bring it back. any new features are overkill and make it too complex. keep the style or maybe make it evolve over eras (stone age to rennaisance to future and everything in between) kinda like Age of Empires where you have to meet certain production criteria to advance to the next age.

and I am going to go out on a limb to stir the pot a little bit and say Diablo - but a game that evolves the first game's systems rather than rewriting them and then again. I want looted and purchased class agnostic spell books, stat caps and preferential weapons for the classes, and short multi-leveled random dungeons.

edit: ooh, star control... someone needs to make a star control/diablo hybrid or a diablo/star control hybrid. (i.e. star control with diablo controls and loot pinata or diablo with star control exploration)

Thanks. Aaron D. If I cannot play my old version in green and black glory maybe I can find anemulator for the "fire" game. Activate waste my afternoon in 10, 9, 8, 7...

Rocket Jockey, with working multi-player. And Stunt Island, redone with gloriously modern graphics.

It may seem random, but The adventures of Robin Hood :

Wouldn't it be great to have an RPG focused on a small geographical area but with incredible depth when it comes to NPCs and choices?

I remember that. There was loads you could miss if you weren't in the right place at the right time. I guess if you were trying to 'do it right' it almost felt like theatre, with you playing the right part doing the right things at the right time.

That's something Warren Spector has wanted to do for a while, just do a city block and simulate as much as you can. Sadly it's one of those things that isn't likely to happen in a big studio game. I guess part of it is that it would probably need to be done as a 'system' game rather than a 'written' game, if that makes sense, to set things up and let the dice fall as they may, rather than setting everything in stone.

The Way of the Samurai games sort of fit that model, as do the Harvest Moon/Rune Factory games. Probably not what you had in mind, though.

The Alternate Reality series, including the never-produced sequels.

Alpha Centauri. I didn't play it until a couple years ago (from GOG), and it holds up rather well, but a HD remake would be sweet.

Castles 1 + 2. Update those graphics, get the bugs out, add in some more varied plots, and bam, I'm good.

You know, another game I just thought of was Legacy of the Ancients. Did anyone else ever play that? It was an open world RPG that had a few different gameplay styles--you had an overhead view for world/city travel, then it would turn into a first person dungeon crawl during the museum/dungeon parts. Then there were mini games you could play to increase stats, or you could gamble to try and make more money. Oh man, I remember being maybe 7 or 8 trying to figure that game out on my dad's Commodore 64 and failing miserably. Then scaring myself from the monsters that would jump out during the dungeon crawl parts.
