Rocksmith Catch All

Dawn of the Chordead: what a great mini-game for practicing chord changes. Unfortunately it's throwing in lots of chords I don't know yet (I'm still very much a beginner) and I'm so slow at figuring out the fingering charts that I can't get past about level 5.

Yup, Chordead is the best of the mini games. Scale runner is decent too, but lacking in depth. The duck games I suppose are helpful in getting used to quick horizontal movement. But DotC has the most direct payoff.

Looks like the bundles for the new version are on sale for $199 at Amazon. This seems like an opportune moment to jump into the Rocksmith ecosystem. Other than cheevos, is there any substantial difference between PS3 and 360 versions?

New version? What's this about?

Looks like there's a version that has bass support - might be a patch for people who already have it, though.

Looks like I have something else to look forward to in October.

Bass support will be DLC, not a patch for existing owners. Rumored to be $29.99. New retail versions, bundles included, will feature both guitar and bass support once it launches in September.

For DLC that's getting bundled in, $30 is pretty steep.

edit - Article here that seems to quote a press release.

Man I am so on this bass DLC...now to pry the XBox away from my kids!

That was my first reaction as well. But I get where the developers are coming from. It's a niche market and the DLC adds bass support for all of the existing tracks, including DLC songs.

Regardless, I'm in. I've put a ridiculous number of hours into Rocksmith and bass support will give me a reason to put in dozens more. In the long run, $29.99 will be well worth it for me. Would be nice of them to throw in a few bonus tracks for original owners, though.

See, I don't. It's more than half what I paid for the game in the first place($50), and they're giving it away to anyone who buys it after October. I'm not likely target audience, but giving it away to late comers is a pretty big slap in the face, considering they're getting for $80 what other folks are having to shell $110 for.

That's like getting mad at a game for releasing a game of the year version a year after release.

There's a world of difference between a game of the year edition that rolls up 4-5x $10 DLC which is months old and handing out brand new $30 DLC free. I bought and paid full price for all DLC to FO3, FO:NV knowing that there would be a GOTY version because it was worth it. This is not that, and trying to compare the two is quite disingenuous.

To further clarify: My issue isn't that they're charging half the price of the game for the DLC, or even that there are plans to roll it into a bundle. My issue is that the bundle version is 30 days behind the DLC releasing. For folks who bought it on sale a while back, it's almost worth trying to wring $20 or so out of your disc now and buying the whole thing again when it hits another sale.

August 14th?

At the end he also says "Rocksmith 1" which might lead one to think that they're working on RS2 in the back office.

That would give me two weeks to buy a bass.

Man, Rocksmith is like what I dreamed of as a kid, so I'm happy throwing them money every now and then, for me it's great that they're even releasing this : )

Hell. Preordered. My birthday's right after the bundle's release date, so I'll call it a present to myself

sh*t. I was eyeing a bass that I've been wanting for six months now that's about half price this month. This may push me over the edge.

The official word has been that bass will come Sept 4th so it's possible he just mispoke and the patch is coming on the 14th, which I'd be happy with as I really need manual speed and no 100%-kickout to get further with the game. I'm REALLY tired of master mode encores when it doesn't give me the tools to memorize songs.

There's this from the facebook page:

Hey guys, no DLC hint today BUT we've got some big, awesome news coming this week so hang tight.

[Edit]

Unfortunately the Bass DLC is no longer coming out Sept 4th ... because we've moved it up to AUGUST 14th!! That's right, bass is coming to Rocksmith along with our newest patch 3 weeks early! Share the good news.

Apparently the bass tracks are playable with a standard electric guitar, although obviously the feel will be a bit different.

I assume with the big bass pack coming on the 14th, there will be no song DLC this Tuesday?

I had been eyeing this since I started my drum lessons, so I was surprised to find this almost half off at my local music store. The first bass I got turned out to be a buzzy nightmare, so a Jazz Standard is more than an acceptable upgrade. Just in time for the Rocksmith bass DLC too!

Nice! I've got a fair Washburn that I picked up during a sale a while back. Hopefully I'll be able to resist the upgrade bug.

I've always kind of wanted to learn bass. I was always disappointed that RB3 let you play the bass track, but on the guitar only. Getting this with a bass is a SERIOUSLY tempting proposition.

Dooo eeet.

Rocksmith definitely isn't perfect but it's definitely gotten me playing more guitar than I have in a long time. I'm excited about next week's patch. It should change from me playing RS as a game to actually using it as a tool to learn songs.

Depending on the quality of the tool updates I might be tempted to wipe my progress and start from scratch. I really need to set my own speed and not get kicked out at %100 level. There are lots of sections of various songs I just kind of plateaued and gave up on for which I desperately need these additions. Starting from a blank slate would help keep me focused on learning one song at a time. I'm skeptical that Ubisoft will come through with something great though as I've seen very little "official" info outside of the bass support, and the last patch (what was that, 6 months ago?) was underwhelming.

I was wondering the same thing. Has there been any official announcement that this big patch does anything beyond adding bass support? I thought that was it.

LiquidMantis posted a tweet a couple pages back that mentions something about locking a set speed in Accelerator. Hardly official, but if this does indeed mean that we can loop sections at a certain speed and level I might have a shot at serious improvement.

Edit: To some extent my interest in paying for bass support rides on the quality of the other components of the patch. If I don't see anything further that will improve my ability to use this as a learning tool I'll be very reluctant to dole out more cash. If it does manage to live up to its potential I can see myself getting a bass soon.

Setting your speed has been assured for some time so no worries about getting that.

My Rocksmith disc broke months ago so I haven't played, but I can still play most songs I learned on it by memory : )

I haven't played in forever either but it is pretty cool how I actually learned how to and remember how to play songs from a game.
